Band name:
KID CHROME
Date & location formed:
I got my Tascam four track April 2013 and I’ve been recording Kid Chrome stuff with it since then, but the first show where I performed the songs live was June 2nd this year in Seattle, WA.
Kid Chrome (photo by The Safari LA)
Reason for forming:
I mean, it didn’t really “form.” I’ve always just kind of done solo recording projects in my room, but I started doing it live because someone asked, and I said yes. And then I liked how it turned out haha.
What are your lyrics about?
The lyrics are vague and simple rock n’ roll concepts about extremely personal things.
How would you describe your sound?
Someone in a windowless basement with a four track, guitar, and a drum machine, who likes The Stooges and Roky Erickson a lot and can’t seem to get it right, but is trying the hardest they can.
What’s in the future for this band?
Hopefully get a record out and tour a lot, or forever, or just put out demos and mixtapes and tour a lot.
Date & location formed:
Springfield, Illinois like December of 2015.
Reason for forming:
We just wanted to play some hawdcore.
What are your lyrics about?
Everything from personal struggles to being an unwavering, unapologetic hardass. The things that are just easier to say when you are yelling them at strangers.
How would you describe your sound?
Each of us has a style of hardcore and punk that we’re all more familiar with. Tater likes that 77 rock n’ roll punk thing, Gus and Drew like ignorant tough guy shit, and Blue digs on like post-punk/hardcore. Our sound borrows from each of these little bit, but the ignorant tough gal punk shines through the most probably.
What’s in the future for this band?
Right now we’re working on our second tape and also a little weekend run in December. Also we’re playing that insane fest that Ralph is putting on in Chicago in December 2016.
Date & location formed:
Formed in November 2015 in Richmond, VA but didn’t really do much until March 2016.
Reason for forming:
We just want to make music that we’d listen to and can be proud of.
What are your lyrics about?
Lyrics are about personal issues, politics, DIY, and questioning whether or not lyrics are relevant in music.
How would you describe your sound?
Crusty melodic screamo punk.
Pigeon Meeting (photo by Jake Cunningham)
What’s in the future for this band?
Right now we’re just writing more and playing local shows. Hopefully we’ll record something else by the end of the year.
Date & location formed:
March of 2016, Los Angeles.
Reason for forming:
The band was originally started as a home recording project by Kaz. He met Davey and was a fan of his last band Lost Tribe, and they wanted to do the same sound.
What are your lyrics about?
Personal issues.
How would you describe your sound?
UK post punk mixed with LA Deathrock.
What’s in the future for this band?
Tape and 7” coming out on Death Shadow records. More shows around the LA area. West coast tour in Feb of 2017 with Portland’s Shadowhouse. Record full length LP
Date & location formed:
Started playing in mid 2015 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Reason for forming:
We were all sort of on a dry spell of playing in heavier bands and decided to start a straight edge hardcore band. Something uncommon in our area. We’ve since had member changes and have give up on the straight edge dream as a band. It’s hard to have a straight edge band in a place that has like 10 straight edge people.
What are your lyrics about?
They are mostly very angry and ranting about something or someone.
How would you describe your sound?
Take a straight up hardcore band and just make it a bit heavier. Dirty bass and guitar tones and heavier vocals. Almost Think I Care like.
What’s in the future for this band?
We are currently writing to record our second release. Likely a 7″ this time around.

Band name:
BODY PARTY
Date & location formed:
January 2016, Philadelphia.
Reason for forming:
All of us wanted to try something new, half the band was new to their instruments but all enjoyed playing.
What are your lyrics about?
A mix of nihilistic self-reflecting stuff, political statements, and just straight up talkin’ shit.
How would you describe your sound?
A lot of noise and chaos with underlying groovy drum beats.
What’s in the future for this band?
Well, I think currently we’re all trying to figure out what we want for the next project. We’ve made a lot of changes, constantly wanting to construct our sound in a way we all like, and make the best stuff we can. Eventually we’ll be releasing a 10-12 song record, either late 2016 or early 2017. We’re all looking forward to it and we’re all pretty confident that it is a big step up from the demo, with some good changes.
Date & location formed:
First practice was January, 2016. first show was April.
Reason for forming:
PJ wrote a demo worth of material he had been sitting on for a while.
What are your lyrics about?
Being a fish in jail, bed bugs, war.
How would you describe your sound?
Early Swedish hc punk, middle era Varukers.
What’s in the future for this band?
Recording a 7″ in October.

Band name:
SLUMP
Date & location formed:
Richmond VA, Around 2 years ago.
Reason for forming:
Sonic camaraderie. The NSA was listening so we turned the noise on. Slump is deafening delinquency that has taken this form of fuckery. The right members showed up at the right place at the right time, we’re just going with it.
What are your lyrics about?
Avoiding smug Rhetoric, we all feel a tension, a estranged urgency.
How would you describe your sound?
Broody scrambled grey matter.
Date & location formed:
January 2016 in SF / Oakland, CA.
Reason for forming:
Our friends heard we were sitting on a few demos and booked a show for us without our permission.
What are your lyrics about?
You tell us.
How would you describe your sound?
More night time than afternoon.
What’s in the future for this band?
Cassette edition of the self-titled ep available in Europe via Paris label Gone With The Weed soon. Recording new material at Oakland’s Secret Bathroom Studios for a new release soon. Pacific Northwest tour soon.
Date & location formed:
We were formed May of 2016 in McAllen, TX (RGV).
NARB (photo by Roldy Boc)
Reason for forming: Pace: me and Tj had just got out of a band and wanted to be in a new one already, Jessie hadn’t been in a band for a while and wanted to start one, and Nelson had just started learning bass so it just made sense especially because we all wanted the same sound. We met up for practice and made our first three songs.
What are your lyrics about?
Hating yourself, hating others, hating cops, and drinking chlorine.
How would you describe your sound?
NARB-y B)
What’s in the future for this band?
We are having a tape release show for our new EP on October 27th which will also be available on our bandcamp the same day. Other than that we just plan making more music and going on a west coast tour in January.

A message from Olympia, WA hardcore band G.L.O.S.S.
Girls Living Outside Society’s Shit, photo by Renate Winter.
Hey y’all,
G.L.O.S.S. has decided to break up and move on with our lives. We all remain close friends, but are at a point where we need to be honest about the toll this band is taking on the mental and physical health of some of us. We are not all high-functioning people, and operating at this level of visibility often feels like too much.
We want to measure success in terms of how we’ve been able to move people and be moved by people, how we’ve been able to grow as individuals. This band has become too large and unwieldy to feel sustainable or good anymore—the only thing growing at this point is the cult of personality surrounding us, which feels unhealthy. There is constant stress, and traveling all the time is damaging our home lives, keeping us from personal growth and active involvement in our communities. Being in the mainstream media, where total strangers have a say in something we’ve created for other queer people, is exhausting.
The punk we care about isn’t supposed to be about getting big or becoming famous, it’s supposed to be about challenging ourselves and each other to be better people. It feels hard to be honest and inward when we are constantly either put on a pedestal or torn down, worshipped or demonized. We want to be whole people, not one-dimensional cartoons.
We are so thankful for everyone who has supported us and taken the time to tell us what we mean to you. If this band was for you, you know who you are, and no one can take that away. We will be playing Not Dead Yet Fest in Toronto in October, and planning one final show in the northwest with details to come. All of the money we make on Bandcamp after our break-up will be donated to the Interfaith Works Emergency Overnight Shelter, a low-barrier homeless shelter in Olympia, WA. Our records will remain in print.
Thank you for understanding why we have decided to put this down. While we know it might be sad for a lot of you, please understand that it is sad for us, too, but also relieving and nurturing. Ending the band is the right thing to do if we want to have healthy personal lives. (On that tip, while we appreciate your support so much, please don’t email us asking us not to break up or asking us about merch.)
We are eternally grateful for the people we have met and the places we have been due to G.L.O.S.S. Making these connections has been deeply rewarding and meaningful. Thank you so much for everything over the past year and a half.
Sharing this experience with you all has truly meant the world to us.
