Orquesta Riverside (known as Orquesta Havana Riverside between 1938 and 1941) was a highly successful Cuban big band that was amongst the most popular ensembles of the 1940s and 1950s. Founded in 1938, it was originally directed by local musician Enrique González Mantici until 1945. Other directors were Antonio Sosa (1945-47), Pedro Vila (1947-57), Adolfo Guzmán (1957-62), Argelio González and Nelson Arocha.
In 1993, the ensemble disbanded after a long period lacking success. Years later, Raúl Nacianceno Miyares, a former saxophonist in the band, revived the name of the band with young music graduates, playing the same arrangements as 50 years ago.
Ana Lila Downs Sánchez, best known as Lila Downs (born September 9, 1968) is an American–Mexican singer-songwriter and actress. She performs her own compositions as well as tapping into Mexican traditional and popular music. She also incorporates indigenous Mexican influences and has recorded songs in many indigenous languages such as Mixtec, Zapotec, Mayan, Nahuatl and Purépecha. Born and raised in Oaxaca, she primarily studied at the Institute of Arts by Oaxaca and briefly attended University of Minnesota, before withdrawing to focus on her musical career. She soon began performing in the traditional music scene of Oaxaca City.
Her first album, Ofrenda, was released in 1994. In 1999, Downs came to prominence with her debut studio album, La Sandunga, which was a critical and commercial success. She achieved international success in 2001 with the album Border which emerged in the music scene of Mexico and Latin America in the early 2000s (decade). Lila's seventh album, Pecados y Milagros (2011), topped album charts in most major markets and generated chart-topping world music albums. Her eighth album is planned for release in 2014.

Orquesta Riverside Orquesta Riverside. Fue fundada en La Habana en 1938 por el compositor, violinista y director de orquesta Enrique González Mántici con el nombre de Havana Riverside. La Orquesta Riverside fue un grupo musical cubano que llegó a ser la más aclamada orquesta cubana en los años 40 y 50. La Orquesta Riverside debutó en Radio Autram y Carbó Radio. Más tarde la dirigió Antonio Sosa, y en 1947 pasó a la dirección del saxofonista Pedro Vila, posteriormente pasó a ser dirigida por Argelio González, Adolfo Guzmán, pianista y compositor, y Nelson Arocha Enseñat, pianista. Fue la primera orquesta que en 1950 actuó por la televisión.
