Poverty is general scarcity, dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. Poverty may be defined as either absolute or relative. Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the lack of means necessary to meet basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Relative poverty takes into consideration individual social and economic status compared to the rest of society.
After the industrial revolution, mass production in factories made production goods increasingly less expensive and more accessible. Of more importance is the modernization of agriculture, such as fertilizers, to provide enough yield to feed the population. Responding to basic needs can be restricted by constraints on government's ability to deliver services, such as corruption, tax avoidance, debt and loan conditionalities and by the brain drain of health care and educational professionals. Strategies of increasing income to make basic needs more affordable typically include welfare, economic freedoms and providing financial services.

VICE heads to Newcastle to go inside one of the busiest food banks in Britain, where food is being distributed for free to more than 1,000 people a week. We meet the dedicated volunteers and the locals for whom poverty has become a part of everyday life after decades of industrial decline and years of austerity cuts. Inevitably, in such a situation, the system will occasionally falter. Australia's economy - and unemployment rate - might be the envy of countries around the world, but it doesn't mean poverty and unemployment have been eradicated. Race, IQ, and Poverty will be understood as soon as you watch the movies Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman. And also watch the Arrival with Charlie Sheen about aliens who used technology to look human and put human skin over themselves to trick people into racism. You'll thank me for my intellect while also thinking to yourself; why haven't we seen aliens or transhumans like Scarlett Johansson yet? Like Lucy? The main reasons are stereotypical racism perceived through skin color and socialistic sexual behaviors that psychology haven't nailed called Neo Existentialism (that I coined) that permits higher ups, celebrities, even others to act as if they are regular humans or everyday people. Stereotypical social or sexual disinterest worsens because of this politically bec...

Do we know what poverty is? The poor may always have been with us, but attitudes towards them have changed. Beginning in the Neolithic Age, Ben Lewis's film takes us through the changing world of poverty. You go to sleep, you dream, you become poor through the ages. And when you awake, what can you say about poverty now? There are still very poor people, to be sure, but the new poverty has more to do with inequality...
