Here's a very rare and enjoyable 1966 BBC Radio play "Of Mice and Men" By John Steinbeck Starring r Harry Towb as George Milton and Canadian Actor Robert Beatty as his childlike friend Lennie Small.
Of Mice and Men is a novella[1][2] written by Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck. Published in 1937, it tells the story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in search of new job opportunities during the Great Depression in California, United States.
Based on Steinbeck's own experiences as a bindlestiff in the 1920s (before the arrival of the Okies he would vividly describe in The Grapes of Wrath), the title is taken from Robert Burns' poem "To a Mouse", which read: "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft agley." (The best laid schemes of mice and men / Often go awry.)
Required reading in many schools,[3] Of Mice and Men has been a frequent target of censors for vulgarity and what some consider offensive and racist language; consequently, it appears on the American Library Association's list of the Most Challenged Books of 21st Century.

Robert Beatty (19 October 1909 – 3 March 1992) was a Canadian actor who worked in film, television and radio for most of his career and was especially known in the UK.
Harry Towb was one of the finest character actors of his generation, whether Ulster born or not. He appeared on stage on both sides of the Irish border, both sides of the Irish Sea including London's West End, and both sides of the Atlantic, including New York's Broadway. He worked with the National Theatre in London and the Royal Shakespeare Company, amongst many others. One of the hardest working of people, in his long life as an actor he performed numerous roles, by no means all on the stage: he also had a very busy television and film career, having parts in a highly impressive number of films and television programmes ranging from World War I German Air Force intrigues, to police dramas in contemporary England, to benevolent Time Lords traveling the Universe.
Towb (he sometimes styled himself Harris Towb) was born in Larne, County Antrim. While he may have been the only Jewish person ever born there, as once was quipped, certainly he later described his background as "the minority of all minorities", the Jewish community of Northern Ireland. His father was originally from Russia (the name Towb is of German origin, meaning "dove")

The first (and only until 2012's Elementary) American television series of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes adventures aired in syndication in the fall of 1954. The 39 half-hour mostly original stories were produced by Sheldon Reynolds[1] and filmed in France by Guild Films, starring Ronald Howard (son of Leslie Howard) as Holmes and Howard Marion Crawford as Watson. Archie Duncan appeared in many episodes as Inspector Lestrade (and in a few as other characters). Richard Larke, billed as Kenneth Richards, played Sgt. Wilkins in about fifteen episodes. The series' associate producer, Nicole Milinaire, was one of the first women to attain a senior production role in a television series. Sheldon Reynolds had been successful with his 1951 European-made series Foreign Intrigue[1] (in 1956 he directed a movie with the same title starring Robert Mitchum) and decided a Sherlock Holmes series made in France for the American syndication market might also be successful. Reynolds contacted the Doyle family and began his research into producing a Holmesian television series.

Harry Towb
Harry Towb (27 July 1925 – 24 July 2009) was a Northern Irish actor.
Early life and career
Towb's father was Russian Jewish and his mother was Irish. He attended the Finiston School and Technical College, Belfast. He then appeared on stage with a touring theatre company in Ireland, in repertory theatre in England and in London's West End, where he had a role in the musical adaptation of Bar Mitzvah Boy. He also appeared in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at the National Theatre in 2004.
He made numerous appearances on UK television including The Avengers, Callan, Casualty, The Bill, Minder, Doctor Who, Heartbeat and others. His film appearances include Above Us the Waves (1955), The Blue Max (1966), Prudence and the Pill (1968), Patton (1970) and Lamb (1985). In December 2008, Towb appeared in two episodes of the BBC soap opera EastEnders as David, Janine Butcher's fiancee.
Harry Towb was also a regular presenter on the BBC Schools' programme You and Me featuring with Cosmo and Dibs. In the late 1970s, Towb appeared in a series of TV commercials advertising Younger's Tartan Special beer, which were shown on very heavy rotation in Scotland.

John Ernst Steinbeck, Jr. (February 27, 1902 – December 20, 1968) was an American author of twenty-seven books, including sixteen novels, six non-fiction books, and five collections of short stories. He is widely known for the comic novels Tortilla Flat (1935) and Cannery Row (1945), the multi-generation epic East of Eden (1952), and the novellas Of Mice and Men (1937) and The Red Pony (1937). The Pulitzer Prize-winning The Grapes of Wrath (1939), widely attributed to be part of the American literary canon, is considered Steinbeck's masterpiece. In the first 75 years since it was published, it sold 14 million copies.
The winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature, he has been called "a giant of American letters". His works are widely read abroad and many of his works are considered classics of Western literature.
Most of Steinbeck's work is set in southern and central California, particularly in the Salinas Valley and the California Coast Ranges region. His works frequently explored the themes of fate and injustice, especially as applied to downtrodden or everyman protagonists.

Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes (/ˈʃɜːrlɒk ˈhoʊmz/) is a fictional character created by British author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A London-based "consulting detective" whose abilities border on the fantastic, Holmes is known for his astute logical reasoning, his ability to adopt almost any disguise, and his use of forensic science to solve difficult cases. The character first appeared in print in 1887, and was featured in four novels and 56 short stories by Conan Doyle, as well as later works by other authors. The first novel, A Study in Scarlet, appeared in Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1887 and the second, The Sign of the Four, in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine in 1890. The character's popularity grew with the first series of short stories in The Strand Magazine, beginning with "A Scandal in Bohemia" in 1891; additional short-story series and two novels (published in serial form) appeared from then to 1927. The events in the stories take place from about 1880 to 1914.
All but four stories are narrated by Holmes's friend and biographer, Dr. John H. Watson. Two are narrated by Holmes himself ("The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier" and "The Adventure of the Lion's Mane"), and two others are written in the third person ("The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone" and "His Last Bow"). In two stories ("The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual" and "The Adventure of the Gloria Scott"), Holmes tells Watson the story from memory, with Watson narrating the frame story. The first and fourth novels, A Study in Scarlet and The Valley of Fear, include long passages of omniscient narrative of events unknown to either Holmes or Watson.

Robert Beatty (19 October 1909 – 3 March 1992) was a Canadian actor who worked in film, television and radio for most of his career and was especially known in the UK.
Harry Towb was one of the finest character actors of his generation, whether Ulster born or not. He appeared on stage on both sides of the Irish border, both sides of the Irish Sea including London's West End, and both sides of the Atlantic, including New York's Broadway. He worked with the National Theatre in London and the Royal Shakespeare Company, amongst many others. One of the hardest working of people, in his long life as an actor he performed numerous roles, by no means all on the stage: he also had a very busy television and film career, having parts in a highly impressive number of films and television programmes ranging from World War I German Air Force intrigues, to police dramas in contemporary England, to benevolent Time Lords traveling the Universe.
Towb (he sometimes styled himself Harris Towb) was born in Larne, County Antrim. While he may have been the only Jewish person ever born there, as once was quipped, certainly he later described his background as "the minority of all minorities", the Jewish community of Northern Ireland. His father was originally from Russia (the name Towb is of German origin, meaning "dove")
