The purpose of this website is to help you find resources for teaching High School Economics in a way that is socially and environmentally responsible and which stimulates critical thinking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is this website needed?
A: Many available resources for the high school course present a narrow, and often ideologically slanted, version of economics. The lively controversies that characterize economics today are ignored, and issues such as poverty, economic justice and ecological sustainability are deemphasized. Using only such materials, students may come to believe that any economics problem can be cured by reciting the mantra of "private property, free markets, and economic growth."

Q: Who is running this website?
A: Economists Mark H. Maier and Julie A. Nelson.

Q: Will there be more resources added to this site?
This site was initially set up in late 2006, as we completed the writing of our book, Introducing Economics: A Critical Guide for Teaching. But books and guides go out of date. Our intention is to, over time, build up this web-based clearinghouse of quality resources for the high school course. We are seeking funding to expand this project, and we also welcome your suggestions of additional resources we could feature. Stay tuned!
