Dance

Dance is a performance art form consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human movement. This movement has aesthetic and symbolic value, and is acknowledged as dance by performers and observers within a particular culture. Dance can be categorized and described by its choreography, by its repertoire of movements, or by its historical period or place of origin.

An important distinction is to be drawn between the contexts of theatrical and participatory dance, although these two categories are not always completely separate; both may have special functions, whether social, ceremonial, competitive, erotic, martial, or sacred/liturgical. Others disciplines of human movement are sometimes said to have a dance-like quality, including martial arts, gymnastics, figure skating, synchronized swimming and many other forms of athletics.

Performance and participation

Theatrical dance, also called performance or concert dance, is intended primarily as a spectacle, usually a performance upon a stage by virtuoso dancers. It often tells a story, perhaps using mime, costume and scenery, or else it may simply interpret the musical accompaniment, which is often specially composed. Examples are western ballet and modern dance, Classical Indian dance and Chinese and Japanese song and dance dramas. Most classical forms are centred upon dance alone, but performance dance may also appear in opera and other forms of musical theatre.

Kunala

Kunala (IAST: Kuṇāla ) (263 BC - ?) was a son of Emperor Ashoka and Queen Padmavati and the presumptive heir to Ashoka, thus the heir to the Mauryan Empire which once ruled almost all of the Indian subcontinent. After the departure of Mahendra (who was Ashoka's eldest son), he was supposed to be the future heir to the empire, but was blinded by his step-mother, Tishyaraksha, at a young age in jealousy. While he was not able to take the throne, his son, Samprati, became his heir.

Kunala also served as the Viceroy of Taxila during the reign of his father, having been appointed to the position in 235 BC.

Significance of name

The name Kunal in many Indian languages means "Eagle". Kuṇāla is also the name of a Himalayan bird, the 'Painted Snipes'. The most famous meaning of Kunal is in Sanskrit which is "Lotus". Kunal also means "bird with beautiful eyes", "someone who sees beauty in everything" or "one with beautiful eyes".

Early life

Due to the premature death of his birth mother, Rani Padmavati within a few months of his birth, he was raised by Ashoka's chief queen consort Asandhimitra who loved him like her own son. Due to this, Asandhimitra is often mistaken to be his birth mother. At the age of eight, Ashoka sent his son to Ujjain, there to be brought up and carry out his princely education, to become the heir to the throne of the Mauryan Empire. Which he should not have succeeded because he was the youngest and had no right to rule just like his father.

Saahil Prem

Saahil Prem (Born 23 August) is an Indian Bollywood actor, director, writer and Dj/composer. He is best known for playing the lead opposite Sunny Leone in Ragini MMS 2 and Directing/Writing and Acting in one of India's first Dance Film's Mad About Dance

Personal life

Born in Chembur, Saahil went to a boarding school in Panchgani called St. Peter's Boys School, where he lived away from the city under strict rules. After school he decided to go to Sheffield Hallam University for further studies, That is where his passion for music took over and he became the resident Dj for his University. His passion followed him into London where he took up residency at one of the best Asian clubs (Mangos) in London. After having played at various clubs and events all over Europe, Saahil came back to Mumbai and did a three month acting course at Actor Prepares. Wanting to learn more about the Indian Film Industry he then joined Vipul Shah as his assistant for the film Namastey London. Soon after that he decided to start writing his dance film Mad About Dance which he also directed and acted in as the male lead opposite Amrit Maghera. He also plays the lead opposite Sunny Leone in Balaji’s Ragini MMS 2 .

Amrit Maghera is a London based professional model turned actress, working in Hindi, English and Punjabi films.

Early life

Of mixed parentage, Amrit is of Indian, English and Scottish origin.

She did BA (1st) in Performing Arts from Winchester University in Hampshire, England and a diploma in acting from The Barry John Acting Studio in Mumbai. Her father is a businessman in UK and mother, a homemaker.

Career

She began her career as a dancer dancing for the likes of Kanye West and Guns N’ Roses. She was working as a back-ground dancer on the sets of a Bollywood film in Mumbai when she was scouted by a modelling agency bringing in a five-year contract with Lakme, India’s highest top end cosmetic company as its brand ambassador. This launched her career in modelling as she went on to do assignments with reputed brands like Satya Paul, Miss Sixty, L’Oreal, Sketchers, Nokia and Olay among others, besides participating in fashion shows with designers like Alison Kanugo and Neeta Lulla. She has also appeared on the cover page of magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, GQ, Vogue, FHM, Verve, Femina and Maxim.
