Sachin Dev Burman (1 October 1906 - 31 October 1975; also known as Burman da, Kumar Sachindra Dev Barman, Sachin karta, S. D. Burman) was a Tripuri singer and composer. He was also a music composer of Hindi movies. His son Rahul Dev Burman was also a music director. S D Burman composed music for 100 movies, including Bengali films.S.D. Burman's compositions have been mainly sung to a large extent by the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Asha Bhosle and Shamshad Begum. Mukesh and Talat Mahmood have also sung songs composed by him. He also sang about 20 film songs for which he composed music though he may not have been the music director of the films.

S D Burman (1st October 1906 -- 31st October 1975) fondly known as "Sachin Karta" by the Bengali film and contemporary music world is a yardstick when it comes to musical genius. Born in Comilla under the British Raj S D Burman hailed from the royal family of Tripura. Sachin Dev Burman had a huge influence of Indian classical music as well as the folklore of Bengal and in general India. He started his career as a radio singer in Calcutta. His first record was released in 1932 under the label "Hindustan Musical Products Ltd." with a classical song on one side and a folk song on the other side of the 78 RPM record. S D Burman's Bengali Songs became a rage with the masses. He eventually moved into scoring for movies and became one of the most celebrated music directors of Bollywood.
But even with a raging film music career S D Burman's bengali songs remained on the top of the charts decade after decade. some of the Top Hits of S D Burman are compiled in this album. Among S D Burman's old songs the most famous is a bhatiali song "Rangila Rangila Rangila Rey" written by Dukhai Khandakar and composed by S D Burman. Later on S D Burman's son the legendary R D burman used this same tune as the main theme music for his last film score for the film "1942 A Love Story".
Another very popular song in this compilation is " Hai Ki Jey Kori E Mono Niya" written by Mohini Chowdhury and composed by S D Burman. This particular song became a smash hit all over India when R D Burman used the same tune to compose the hit song "Tuney o rangeelay kaisa Jadoo Kiya" for the film " Kudrat" (1981) directed by Ketan Anand. Such was the beauty of S D Burman melodies.

Burman, was one of the most respected and successful music composers for Hindi movies and a Bengali singer and composer. His son Rahul Dev Burman also achieved great success as a Bollywood music director in his own right.
S.D. Burman's compositions have been mainly sung to a large extent by the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Asha Bhonsle and Shamshad Begum. Mukesh and Talat Mahmood have also sung songs composed by him.
S. D. Burman was born on 1 October 1906, in Comilla, British India, now in Bangladesh, to Rajkumari Nirmala Devi, princess of Manipur and Nabadwipchandra Dev Burman, the only son of 'Ishanachandra Dev Burman', Raja of Tripura, (r. 1849-1862). His father hailed from the kokborok speaking royal family of Tripura while his mother hailed from the Manipuri speaking royal family of Manipur.Sachin was the youngest of the five sons, of his parents, who had nine children in all.
He did his B.A. from Comilla Victoria College and M.A. from Calcutta University. He started his formal music education by training under the famous musician K. C. Dey from 1925 to 1930; thereafter in 1932 he came under the tutelage of Bhismadev Chattopadhaya, who was only three years his senior. This was followed by training from Kahifa Badal Khan, Sarangi player, and Ustad Allauddin Khan.
He started working as a radio singer on Calcutta Radio Station in 1932, where his early work was based on Bengali folk-music, and soon made a reputation for himself in folk and light classical music, consequently his film compositions were often influenced by his huge repertory of folk-tunes from the Bengali, Bhatiali, Sari and Dhamail folk traditions of Bangladesh.
In 1944, he moved to Mumbai, at the request of Sasadhar Mukherjee of Filmistan, who asked him to give score for two Ashok Kumar starrers, Shikari (1946) and Aath Din. Disillusioned with the materialism of Mumbai, S D Burman left the Ashok Kumar starrer Mashaal (1950) incomplete and decided to board the first train back to Calcutta. Fortunately, he was dissuaded from doing so.
In 1950s, S D Burman teamed up with Dev Anand's Nav Ketan Productions to create musical hits like Taxi Driver, Nau do Gyarah (1957) and Kala Paani(1958). In addition, he gave music for Munimji (1955) and Paying Guest (1957).
In 1957, S D Burman fell out with Lata Mangeshkar and adopted her younger sister Asha Bhosle as his lead female singer.
S D Burman was a frank and outspoken man, with a strong sense of self-pride. He openly criticized people whom he disliked or whose abilities he suspected, but he was widely respected by the industry as a cranky genius.There was a time when Lata Mangeshkar refused to sing duets with Mohammad Rafi due to a dispute arising from sharing of royalty, and it was at the insistence of S. D. Burman, the two decided to reconcile, and again sing duets together.

Sachin Dev Burman (1 October 1906 – 31 October 1975) was a renowned Indian music composer. A member of the Tripura royal family, he started his career with Bengali films in 1937. Later he began composing for Hindi movies, and became one of the most renowned Bollywood film music composers. S D Burman composed music for over 100 movies, including Hindi and Bengali films. Apart from being a versatile composer, he also sang songs in light semi classical and folk style of Bengal. His Son Rahul Dev Burman was also a celebrated music composer for Bollywood films.

Sachin Dev Burman (1 October 1906 - 31 October 1975), also credited as Burman da, Kumar Sachindra Dev Barman, Sachin karta or S. D. Burman, was one of the most respected and successful music composers for Hindi movies and a Bengali singer and composer. His son Rahul Dev Burman also achieved great success as a Bollywood music director in his own right. S.D. Burman's compositions have been mainly sung to a large extent by the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Asha Bhonsle and Shamshad Begum. Mukesh and Talat Mahmood have also sung songs composed by him. S. D. Burman was born on 1 October 1906, in Comilla, British India, now in Bangladesh, to Rajkumari Nirmala Devi, princess of Manipur and Nabadwipchandra Dev Burman, the only son of 'Ishanachandra Dev Burman', Raja of Tripura, (r. 1849-1862). His father hailed from the kokborok speaking royal family of Tripura while his mother hailed from the Manipuri speaking royal family of Manipur.Sachin was the youngest of the five sons, of his parents, who had nine children in all. He did his B.A. from Comilla Victoria College and M.A. from Calcutta University. He started his formal music education by training under the famous musician K. C. Dey from 1925 to 1930; thereafter in 1932 he came under the tutelage of Bhismadev Chattopadhaya, who was only three years his senior. This was followed by training from Kahifa Badal Khan, Sarangi player, and Ustad Allauddin Khan. He started working as a radio singer on Calcutta Radio Station in 1932, where his early work was based on Bengali folk-music, and soon made a reputation for himself in folk and light classical music, consequently his film compositions were often influenced by his huge repertory of folk-tunes from the Bengali, Bhatiali, Sari and Dhamail folk traditions of Bangladesh. In 1944, he moved to Mumbai, at the request of Sasadhar Mukherjee of Filmistan, who asked him to give score for two Ashok Kumar starrers, Shikari (1946) and Aath Din. Disillusioned with the materialism of Mumbai, S D Burman left the Ashok Kumar starrer Mashaal (1950) incomplete and decided to board the first train back to Calcutta. Fortunately, he was dissuaded from doing so. In 1950s, S D Burman teamed up with Dev Anand's Nav Ketan Productions to create musical hits like Taxi Driver, Nau do Gyarah (1957) and Kala Paani(1958). In addition, he gave music for Munimji (1955) and Paying Guest (1957). In 1957, S D Burman fell out with Lata Mangeshkar and adopted her younger sister Asha Bhosle as his lead female singer. S D Burman was a frank and outspoken man, with a strong sense of self-pride. He openly criticized people whom he disliked or whose abilities he suspected, but he was widely respected by the industry as a cranky genius.There was a time when Lata Mangeshkar refused to sing duets with Mohammad Rafi due to a dispute arising from sharing of royalty, and it was at the insistence of S. D. Burman, the two decided to reconcile, and again sing duets together. -

S D Burman (1st October 1906 -- 31st October 1975) fondly known as "Sachin Karta" by the Bengali film and contemporary music world is a yardstick when it comes to musical genius. Born in Comilla under the British Raj S D Burman hailed from the royal family of Tripura. Sachin Dev Burman had a huge influence of Indian classical music as well as the folklore of Bengal and in general India. He started his career as a radio singer in Calcutta. His first record was released in 1932 under the label "Hindustan Musical Products Ltd." with a classical song on one side and a folk song on the other side of the 78 RPM record. S D Burman's Bengali Songs became a rage with the masses. He eventually moved into scoring for movies and became one of the most celebrated music directors of Bollywood.
But even with a raging film music career S D Burman's bengali songs remained on the top of the charts decade after decade. some of the Top Hits of S D Burman are compiled in this album. Among S D Burman's old songs the most famous is a bhatiali song "Rangila Rangila Rangila Rey" written by Dukhai Khandakar and composed by S D Burman. Later on S D Burman's son the legendary R D burman used this same tune as the main theme music for his last film score for the film "1942 A Love Story".
Another very popular song in this compilation is " Hai Ki Jey Kori E Mono Niya" written by Mohini Chowdhury and composed by S D Burman. This particular song became a smash hit all over India when R D Burman used the same tune to compose the hit song "Tuney o rangeelay kaisa Jadoo Kiya" for the film " Kudrat" (1981) directed by Ketan Anand. Such was the beauty of S D Burman melodies.

Sachin Dev Burman (1 October 1906 - 31 October 1975), also credited as Burman da, Kumar Sachindra Dev Barman, Sachin karta or S. D. Burman, was one of the most respected and successful music composers for Hindi movies and a Bengali singer and composer. His son Rahul Dev Burman also achieved great success as a Bollywood music director in his own right.
S.D. Burman's compositions have been mainly sung to a large extent by the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Asha Bhonsle and Shamshad Begum. Mukesh and Talat Mahmood have also sung songs composed by him.
S. D. Burman was born on 1 October 1906, in Comilla, British India, now in Bangladesh, to Rajkumari Nirmala Devi, princess of Manipur and Nabadwipchandra Dev Burman, the only son of 'Ishanachandra Dev Burman', Raja of Tripura, (r. 1849-1862). His father hailed from the kokborok speaking royal family of Tripura while his mother hailed from the Manipuri speaking royal family of Manipur.Sachin was the youngest of the five sons, of his parents, who had nine children in all.
He did his B.A. from Comilla Victoria College and M.A. from Calcutta University. He started his formal music education by training under the famous musician K. C. Dey from 1925 to 1930; thereafter in 1932 he came under the tutelage of Bhismadev Chattopadhaya, who was only three years his senior. This was followed by training from Kahifa Badal Khan, Sarangi player, and Ustad Allauddin Khan.
He started working as a radio singer on Calcutta Radio Station in 1932, where his early work was based on Bengali folk-music, and soon made a reputation for himself in folk and light classical music, consequently his film compositions were often influenced by his huge repertory of folk-tunes from the Bengali, Bhatiali, Sari and Dhamail folk traditions of Bangladesh.
In 1944, he moved to Mumbai, at the request of Sasadhar Mukherjee of Filmistan, who asked him to give score for two Ashok Kumar starrers, Shikari (1946) and Aath Din. Disillusioned with the materialism of Mumbai, S D Burman left the Ashok Kumar starrer Mashaal (1950) incomplete and decided to board the first train back to Calcutta. Fortunately, he was dissuaded from doing so.
In 1950s, S D Burman teamed up with Dev Anand's Nav Ketan Productions to create musical hits like Taxi Driver, Nau do Gyarah (1957) and Kala Paani(1958). In addition, he gave music for Munimji (1955) and Paying Guest (1957).
In 1957, S D Burman fell out with Lata Mangeshkar and adopted her younger sister Asha Bhosle as his lead female singer.
S D Burman was a frank and outspoken man, with a strong sense of self-pride. He openly criticized people whom he disliked or whose abilities he suspected, but he was widely respected by the industry as a cranky genius.There was a time when Lata Mangeshkar refused to sing duets with Mohammad Rafi due to a dispute arising from sharing of royalty, and it was at the insistence of S. D. Burman, the two decided to reconcile, and again sing duets together.

Google on Monday paid tribute to legendary music composer of Indian Film Industry RD Burman through a doodle on its home page.
Burman, who was also popularly known as Pancham Da, was the only son of composer Sachin Dev Burman. Today is his 77th birth anniversary.
The Google Doodle carries a colorful, smiling portrait of Burman along with music notes and scenes from Bollywood songs in the background.
Pancham Da had composed music for more than 330 movies including Sholay, Yaadon ki Baraat and Masoom among others.

S D Burman hailed from the royal family of Tripura and he grew up in Comilla which now is a part of Bangladesh. S D Burman was really keen on the folk music tradition of Bengal and he learnt it from the very grass root level. Influences of variety of these folk forms can be observed rampantly in Sachin Karta’s music later on.
The other form of music that S D Burman learnt very methodically later on when he came to Kolkata for higher studies was Indian Classical Music. The influence of ragas, Kheyal, Thumri and various rhythmic complexities can be seen in many S D Burman classic compositions both in Hindi and Bengali. S D Burman’s Bengali Songs require a special mention because these were the first expression of this creative genius. Many S D Burman Hit songs in Hindi are basically re adaptation of his Older Bengali Songs.
S D Burman started his musical career with Hindustan Record and was loyal to the label till he shifted his base from Calcutta to Bombay later on in his life. This album is a compilation of S D Burman’s Old Songs from that era. These songs are all evergreen and still a smash hit with the listeners. A Song listed in this compilation is “Nishithey Jaiyo Phulo Boney” this song went on to be such a big hit that it is still played in various occasions over and over again. Another such composition is “Rangila Rangila Rangila Rey”. S D Burman’s son the legendary R D Burman used the tune of this song as the theme of the last musical score he made for the film 1942 A Love Story. Another such gem in this compilation is the song “Hai Ki Jey Kori E Mono Niya” the use of melody and rhythm in this composition is just extra ordinary and may be possible only by S D Burman. Overall this compilation of S D Burman Hit Songs is definitely worthy of collection.

SD Burman or Sachin Karta as he is fondly remembered by many Bengalis, brings back an overdose of nostalgia from the golden era of Bengali Songs.
S D Burman was the uncrowned king of modern Bengali film and non film songs. Obviously after shifting base to Bombay, S D Burman became the king of melodies for Bollywood, but his Bengali compositions were never forgotten and they still are heard and talked about in the Bengali Society. S D Burman hailed from the royal family of Tripura and he grew up in Comilla which now is a part of Bangladesh. S D Burman was really keen on the folk music tradition of Bengal and he learnt it from the very grass root level. Influences of variety of these folk forms can be observed rampantly in Sachin Karta’s music later on.
The other form of music that S D Burman learnt very methodically later on when he came to Kolkata for higher studies was Indian Classical Music. The influence of ragas, Kheyal, Thumri and various rhythmic complexities can be seen in many S D Burman classic compositions both in Hindi and Bengali. S D Burman’s Bengali Songs require a special mention because these were the first expression of this creative genius. Many S D Burman Hit songs in Hindi are basically re adaptation of his Older Bengali Songs.
S D Burman started his musical career with Hindustan Record and was loyal to the label till he shifted his base from Calcutta to Bombay later on in his life. This album is a compilation of S D Burman’s Old Songs from that era. These songs are all evergreen and still a smash hit with the listeners. A Song listed in this compilation is “Nishithey Jaiyo Phulo Boney” this song went on to be such a big hit that it is still played in various occasions over and over again. Another such composition is “Rangila Rangila Rangila Rey”. S D Burman’s son the legendary R D Burman used the tune of this song as the theme of the last musical score he made for the film 1942 A Love Story. Another such gem in this compilation is the song “Hai Ki Jey Kori E Mono Niya” the use of melody and rhythm in this composition is just extra ordinary and may be possible only by S D Burman. Overall this compilation of S D Burman Hit Songs is definitely worthy of collection.

A legendary composer and music director from the Hindi film Industry, S D Burman has a complete different identity when it comes to Bengali songs and playback. This album “Madhu Brindabone” is a compilation of S D Burman Bengali Songs. These are some of the evergreen S D Burman Old Songs.
Before moving down to the tinsel town of Bombay 'karta' was an ardent resident of the city of joy. Born with a royal lineage S D Burman grew up in Comilla which was the province that was owned by the royal family of Tripura in undivided Bengal. S D Burman had a natural fondness for the folklore and folk culture of Bengal in particular. He came down to Kolkata to complete higher studies. But his natural talent and inclination destined his path to take up music as a lifestyle and he took talim under many famous Indian Classical patrons. S D Burman released his first album under the label of Hindusthan Record which had two songs sung by the young turk, one was a folk song the other was a classical based composition. The album became a super duper hit and after that there was no looking back. Many S D Burman Hit Songs were produced and recorded under Hindusthan Record.
This album is a gold mine of S D Burman old Bengali songs. Almost all of them were very popular when they were released. S D Burman’s compositional craftsmanship as well as his unique vocal quality is what make these songs so much memorable and immortal. Two of the classic examples of such sheer brilliance is compiled in this album which are Godhulir Chhayapathey and Prem Jamunar Parey.
