The Romance languages, (sometimes called the Latin languages, and occasionally the Romanic or Neo-Latin languages) are the modern languages that evolved from spoken Latin between the sixth and ninth centuries A.D. and that thus form a branch of the Italic languages within the Indo-European language family.
Today, around 800 million people are native speakers worldwide, mainly in Europe and the Americas, but also elsewhere. Additionally, the major Romance languages have many non-native speakers and enjoy widespread use as lingua francas. This is especially the case for French, which is in widespread use throughout Central and West Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius and the Maghreb region.
The five most widely spoken Romance languages by number of native speakers are Spanish (410 million), Portuguese (216 million), French (75 million), Italian (60 million), and Romanian (25 million).
Because of the difficulty of imposing boundaries on a continuum, various counts of the Romance languages are given; Dalby lists 23 based on mutual intelligibility:

This was a project I made for a university class. I decided to keep it up because the info might help people learn. I know my pronunciation isn't perfect and that I could add more languages/info about the languages. However, I don't plan to update this video. RUDE OR INFLAMMATORY COMMENTS WILL BE DELETED. Please keep all conversation constructive and civil! If you're offended because I didn't include the Portuguese or Romanian colors, I'm really sorry, but I only had so much time and because I was studying Spanish, French, and Italian at the time, those are the languages I included. Commenters have listed the Portuguese and Romanian colors if you're curious. And because I get a lot of comments about it, here are other places where these languages are spoken: ITALIAN: official in Italy...

Did you know that there are different sign languages for almost every country? They even form different "families" just like Germanic languages and Romance languages. I think that sign language is beautiful to watch, and it's interesting to see how the different sign languages compare to each other. The real credit goes to the "performers" / translators who shared Frozen with people who would've missed out otherwise. I downloaded these videos a long time ago, and I didn't keep a good record of who made them, so please help me complete the list! What are some of the similarities between Spanish, French and Portuguese and which one of the three is the easiest to learn? If you study Italian and/or Romanian, feel free to add to this in the comments section! I don't study the two, so I couldn't talk about them. If you have studied the three languages I mentioned, or speak them as your first language, let me know which one you think is the easiest! Sorry for the length of the video! I usually like making shorter videos but there was a lot I wanted to say about this topic. If there is a topic you want me to cover about languages or travel, feel free to send me a message or leave a comment. This is an in depth video about subject pronouns in the Romance / Latin languages listed in the video. I've done my best to explain the uses of each one. I have been studying many languages and their grammar for a long time. I hope this can help anyone who has doubts on the uses of subject pronouns. Please note, some object pronouns may be used in some situations. Uses of subject pronouns do not reflect the intelligence of anyone! They are mostly based on register and situation. Please leave comments.

Beginning in the eighth century B.C., Ancient Rome grew from a small town on central Italy’s Tiber River into an empire that at its peak encompassed most of continental Europe, Britain, much of western Asia, northern Africa and the Mediterranean islands. Among the many legacies of Roman dominance are the widespread use of the Romance languages (Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian) derived from Latin, the modern Western alphabet and calendar and the emergence of Christianity as a major world religion. After 450 years as a republic, Rome became an empire in the wake of Julius Caesar’s rise and fall in the first century B.C. The long and triumphant reign of its first emperor, Augustus, began a golden age of peace and prosperity; by contrast, the empire’s decline and fall by the ...

NYU Florence Graduate Studies Seminar Adam Ledgeway: Testing Linguistic Theory and Variation to their Limits. The Case of Italo-Romance Drawing on a number of corpus studies, including a considerable amount of data taken from my own corpora of textual and fieldwork studies on the dialects of Italy, I shall explore, in a manner which is accessible to both general scholars of Italian and to linguists, how the richly documented diachronic and areal variation exhibited by the Romance languages, and in particular the dialects of Italy, offers an unparalleled wealth of linguistic data. It will be shown that the linguistic varieties of Italy represent a perennially fertile and still under-utilized testing ground which has a central role to play in challenging linguistic orthodoxies and shaping a...
