Who is a County Commissioner and What do They Do?
As far as the position of the County Commissioner is concerned the responsibilities are fairly broad and can involve issues that affect the county from outside the borders. A County Commissioner is a unique position in terms of elected offices within the United States in that their position holds both legislative and executive powers. This doesn't mean they have authority over other elected officers, but it does give the office important powers for getting things done within the county.
We do our best to answer this question, as Chad Booth sits down with Stan Summers, Box Elder County Commissioner; Kent Peatross, Duchesne County Commissioner; Bret Millburn, Davis County Commissioner to find out more about the role that Commissioners play in our daily lives.

"People come to Boulder for a lot of reasons. The climate is unsurpassed. The scenery is unsurpassed. The feeling that you get when you live in this area is such that people come here and they say 'I want to move there, I want to live there.'
And it's more than just the climate which is great, it's more than just the fresh air, it's more than just the scenery...
There is a feeling here that makes you almost euphoric.
Boulder Colorado is a wonderful place to live.
The only thing that we don't have here in Boulder County is good government.
We've been dominated for 21 years by one particular thought process that wants to be restrictive about Boulder County.
My name is Randy Luallin and I'm running for County Commissioner here in Boulder County, District 3.
I've lived here for 40-50 years.
I've been around a long time and I've seen a lot of things happen.
I want you to elect me because I will bring back open government that doesn't operate behind closed doors, that works within the parameters that are set by state statute, that efficiently and effectively spends your hard earned tax dollars.
I want to bring back a government where you don't have to be concerned about whether you can or can not build on your property and where you don't have to be worry about a government trying to make you be like them.
I want you to be free.
We have that opportunity here in Boulder County.

In an effort to bring international attention to Pingtung’s beautiful landscapes and delicious food, County Commissioner Pan Men-an led a team of officials to Tokyo to promote tourism to his part of southern Taiwan. The team not only unveiled a series of ads and pictures featuring various sights in Pingtung, they also offered attendees at the event a chance to sample one of Pingtung’s regional delicacies in a new context.To give high-spending Japanese tourists a better idea of Pingtung’s vast natural landscapes, its delicately engineered Liouli Suspension Bridge, and its many famous dishes, Pingtung County Commissioner Pan Men-an embarked on his first official trip to Tokyo, hoping to boost tourism to the county.Pan Men-anPingtung County CommissionerWe’re saying, ‘Come to Pingtung and understand Pingtung.’ It’s a way of helping us in Pingtung diversify our travel and tourism sector, and securing a niche for us in the Japanese consumer market. Alongside a small exhibition of pictures taken by Japanese tourists while traveling in Pingtung, the tourism promotion team offered those at the event the chance to sample an innovative combination of mullet roe with French bread. It was a hit with those in attendance.County tourism officials specially encouraged Japanese tourists to visit Pingtung in the winter, when they would be able to enjoy plenty of sun, hot springs, beaches, and the special cuisine of southern Taiwan.

County commission
A county commission (also known as a board of county commissioners) is a group of elected officials charged with administering the county government in some states of the United States. County commissions are usually made up of three or more individuals. In some counties in Georgia and New Hampshire however, a sole commissioner holds the authority of the commission.
The commission acts as the executive of the local government, levies local taxes, administers county governmental services such as prisons, courts, public health oversight, property registration, building code enforcement, and public works such as road maintenance. The system has been supplanted in large part as disparate sparsely settled regions become urbanized and establish tighter local governmental control usually in municipalities, but in many more rural states the county commission retains more control and even in some urbanized areas may be responsible for significant government services.
History
William Penn, colonial founder of Pennsylvania is credited with originating the system of County Commissioners in the United States.

As far as the position of the County Commissioner is concerned the responsibilities are fairly broad and can involve issues that affect the county from outside the borders. A County Commissioner is a unique position in terms of elected offices within the United States in that their position holds both legislative and executive powers. This doesn't mean they have authority over other elected officers, but it does give the office important powers for getting things done within the county.
We do our best to answer this question, as Chad Booth sits down with Stan Summers, Box Elder County Commissioner; Kent Peatross, Duchesne County Commissioner; Bret Millburn, Davis County Commissioner to find out more about the role that Commissioners play in our daily lives.
