"The Black Dahlia" was a nickname given to Elizabeth Short (July 29, 1924 – c. January 15, 1947), an American woman who was the victim of a much-publicized murder in 1947. Short acquired the moniker posthumously from newspapers in the habit of nicknaming crimes they found particularly lurid. The "Black Dahlia" nickname may have been derived from a film noir murder mystery, The Blue Dahlia, released in April, 1946. Short was found mutilated, her body sliced in half at the waist, on January 15, 1947, in Leimert Park, Los Angeles, California. Short's unsolved murder has been the source of widespread speculation, leading to many suspects, along with several books, television and film adaptations of the story. Short's murder is one of the oldest unsolved murder cases in Los Angeles history.
Short was born in Boston, the third of five daughters of Cleo and Phoebe May (Sawyer) Short. She grew up in the suburb of Medford, Massachusetts. Her father built miniature golf courses until the 1929 stock market crash, when he lost most of his money. One day in 1930, he parked his car on a bridge and was not heard from for years, leading many to presume he had committed suicide. Phoebe May Short moved her family into a small apartment in Medford and went to work as a bookkeeper to support them. It was not until a letter of apology was received that the family learned Cleo Short was still alive, and living in California.
The Black Dahlia Murder is an American melodic death metal band from Waterford, Michigan, formed in 2001. Their name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia. The band comprises vocalist Trevor Strnad, guitarists Brian Eschbach and Ryan Knight, drummer Alan Cassidy, and bassist Max Lavelle. Out of the seven studio albums they have released to date, the last six of them have charted on the U.S. Billboard 200, with their fifth album Ritual peaking at No. 31 in 2011, marking them as one of the most popular contemporary American extreme metal bands. Their latest album, Abysmal, was released on September 18, 2015.
The Black Dahlia Murder began its inception during late 2000 and gained the final band line-up in January 2001. The group released their demo entitled What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse, and a four-track EP, A Cold-Blooded Epitaph, the latter of which the group released on Lovelost Records. After appearing in concerts such as the Milwaukee Metal Fest, The Black Dahlia Murder signed to Metal Blade Records in 2003.
Black Dahlia is a 2006 United States production horror film that is inspired by the mysterious unsolved murder of "Black Dahlia"—Hollywood actress Elizabeth Short. Instead of dramatizing the infamous 1947 murder of Short and the ensuing investigation, writer-director Ulli Lommel follows a series of contemporary L.A.-area homicides patterned after the 1947 slaying.
Lions Gate Entertainment distributes this film on DVD.
In a brief prologue set in 1947, Elizabeth Short (Danielle Petty, as "Ivy Elfstrom") is murdered by an unseen assailant. In present-day Los Angeles, a "copycat" serial killer is dumping partially mutilated female bodies in an emulation of Elizabeth Short's murderer. Women answering an ad for a movie audition are systematically killed by Satan worshippers. One of the cops becomes obsessed with the story of Elizabeth Short, looks up the original 40s murder online, and dreams about it. Eventually, he comes face-to-face with the killers.
The film showcases four violent death sequences. The actresses whose characters are brutally killed are, in order of appearance, Lorielle New, Laura Leigh Hofrichter (as "Laura Leigh"), Crystal Nelson, and Jana Laurin.

Black Dahlia is an interactive movie point-and-click adventure game that was released on February 28, 1998 by Take-Two Interactive.
The story, while fictional, is inspired by the real life Cleveland Torso Murderer and the infamous murder of Elizabeth Short in Los Angeles.
This interactive movie point-and-click adventure game ties Elizabeth Short's murder to Nazis and occult rituals which the player has to investigate. The game features 2 big Hollywood star named actors, Dennis Hopper and Teri Garr.
Agent Pearson is the newest member of the COI, and is somewhat dejected to find the job not as glamorous as he was initially told. After being given a case where a local munitions manufacturer was invited to join the Thule society, Pearson is puzzled by the apparent connections with Nazi occultism. Along the way he encounters Agent Winslow, apparently a bumbling Federal agent who is more concerned with his press appearance than solving cases.
After making a connection between the Thule society and the Cleveland torso murders, Pearson leads a local detective to the butchers lair after finding bizarre Gaelic documents left by his predecessor regarding a ritual involving Odin and a gemstone called the Black Dahlia, which is a key instrument that can render a ritual user the ability to control dreams.

in between, insidious vapor shall teem
looming so loathesome
and it seems to me like I'm dead inside
bloated corpse, propped out of tradition
I can never recall what it was I had ever to strive for as a youth
was it just to exist, autonomously?
no, we don't wanna work
we just wanna fuck,
swallow pills and forget our curses
no, we don't need pigs like you
we'll follow the laws of our emptying veins
in this world of nothing for me
I'd be sooner destroyed
vampire youth, raise your cups to the ne'er waning moon,
let its visage ring true!
to the hearts cold and blue
we're dying each moment, FREE
we're all animals here
flesh and blood, bone and dream!
we're just impulses here
another piece of shit in the storm
JUST ANOTHER PIECE OF SHIT
from the smelling of things it appears this shit has come to a boil
the night-time we shall rule as our own
while the hollow shall sleep
we shall bark at the moon
in this world of nothing for me
I'd be sooner destroyed
in this world there is nothing for us but the sound (but the sound)
vampire youth, raise your cups to the ne'er waning moon,
let its visage ring true!
to the hearts cold and blue
we're dying each moment
we'll never sleep again
we'll be going fucking mad
sin and hell is all we will ever know
just another piece of shit!
