Hey ! After 3 domino videos, Marbomino is back ;)
In this project, I use those little magnets that can be used to make cubes and others geometric figures, I think the name is "Neocube".
It's really impressive how many tricks you can do with that, at the beginning I didn't think that I could make a whole project based on those magnets, but finally, it was pretty easy and I think there is still lots of cool tricks to discover !
I like this kind of video when I can't do what I want, I'm forced to think of tricks with magnets in that case. It's the opposite of my video "Random screen link" when I just build all the thing that come to my mind, constraints are good for the creativity it allows to find original tricks that no one has thought (I think, because I've never seen something like this on youtube). It reminds me my project "The New Trick" after rubber bands, let's use magnets ;)
I think this project is the best one of the three I did with marbles, but there are still a little problem : the lighting.
Because now that I'm in a small appartement for studies, there is only one window on my room, it's not a big one and I don't have powerfull lights. That's why some of the ideas in this screen link seems to be darker than others, you can litteraly see the difference when a cloud passes over the sun (and it's happend 2-3 times).
It's also the reasons why I made a project with marbles, in a small room it's easier than dominoes, even when you have a long table !
- Why the video has taken so long to come out ?
Yeah, I know ... but let me explain, because there's many reasons :
First, I had to buy marbles and magnets on ebay, I waited 2 weeks for the delivery. Then I made a first screen link but it was bad because of a format problem on my camera. The movie was jerky and the lighting was terrible because I tried to use artificial lights (very bad idea ).
Also, this screen link was supposed, at the beginning, to be a big machine in one take on my table, but I give up after 50 fails, maybe RGM is not my thing. Maybe I just need to try with more reliable tricks ^^
And the last reason : I'm lazy and perfectionnist, with those two things it's hard to finish a project, because I have this idea in my mind since 3 months maybe, and I work really hard for only 4 minutes at the end (domino builder is a hard job) .But trust me there is more work in this project than you can see in this video, because of how many times I start from scratch.
You can see that this description is bigger than in my other videos, because this time I had lots of things to say, and I realize that it's better for you to know the background of a project.
If you read all this description, thank you and sorry for my bad english, I'm not used to write long texts like this, but I hope it was interesting and I hope you like my video ;)
This has to be the most epic marble run ever. Starting in the bedrooms, the marble navigates the top floor before dashing down the stairs and through the Christmas Tree! Travelling from the top to the bottom of the house, the marble then glides along the track, emerging into the garden before diving into the swimming pool! With over 200m of track, this Christmas marble run is like no other.

Big Marble Run Machine: 11000 Marbles (kugelbahn, knikkerbaan)
This Marble Run "Marble Tsunami" has 4 tipping containers holding totally more than 11000 marbles. In this video you'll see the 10000 marbles AND the 1000 marbles container will tipping together causing more than 11000 marbles rolling down the giant tracks. The sound is deafening, because of the noise, it will be equipped with noise damping housing and glass panels on the front.
NOTE: This marble machine (or great ball contraption) is build inside a indoor playground "Monkey Town" at Gouda, the Netherlands, so don't worry about neighbours! It's standing in a large hall next to a sport center.

Marble Mountain is a large marble machine still under construction. It consists of 25 sections that mesh together to form one kinetic sculpture. Every element is themed (or will be upon completion) to an aspect of my life or to something that I find interesting. Some of the elements include a roller coaster, ski jump, Times Square, Lombard Street, and a skatepark. It took 3 years to get to this point of being able to turn it on and watch it go, and I will continue to work on it and get it fully completed.

Facts:
-It has a footprint of 12' x 8' and stands 8' tall
-The material of the tracks and supports consist almost entirely of wood
-Everything is custom-made from materials bought mostly from craft and hardware stores (mainly Michaels and Home Depot)
-The lift is 11 feet long, holds 90 marbles at once, and rotates at 1 revolution per second (60 RPM)
-It takes at least 250 marbles to keep it running without delay, but looks better with 300
-There are 32 possible paths for the marbles
-There are 14 rockers that distribute the marbles onto the different paths
-The first year and a half of construction happened in my apartment before moving to a small warehouse
-The original design was smaller and not as cool, so a redesign took place making it much bigger and morphed into a half-conical shape with the lift right down the middle
-I do know how much it cost to make thus far but even my wife doesn't know that number
-It takes just under an hour to set up or tear down Marble Mountain
-Since it is modular, I could remove a section and rebuild it as something else as long as the tracks matched up with the other pieces

A simple marble machine which has a spiral elevator and 4 paths. I reused some items from the former xmas marble run 2015. This project was intended to be decorated with Pat & Mat figures and environment, but i changed the plans. The project is not completed, it needs some finishing.
Path 1 & 2: Two duelling red slide-like track with a auto-start mechanism
Path 3: Transparent spiral track which ends in the "Blue Box" which contains a hidden tipping container which releases a lot of marbles with a loud noise.
Path 4: Steep drop with 2 big (cow)bells

I got opportunity to go to the sand dune and try to make the track. Lucky that the sand was not too dry. I'm now editing the videos, so this video is just to fill up the waiting.

This marble race track is made on a sand hill ("Doornse Gat", in Doorn, Utrechtse Heuvelrug, the Netherlands) and has several splits and other obstacles like jumps, junctions, crossings and more.
The winning marble will get 30 points, the second one get 25 points and the 3rd one 21 points. All top 20 marbles will get points in this race. The starting lineup has been randomized to give chance on marbles with low ranks.

Marble Mountain, a themed marble machine (marble run)

Marble Mountain is a large marble machine still under construction. It consists of 25 sections that mesh together to form one kinetic sculpture. Every element is themed (or will be upon completion) to an aspect of my life or to something that I find interesting. Marble Run Machine: Manic Marbles
A simple marble machine which has a spiral elevator and 4 paths. I reused some items from the former xmas marble run 2015. This project was intended to be decorated with Pat & Mat figures and environment, but i changed the plans. The project is not completed, it needs some finishing. Path 1 & 2: Two duelling red slide-like track with a auto-start mechanism Path 3: Transparent spiral track which ends in the "Blue Box" which contains a hidden tipping container which releases a lot of marbles with a loud noise. Hey ! After 3 domino videos, Marbomino is back ;)
In this project, I use those little magnets that can be used to make cubes and others geometric figures, I think the name is "Neocube".
It's really impressive how many tricks you can do with that, at the beginning I didn't think that I could make a whole project based on those magnets, but finally, it was pretty easy and I think there is still lots of cool tricks to discover !
I like this kind of video when I can't do what I want, I'm forced to think of tricks with magnets in that case. It's the opposite of my video "Random screen link" when I just build all the thing that come to my mind, constraints are good for the creativity it allows to find original tricks that no one has thought (I think, because I've never seen something like this on youtube). It reminds me my project "The New Trick" after rubber bands, let's use magnets ;)
I think this project is the best one of the three I did with marbles, but there are still a little problem : the lighting.
Because now that I'm in a small appartement for studies, there is only one window on my room, it's not a big one and I don't have powerfull lights. That's why some of the ideas in this screen link seems to be darker than others, you can litteraly see the difference when a cloud passes over the sun (and it's happend 2-3 times).
It's also the reasons why I made a project with marbles, in a small room it's easier than dominoes, even when you have a long table !
- Why the video has taken so long to come out ?
Yeah, I know ... but let me explain, because there's many reasons :
First, I had to buy marbles and magnets on ebay, I waited 2 weeks for the delivery. Then I made a first screen link but it was bad because of a format problem on my camera. The movie was jerky and the lighting was terrible because I tried to use artificial lights (very bad idea ).
Also, this screen link was supposed, at the beginning, to be a big machine in one take on my table, but I give up after 50 fails, maybe RGM is not my thing. Maybe I just need to try with more reliable tricks ^^
And the last reason : I'm lazy and perfectionnist, with those two things it's hard to finish a project, because I have this idea in my mind since 3 months maybe, and I work really hard for only 4 minutes at the end (domino builder is a hard job) .But trust me there is more work in this project than you can see in this video, because of how many times I start from scratch.
You can see that this description is bigger than in my other videos, because this time I had lots of things to say, and I realize that it's better for you to know the background of a project.
If you read all this description, thank you and sorry for my bad english, I'm not used to write long texts like this, but I hope it was interesting and I hope you like my video ;)

This Marble Run "Marble Tsunami" has 4 tipping containers holding totally more than 11000 marbles. In this video you'll see the 10000 marbles AND the 1000 marbles container will tipping together causing more than 11000 marbles rolling down the giant tracks. The sound is deafening, because of the noise, it will be equipped with noise damping housing and glass panels on the front.
NOTE: This marble machine (or great ball contraption) is build inside a indoor playground "Monkey Town" at Gouda, the Netherlands, so don't worry about neighbours! It's standing in a large hall next to a sport center.

-It has a footprint of 12' x 8' and stands 8' tall
-The material of the tracks and supports consist almost entirely of wood
-Everything is custom-made from materials bought mostly from craft and hardware stores (mainly Michaels and Home Depot)
-The lift is 11 feet long, holds 90 marbles at once, and rotates at 1 revolution per second (60 RPM)
-It takes at least 250 marbles to keep it running without delay, but looks better with 300
-There are 32 possible paths for the marbles
-There are 14 rockers that distribute the marbles onto the different paths
-The first year and a half of construction happened in my apartment before moving to a small warehouse
-The original design was smaller and not as cool, so a redesign took place making it much bigger and morphed into a half-conical shape with the lift right down the middle
-I do know how much it cost to make thus far but even my wife doesn't know that number
-It takes just under an hour to set up or tear down Marble Mountain
-Since it is modular, I could remove a section and rebuild it as something else as long as the tracks matched up with the other pieces

A simple marble machine which has a spiral elevator and 4 paths. I reused some items from the former xmas marble run 2015. This project was intended to be decorated with Pat & Mat figures and environment, but i changed the plans. The project is not completed, it needs some finishing.
Path 1 & 2: Two duelling red slide-like track with a auto-start mechanism
Path 3: Transparent spiral track which ends in the "Blue Box" which contains a hidden tipping container which releases a lot of marbles with a loud noise.
Path 4: Steep drop with 2 big (cow)bells
NOTE:

I got opportunity to go to the sand dune and try to make the track. Lucky that the sand was not too dry. I'm now editing the videos, so this video is just to fill up the waiting.

- The previous video "Marble Race Debate" has been removed because i did not feel me at ease with a video about politics which can cause rude comments and even hate by certain users.
This marble race track is made on a sand hill ("Doornse Gat", in Doorn, Utrechtse Heuvelrug, the Netherlands) and has several splits and other obstacles like jumps, junctions, crossings and more.
The winning marble will get 30 points, the second one get 25 points and the 3rd one 21 points. All top 20 marbles will get points in this race. The starting lineup has been randomized to give chance on marbles with low ranks.

Origami Marble Maze
[Intermediate] Tutorial for how to fold a free-standing Marble Maze from a single square of paper no cuts. It works with marbles, ball bearings, or perfectly spherical beads. If you don't have any little spherical balls you could use water instead, pouring it onto the slide using a measuring cup (works best if you fold the model from origami foil!) Although I in show how to collapse the model flat, in my opinion, it looks a little bit cleaner (fewer extra creases) if you don't collapse it and, furthermore, collapsing it is hardest part of the tutorial! Here's a Marble Maze game you can play with your friends. The object of the game is to see how many marbles you can get onto the Marble Maze before the first one reaches the bottom and without getting them stuck. It's all about timing....

[Intermediate] Tutorial for how to fold a free-standing Marble Maze from a single square of paper no cuts. It works with marbles, ball bearings, or perfectly spherical beads. If you don't have any little spherical balls you could use water instead, pouring it onto the slide using a measuring cup (works best if you fold the model from origami foil!)
Although I in show how to collapse the model flat, in my opinion, it looks a little bit cleaner (fewer extra creases) if you don't collapse it and, furthermore, collapsing it is hardest part of the tutorial!
Here's a Marble Maze game you can play with your friends. The object of the game is to see how many marbles you can get onto the Marble Maze before the first one reaches the bottom and without getting them stuck. It's all about timing. If you let the next marble onto the maze too soon, it will hit the marble in front of it and get stuck. Each marble that makes it safely to the bottom is one point. You could play 5 or 10 rounds taking turns rolling as many marbles as you can safely down the slide. Then add up the points and whoever's score is highest wins. You could also play the game by yourself -- See how many marbles you can safely get down the slide in 5 tries.
This tutorial is intermediate, which means that unless you have a fair amount of experience folding, you will probably find it difficult. If you find I am going too fast, try using YouTube's slow motion feature. I know it works at least on the web browser Google Chrome which I think you can download for free on google.com . To use the slow motion feature, press the little gear icon at the bottom right of the video screen, click on 'normal' and then click on the speed .5 or .75. The cool part is that the pitch of the voice stays the same with .75 even though the video is slower. With .5 speed, the sound doesn't work. Hope that helps.
