Vanuatu (English i/ˌvɑːnuːˈɑːtuː/ vah-noo-AH-too or /vænˈwɑːtuː/ van-WAH-too; Bislama IPA: [vanuaˈtu]), officially the Republic of Vanuatu (French: République de Vanuatu, Bislama: Ripablik blong Vanuatu), is a Pacific island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, is some 1,750 kilometres (1,090 mi) east of northern Australia, 500 kilometres (310 mi) northeast of New Caledonia, east of New Guinea, southeast of the Solomon Islands, and west of Fiji.
Vanuatu was first inhabited by Melanesian people. The first Europeans to visit the islands were a Spanish expedition led by Portuguese navigator Fernandes de Queirós, who arrived on the largest island in 1606. He then claimed the archipelago for Spain, as part of the colonial Spanish East Indies, and named it Austrialia del Espiritu Santo.
In the 1880s, France and Great Britain claimed parts of the archipelago, and in 1906 they agreed on a framework for jointly managing the archipelago as the New Hebrides through a British–French Condominium. An independence movement arose in the 1970s, and the Republic of Vanuatu was founded in 1980.

While Vanuatu is the pearl of the South Pacific featuring amazing people, wonderful islands and active volcanos, Air Vanuatu may likewise be seen as a pearl in the aviation industry. Operating a fleet of beautifully painted aircraft with a single Boeing 737-800 flagship, it transports the unique island spirit of Vanuatu into the world. The in-flight experience from the passenger's point of view is above average: The crew welcomes you with that naturally inherent smile, warmth and hospitality which makes you feel at home on board. Additionally, the in-flight catering is above world-class level and e.g. in Business Class exceeds the quality levels offered by international competitors like Emirates Airlines in the same class of service. Australia is helping Vanuatu to train its health workers, building their skills in areas such as nursing, as well as helping to build its health systems through providing much needed surgical services and equipment. Australian aid saves lives: http://www.savethechildren.org.au/aid4change Many villages on Vanuatu’s outer islands are isolated and do not have access to basic services like healthcare. Although under-five child deaths have decreased over the past 10 years in Vanuatu, more children still die in rural areas compared with urban areas. Save the Children works with the Australian Government, the Ministry of Health in Vanuatu and communities to set up aid posts in villages that do not have access to health care. We also train and support the ongoing skills development of community volunteers known as Village Health Workers.

The Vanuatu Ministry of Health, began a measles prevention campaign in Vanuatu with support from UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO). This is critically important given the low routine immunisation rates and a recent measles outbreak in early March. The purpose of the campaign is to prevent a measles epidemic in a population made doubly vulnerable by low immunisation coverage and the cyclone disaster. Mystery Island was one of the real surprises on a recent visit to New Caledonia on board the Celebrity Solstice. The Island is basically a sand bar with a grass runway on top of it but it's beauty is unmatched in the area. The views of the bay were stunning and the pictures & footage I managed to grab were nothing short of exceptional! Wow, what a day!

Celebrity Survivor Australia Vanuatu ch7 promo from 2006. I don't even remember this being on, maybe because most of the so called 'celebrities' were pretty forgettable, anyway they included Iron man Guy Leech, motorcyclist Wayne Gardner, One Nation politician David Oldfield (how bizarre), Nicolle Dickson & Justin Melvey from H&A; & a bunch of other people i've never heard of.
New Years Eve 2015/16 aboard the Celebrity Solstice out of Sydney visiting Noumea, Vanuatu, Mystery Island, Lifou and New Caledonia. Filmed using a gopro 3 Silver because the cruise security confiscated my DJI Phantom 3 quadcopter before boarding and refused to give it back until we landed back in Sydney. Gave some lame arse excuse about flying it around the ship in port....as if I couldn't have already done that in Sydney before boarding if I wanted to. I would hardly fly it at sea....guaranteed to lose it then. Overboard.
