WASHINGTON — The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter will compete against the A-10 Thunderbolt II in missions including close air support, combat search and rescue in order to determine whether the new fighter jet can replace the aging warthog.
"To me, comparison testing just makes common sense," J. Michael Gilmore, the Defense Department's director of operational test and evaluation was quoted as saying by Stars and Stripes. "If you're spending a lot of money to get improved capability, that's the easiest way to demonstrate it is to do a rigorous comparison test."
The F-35, with a wingspan of 36 feet and the top speed of Mach 1.6, has a unit price of $98 million. It has been designated to replace the A-10, a four-decade-old warplane which only costs about a fifth of an F-35. The F-35 costs $67,500 per flight hour while the A-10 only costs $11,500.
The F-35 allows pilots to share data immediately with others and is equipped with advanced stealth and radar-jamming capabilities. Its helmet also gives the pilot a 360-degree view of their surroundings. With its stealth features, the F-35 is designed to destroy its target from long distance instead of engaging in a close distance dogfight.
The A-10 is designed for close air support, so it can fly at low speeds and altitudes. Its GAU-8 Avenger 30mm gatling gun fires depleted uranium bullets at 3,900 rounds per minute. Pilots in the A-10 are protected by a titanium compartment. The aircraft can survive direct hits and high explosives projectiles up to 23 mm.
The A-10 is now deployed in Iraq and Syria in the war against the Islamic State. Despite its old age, members of Congress and troops believe the A-10 has unique capabilities in supporting ground forces.

WASHINGTON — The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter will compete against the A-10 Thunderbolt II in missions including close air support, combat search and rescue in order to determine whether the new fighter jet can replace the aging warthog.
"To me, comparison testing just makes common sense," J. Michael Gilmore, the Defense Department's director of operational test and evaluation was quoted as saying by Stars and Stripes. "If you're spending a lot of money to get improved capability, that's the easiest way to demonstrate it is to do a rigorous comparison test."
The F-35, with a wingspan of 36 feet and the top speed of Mach 1.6, has a unit price of $98 million. It has been designated to replace the A-10, a four-decade-old warplane which only costs about a fifth of an F-35. The F-35 costs $67,500 per flight hour while the A-10 only costs $11,500.
The F-35 allows pilots to share data immediately with others and is equipped with advanced stealth and radar-jamming capabilities. Its helmet also gives the pilot a 360-degree view of their surroundings. Which saves you time? Car vs Bike on a 10 mile commute (part 2)
There are a number of reported barriers to active travel such as lack of shower facilities, lack of safe cycle routes and perceived low levels of fitness. A common reason for driving to work by car is the perception that it saves time. But is this really the case? In part 2, we compare a hybrid bike against a car over a 10 mile uphill commute from Staffordshire University to Mow Cop Castle. The rider has been cycling 1-3 days each week for approximately 6 months (not a super fit cyclist at all). The bike is a road bike with a pannier rack (not a carbon fibre racer). Se espera que las lluvias provenientes del fenómeno se registren a partir de esta madrugada. Tenemos a Sarah Vallejo en directo desde el COE.
El fenómeno atmosférico se encuentra a unos 450 kilómetros al sur de la Isla Saona y a unos 240 kilómetros al norte de Curazao, lo que llevó a las autoridades a elevar el número de provincias en alerta verde.
De acuerdo con el informe del COE, se espera que los valores acumulados de lluvias asociados al huracán categoría 1, Matthew oscilen entre 50 y 150 milímetros.
El director del COE informó que si Matthew continúa su trayectoria prevista, colocaría su centro en agua del Caribe Central al sur de Santo Domingo cerca del mediodía de este viernes.
Más temprano, el Gobierno activó su plan de contingencia ante los posibles remanentes que podría dejar a su paso este huracán.
Tanto el plan social de la Presidencia como los comedores económicos informaron que están listos para dar asistencias alimenticias y artículos de necesidad.
Los organismos de socorro pidieron a las embarcaciones mantenerse en puerto por vientos y olas anormales, prohibió el uso de playas y la realización de deportes acuáticos en las costas del país.

Ever since hearing this theme on Netflix as it automatically played on my PS4 system, I had to hear it again. I also wanted to play it out, because that's what I do best when I come across new music that I love. I figured I'd share the wealth and put together a 10+ minute extended version of the track.
This extended version blends the intro credits score with the outro credits score. There are subtle differences. The intro theme plays in conjunction with the animated text sequence. The black screen parts of the video, in general, are the outro theme.
