Volunteer! Volunteer! Volunteer!

We are excited to announce that we are now welcoming applications to volunteer at WordCamp US 2016. Volunteering at a WordCamp is a wonderful way to get involved with the WordPress Community, to meet new friends, connect with existing ones and have a great time.

Important Volunteer Information

As we continue to evaluate our volunteering needs for 2016, we have the following important details to share:

(1) The application period will run from 01-Aug-2016 through 31-Aug-2016.
(2) We plan to finalize our list of volunteers by late September 2016 (if not a bit sooner.)
(3) At this point, we believe that we will need more volunteers than last year. Please share a link to the application form with all of your friends!

WordPress Community Summit Update

Photo by Kari Leigh Marucchi & Sheri Bigelow

As the time for WordCamp US 2016 draws near a lot of us are scrutinizing our calendars and starting to think about travel planning. With the big event just a few months away; dates, times, travel, and lodging are all decisions that need to be made and for some of you the WordPress Community Summit will heavily influence those choices.

So it is our absolute pleasure to announce that the next WordPress Community Summit will not be hosted by WordCamp US.

The next WordPress Community Summit will be hosted by another WordCamp you all might have heard of: WordCamp Europe 2017.

We don’t have all the details in place, so consider this post a save-the-date card for those of you who are looking to attend the next Community Summit.

More details will be available in the coming months. Subscribe to WordCamp Europe 2017 and Make WordPress Community to ensure you get all the details.

Tickets are now available for WordCamp US, and speaker slots are filling up! We’ll see you December 2-4 in Philadelphia!

And then again in Paris.

WordCamp US Call for Speakers

We’re thrilled to announce that WordCamp US 2016 is officially accepting speaker applications!

The 2nd annual WordCamp US will be held in Philadelphia, PA December 2-4, 2016, bringing together WordPress enthusiasts from all areas to participate in the largest WordCamp in the world. We’re looking to build a program packed with amazing presentations which reflects the diversity of the WordPress community and we want you to be a part of it!

What We’re Looking For

WordCamp US showcases the best of WordPress and the WordPress Community. We’re particularly interested in hearing from those who have used WordPress in interesting, innovative, and significant ways. Whether the open source software was used to deliver something technically amazing or whether WordPress was the foundation for creating something meaningful in the community, we want to know about it. We’re also looking for dynamic and versatile speakers to talk about how they use WordPress to grow their business, develop advanced plugins, tell their stories, and much much more.

We also want to hear voices from outside the WordPress community. If you work on other Open Source projects or web design and development in general and think the WordPress community could benefit from your story we want it told at WCUS.

Looking for more inspiration? Check out presentations from last year’s event.

What’s happening with WordCamp US 2016?

It’s been a while since we last posted an update so it may seem as though little is going on, however we’ve been hard at work with preparations for what will be an even larger WordCamp US this year. (We expect over 3,000 attendees!)

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

  • Putting together the internal teams that work on various areas, like sponsorship, website design, marketing, and volunteer coordination.
  • Reaching out to sponsors to provide the financial support an event this size requires.
  • Improving the way speakers will be able to submit proposals.
  • Working through any issues from the 2015 event.

Be sure to sign up for email updates, or follow along on Twitter or Facebook, so you’ll be on top of all of the latest developments. (To receive email updates, just enter your email address where it says “Email Address” in the left sidebar and click “Subscribe.”)

We’ll be calling for speakers and volunteers soon!

Applications for the WordCamp US 2017 host city now open!

2017 is a year away but the planning for WordCamp US 2017 starts today! Before we can get too far in the planning process there are a few decisions that need to be made. At the very top of that list of details? We need to choose a city to host to WordCamp US in 2017 and 2018.

Is your city the perfect place to host WordCamp US? Are you willing to lead the local WordCamp US organizing team for two consecutive years?

Applications are open now through Monday, February 29, 2016.
