High place

"High place", in English-language versions of the Old Testament, literally translates the Hebrew במה (bamah, plural במות bamot).

This rendering has etymological justification, as appears from the poetical use of the plural in such expressions as to ride, or stalk, or stand on the "high places" of the earth, the sea, the clouds, and from the corresponding usage in Assyrian; but in prose bamah always means "place of worship". It has been surmised that a semantic shift occurred because the places of worship were originally upon hilltops, or because the bamah was an artificial platform or mound, perhaps imitating the natural eminence which was the oldest holy place, but neither view is historically demonstrable. The development of the religious significance of the word took place probably not in Israel but among the Canaanites, from whom the Israelites, in taking possession of the holy places of the land, adopted the name also. In old Israel many towns and villages had their own places of sacrifice, commonly called bamot. It has been suggested that the plural of the word referred to places of sacred prostitution and of pagan worship.

Higher Place

"Higher Place" is a song by Belgian DJ duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike featuring American singer Ne-Yo, who co-wrote the lyrics with Dimitri Thivaios. The single gave the duo their first number one in the United States, where it topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs in its 6 January 2016 issue.

Like Mike is a 2002 American comedy film directed by John Schultz and written by Michael Elliot and Jordan Moffet. It stars Lil' Bow Wow, Morris Chestnut, Jonathan Lipnicki, Brenda Song, Robert Forster, Crispin Glover and Eugene Levy. It was produced by NBA Productions and features many cameo appearances by NBA stars. The film was released on July 3, 2002, by 20th Century Fox.

Plot

Calvin Cambridge is a teenage orphan whose two best friends, Murph and Reg Stevens, are also orphans. At night they have to sell chocolate for a greedy orphanage director, Stan Bittleman, (Crispin Glover) after each home game of the Los Angeles Knights.

Calvin meets the team's coach, who is impressed by Calvin's knowledge of basketball and honesty about the chocolates he sells, and offers Calvin tickets for the next game. The next day, Calvin obtains a pair of old sneakers from a Salvation Army Thrift Store that had reportedly been used by a great basketball player when he was a boy. The shoes have the initials MJ written on them, so Calvin thinks they used to belong to Michael Jordan.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are a Belgian DJ duo composed of brothers Dimitri Thivaios and Michael Thivaios. They currently hold the #1 spot on DJ Magazine's annual Top 100 DJs poll.

Musical career

Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike began to make their first steps as DJ's at the ages of 14/15. In their early years they made several appearances in small clubs and was the resident BeatFM radio DJ. Dimitri then left Flanders in 1999 and began touring Europe. He lived in Mallorca and then in Halkidiki, Greece before moving to Ibiza in 2003, where he was a resident in major clubs such as Privilege and Space.

After living in Mallorca and on the Canary Islands, he settled in Zante, Greece where he was a resident of Amnesia and The End in 2006. In autumn 2006, Dimitri returned to Belgium to work with his brother, Like Mike, and produced their first release "La Cocaina (Eivissa 2007)". His remix of "Work That Body", 2008 caught the attention of Axwell, who entrusted them with a remix of "Rotterdam City of Love" by Abel Ramos for his label Axtone.

High Places

High Places is a band originating from Brooklyn, NY, recently relocated to Los Angeles, CA. The band is a duo comprising multi-instrumentalist Rob Barber and vocalist Mary Pearson.

History

Pearson and Barber met while Mary was completing a music degree in bassoon performance at Western Michigan University and Rob was working in visual art, teaching lithography and etching in New York. Both were performing as solo musicians at the time, Mary as Transformation Surprise, and Rob as the Urxed. The two began collaborating under the name High Places in May 2006, after Mary relocated to New York.

Performance

High Places, has performed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art the New Museum and the Kitchen in New York City. They have performed at the Smithsonian Institution's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden as part of Doug Aitken's SONG 1 (2012) in Washington DC. In Berlin they have performed via Volksbühne and Berghain's main room. With Lucky Dragons they have performed collaboratively in the group's 2008 Whitney Biennial performance, as well as at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and REDCAT. Rob has played drums in the Boredoms' 88 Boadrum Los Angeles LACMA performance, and performed as part of the Doug Aitken-curated Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles 2010 benefit.
