Queensland public servant charged with drink driving

An investigation has been launched after a senior public servant in the Queensland government was charged with drink driving.

Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services deputy director-general corporate and executive services Kathy Dunning was charged with driving under the influence on Wednesday night.

Director-general Michael Hogan said the matter was under investigation by himself and the Public Service Commission.

"The officer advised me she has been charged by police with driving under the influence," Mr Hogan said.

"Disciplinary action will be considered in accordance with the Code of Conduct and Public Service Act.

"The public service has high standards and I am disappointed about the behaviour of this officer."

Mr Hogan said the officer recognised the gravity of the situation.

The department, led by Minister Shannon Fentiman, has been under the spotlight recently, with an investigation into the foster care system launched after charges were laid over the death of Tiahleigh Palmer.
