The Arkansas Attorney General is an executive position and constitutional officer within the Arkansas government. The Attorney General is the chief law enforcement/legal officer and lawyer for Arkansas. The position is elected every four years, e.g. 2006 and 2010, at the same time as the Governor.
The current Attorney General is Republican Leslie Rutledge, who was elected on November 4, 2014 and sworn in as the 56th Attorney General of Arkansas on January 13, 2015. She is the first Republican ever to serve as Arkansas Attorney General, as well as the first woman.
The best-known Arkansas Attorney General is Bill Clinton, who was elected to the position in 1976 and served until he was elected governor in 1978. Other former attorneys general include Bruce Bennett, Joe Purcell, Ray Thornton, Jim Guy Tucker, Mark Pryor, Steve Clark and Mike Beebe. Until Rutledge took office, Democrats had held the office since Reconstruction.
According to the official website, the duties of the Attorney General include representing state agencies and commissions in courts of law, giving opinions on issues presented by legislators and prosecutors, handling criminal matters and habeas corpus matters in the state, and advocating for citizens on issues pertaining to the environment, antitrust, and consumer protection.
Arkansas (i/ˈɑːrkənsɔː/) is a state located in the Southern region of the United States. Its name is of Siouan derivation, denoting the Quapaw Indians. The state's diverse geography ranges from the mountainous regions of the Ozark and the Ouachita Mountains, which make up the U.S. Interior Highlands, to the densely forested land in the south known as the Arkansas Timberlands, to the eastern lowlands along the Mississippi River and the Arkansas Delta. Known as "the Natural State", Arkansas has many diverse regions that offer residents and tourists a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Arkansas is the 29th largest in square miles and the 33rd most populous of the 50 United States. The capital and most populous city is Little Rock, located in the central portion of the state, a hub for transportation, business, culture, and government. The northwestern corner of the state, including the Fayetteville–Springdale–Rogers Metropolitan Area and Fort Smith metropolitan area, is also an important population, education, and economic center. The largest city in the eastern part of the state is Jonesboro. The largest city in the southeastern part of the state is Pine Bluff.
In most common law jurisdictions, the attorney general or attorney-general is the main legal advisor to the government, and in some jurisdictions they may also have executive responsibility for law enforcement, prosecutions or even responsibility for legal affairs generally. In practice, the extent to which the attorney-general personally provides legal advice to the government varies between jurisdictions, and even between individual office-holders within the same jurisdiction, often depending on the level and nature of the office-holder's prior legal experience.
The term was originally used to refer to any person who holds a general power of attorney to represent a principal in all matters. In the common law tradition, anyone who represents the state, especially in criminal prosecutions, is such an attorney. Although a government may designate some official as the permanent attorney general, anyone who comes to represent the state in the same way may, in the past, be referred to as such, even if only for a particular case. Today, however, in most jurisdictions the term is largely reserved as a title of the permanently appointed attorney general of the state, sovereign or other member of the royal family. The term is pluralized attorneys general or attorneys-general.

Leslie Rutledge says that deception and dishonesty are all second nature for Hillary
Craig Melvin had Arkansas attorney general Leslie Rutledge on MSNBC Live today, and the two of them got in a bit of a sparring match over Donald Trump‘s antics following the debate at Hofstra University. Since his face-off with Hillary Clinton, Trump has raised eyebrows for both implying he’ll attack Clinton with her husband’s history of sexual misconduct, and also for taunting a former Miss Universe model over her weight gain in the past. Rutledge, a Trump supporter, deflected when Melvin brought up Trump’s rhetoric this week, citing instead Clinton’s “grave insults to women” over the years. Melvin tried to get back on track by asking why Trump can’t take the high road instead of doubling down on personal insults, though the segment dissolved again when Rutledge immediately filibustered...

by Clay Herrmann Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge addressed an enthusiastic audience at the Garland County Republican Party Headquarters on August 7, 2015. Topics touched on include: 1) Details of the new AG Program addressing the large problem of metal thievery in Arkansas. 2) How the Arkansas AG's office is responding to an over-reaching Federal Government in general, and an out-of-control EPA in particular. Cooperating with litigation by Attorney Generals in other states and the hiring of Arkansas' first ever "Solicitor General". is part of the Arkansas AG's answer to these threats from the Federal Government. New EPA energy and water regulations are particularly ominous and onerous. The new energy regulations promise to vastly increase utility rates for everyone, and the wa...
