President Park welcomes overseas Koreans on World Korean Day

President Park Geun-hye made an appearance at the gathering for words of support and encouragement on this day designed to instill national pride and create a sense of unity among millions of Koreans spread all across the globe. It's the 10th World Korean Day,... an occasion to celebrate and encourage millions of Koreans living overseas. At the annual gathering, President Park Geun-hye showed her appreciation for the efforts of the more than seven million Koreans who live in countries across the globe... and pledged to help the country realize its potential through reforms and her creative economy drive. "As the global economy has become more closely interconnected, your cooperation can be of great help to our economy. Please join forces to help your home country take a greater leap. In particular, I ask you to share your experience and wisdom and offer more opportunities to our talented young people, so they can compete on the global stage and realize their dreams." Saying that North Korea's obsession with its nuclear program will only lead to its own self-destruction,... President Park said unification will enable overseas Koreans to freely travel across the peninsula and find long-lost family members separated by the war. "The government will continue its efforts to achieve a peaceful unification, while also strengthening national security against North Korean threats. Once North Korea's nuclear threats disappear and the door opens for a peaceful unification, there will be new opportunities for happiness and prosperity, not only for Koreans living on the peninsula, but also for the 7.2 million overseas Koreans and all the countries around the world."
