The Polish Hussars (Polish: Husaria) were the main type of cavalry of Polish Army (and later,the Polish-Lithuanian Army) between the 16th and 18th centuries. When this cavalry type was first introduced by the Serbian mercenary horsemen, they were serving as light cavalry banners (1500), and by the second half of the 16th century hussars had been transformed into heavy cavalry. Until the reforms of 1770s the husaria banners were considered the elite type of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth cavalry.
Husaria półciężka, znana z wielu zwycięstw formacja kawaleryjska Rzeczypospolitej, obecna na polach bitew od XVI, do początku XVIII wieku. Husaria była wykorzystywana do przełamywania sił nieprzyjaciela poprzez zadawanie rozstrzygających uderzeń w postaci szarż które, w okresie jej istnienia kończyły się zazwyczaj zwycięstwami. Ze względu na nietypowe uzbrojenie i taktykę husaria jest zaliczana do najskuteczniejszych formacji wojskowych w dziejach kawalerii.

When at the end of the 17th century the Ottoman Empire had reached its greatest extent, the Turks under Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha tried to capture the imperial city of Vienna and thereby throw open the gateway to Central Europe. In 1683 he laid siege to the fortress with 140,000 troops, while there were only 11,000 men available for the city defense. In the following 60-days lasting siege the Turks built mines below the city walls, which they intended to bring down with explosive charges. These were on the verge of detonating, when on 11 September the Polish-German relief force arrived, with troops from the Holy Roman Empire (Austria, Bavaria, Franconia, Saxony, Swabia) and the Republic of Venice, under the leadership of Poland. The tide of battle was turned on 12 September, when the Polish King John III. Sobieski led his elite troops of the Winged Hussars (Husaria) down the Kahlenberg in the largest cavalry charge in history, battering the Ottoman elite of the Sipahi and Janissaries and entering the enemy camp.

Michael Hussar is an American painter from Southern California born in1964 Born in Long Beach, CA . He was trained at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.Michael Hussar creates original oil paintings. Trained by painters Richard Bunkall, Dwight Harmon, and Judy Crook; and draftsmen Harry Carmeanand Burne Hogarth. Taught Portraiture-Head Painting for almost 10 years at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and continues to teach portrait painting workshops in the United States and Europe. In 2008 Hussar's painting, Hans Memling was featured in the group show In the Land of Retinal Delights: The Juxtapoz Factor that took place at the Laguna Art Museum from June 22 - October 5, 2008. Hussar's oil paintings and drawings are very provocative and often somewhat objectionable because they are intensely realistic. Hussar paints in the old-master style. Hussar
Hussars (singular Hussar, /həˈzɑːr/ hə-ZAR, /hʊˈzɑːr/) refers to a number of types of light cavalry used during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Historically, the term derives from the cavalry of late medieval Hungary, under Matthias Corvinus. The title and distinctive dress of these horsemen were subsequently widely adopted by light cavalry regiments in European and European colonial armies in the late 17th and 18th centuries. A number of armored or ceremonial mounted units in modern armies retain the designation of hussars.
Etymology
The first written mention of the word "Hussarones" (in Latin, plural; in Hungarian: Huszár) has been found in documents dating from 1432 in Southern Hungary (at the time the Ottoman military frontiers of the Hungarian Kingdom). A type of irregular light horsemen was already well-established by the 15th century in medieval Hungary. Etymologists are divided over the derivation of the word 'hussar'.
King Matthias Corvinus established Hussar units from peasants. 20 (in Hungarian husz) peasant households shall equip one Hussar. Hussars already existed before, because there are written documents that mentions a Hussar Captain from 1403. In a letter written by King Matthias Corvinus from 1481 his Black Army of Hungary's light cavalry is called Hussars (Hussarones) („equites levis armaturae, quos hussarones appellamus” in english: „light equipped cavalrymen, whom are called Hussars”). Etymologist found out that the word Hussar originated in Hungarian, and not in Serb.

When at the end of the 17th century the Ottoman Empire had reached its greatest extent, the Turks under Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha tried to capture the imperial city of Vienna and thereby throw open the gateway to Central Europe. In 1683 he laid siege to the fortress with 140,000 troops, while there were only 11,000 men available for the city defense. In the following 60-days lasting siege the Turks built mines below the city walls, which they intended to bring down with explosive charges. These were on the verge of detonating, when on 11 September the Polish-German relief force arrived, with troops from the Holy Roman Empire (Austria, Bavaria, Franconia, Saxony, Swabia) and the Republic of Venice, under the leadership of Poland. Michael Hussar is an American painter from Southern California born in1964 Born in Long Beach, CA . He was trained at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.Michael Hussar creates original oil paintings. Trained by painters Richard Bunkall, Dwight Harmon, and Judy Crook; and draftsmen Harry Carmeanand Burne Hogarth. Taught Portraiture-Head Painting for almost 10 years at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and continues to teach portrait painting workshops in the United States and Europe. In 2008 Hussar's painting, Hans Memling was featured in the group show In the Land of Retinal Delights: The Juxtapoz Factor that took place at the Laguna Art Museum from June 22 - October 5, 2008. Hussar's oil paintings and drawings are very provocative and often somewhat objectionable because they are intensely realistic. Hussar paints in the old-master style. His clients include Kat Von D and Madonna.
