Terah Venzant Chambers
Terah Venzant Chambers (Ph.D., Educational Policy Studies, University of Illinois—Urbana-Champaign) is an associate professor of K-12 educational administration at Michigan State University. Her research interests include post-Brown K-12 education policy and urban education/urban education leadership. Specifically, she is interested in the ways within-school segregative policies influence African American students' academic achievement and school engagement, as well as the price of school success for high-achieving students of color (racial opportunity cost). She has previously served as a Congressional Fellow with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) with placements in the Office of Rep. Diane E. Watson (retired) and the Office for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Venzant Chambers was named the 2010 Outstanding New Faculty Member in the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M; University and received Outstanding Reviewer of the Year awards from the Journal of School Leadership in 2010 and Urban Education in 2013. She has previously served as an associate editor for Educational Administration Quarterly (2009-2013) and the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education (2007-2012) and has published in such journals as the Journal of Negro Education, Educational Studies, Journal of School Leadership, and Urban Education. She served on the 2013 UCEA Convention Planning Committee, participated as faculty for the 2012 David L. Clark National Graduate Student Research Seminar, served on the 2011 Division A Nominating Committee, and represented Texas A&M; University as the UCEA plenary session representative (2010–2013).

Terah
Terah or Térach (Hebrew: תֶּרַח / תָּרַח, Modern Téraḥ / Táraḥ Tiberian Téraḥ / Tāraḥ ; "Ibex, wild goat", or "Wanderer; loiterer") is a biblical figure in the Book of Genesis, son of Nahor, son of Serug and father of the Patriarch Abraham, all descendants of Shem's son Arpachshad. Terah is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible and in the New Testament.
Genesis narrative
Most of what is told about Terah is recorded in Genesis 11:26–28. Terah's father was Nahor, son of Serug, descendants of Shem. They and many of their ancestors were polytheistic. Regarding his children, Terah had three sons: Abram (better known by his later name Abraham), Haran, and Nahor II. His daughter Sarai, by a second wife, was also his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram. The entire family, including grandchildren, lived in Ur of the Chaldees. One of his grandchildren was Lot, whose father, Haran, had died before the family left Ur. Terah's son Abram had an encounter with God, who directed him to take the entire family, leave Ur, and move to the land of Canaan. Terah coordinated the journey, intending to go to this new land, but stopped in the city of Haran along the way, where he died at the age of 205.

Her research interests include post-Brown K-12 education policy and urban education/urban education leadership. Specifically, she is interested in the ways within-school segregative policies influence African American students' academic achievement and school engagement, as well as the price of school success for high-achieving students of color (racial opportunity cost). She has previously served as a Congressional Fellow with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) with placements in the Office of Rep. Diane E. Watson (retired) and the Office for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Education.
