The Arctic Circle is one of the five major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth. As of 16 January 2016, it runs 66°33′46.1″ north of the Equator.
The region north of this circle is known as the Arctic, and the zone just to the south is called the Northern Temperate Zone. The equivalent polar circle in the Southern Hemisphere is called the Antarctic Circle.
The Arctic Circle is the southernmost latitude in the Northern Hemisphere at which the sun can remain continuously above or below the horizon for 24 hours (at the June solstice and December solstice respectively). North of the Arctic Circle, the sun is above the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year (and therefore visible at midnight) and below the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year (and therefore not visible at noon). On the Arctic Circle those events occur, in principle, exactly once per year, at the June and December solstices, respectively. However, in actuality, because of atmospheric refraction and mirages, and because the sun appears as a disk and not a point, part of the midnight sun may be seen on the night of the northern summer solstice up to about 50 minutes (′) (90 km (56 mi)) south of the Arctic Circle; similarly, on the day of the northern winter solstice, part of the sun may be seen up to about 50′ north of the Arctic Circle. That is true at sea level; those limits increase with elevation above sea level, although in mountainous regions there is often no direct view of the true horizon.
Edward Michael "Bear" Grylls (born 7 June 1974) is a British adventurer, writer and television presenter. He is widely known for his television series Man vs. Wild (2006–2011), originally titled Born Survivor: Bear Grylls in the United Kingdom. Grylls is also involved in a number of wilderness survival television series in the UK and US. In July 2009, Grylls was appointed the youngest-ever Chief Scout in the UK at age 35.
Grylls was born in Donaghadee, County Down, Northern Ireland. He grew up in Donaghadee until the age of four, when his family moved to Bembridge on the Isle of Wight.
He is the son of Conservative politician Sir Michael Grylls, who was implicated in the cash-for-questions affair, and Lady Sarah Grylls. Lady Grylls is the daughter of politician Patricia Ford, briefly an Ulster Unionist Party MP, and cricketer and businessman Neville Ford. Grylls has one sibling, an elder sister, Lara Fawcett, a cardio-tennis coach, who gave him the nickname 'Bear' when he was a week old.
Here is a little movie I shot during my trip in the north of Sweden and Finland during the winter 2012-2013. It is 12:00 in december and there is a orange fireball that passes just above the conifer plans golden hues. The light and the colors are really beautiful this season, some places seem unreal for example to the tree limit when the sun passes behind the horizon between the trees turned into very intimidating statue, you see the forest and frozen lakes loss seen no traces of civilizations there is no noise, you're alone, night falls, the moon rises in the sky, the stars twinkle in thousands, hope you hear the howling of wolves and see the Northern Lights. That is hard to describe but you think you're on another planet. For plans that are filmed from right to left, I used a homemade d...
Bear Grylls Man vs Wild S04E01 - Arctic Circle
A great video of an abandoned Russian military base in the arctic being recommissioned. The Arctic (/ˈɑrktɪk/ or /ˈɑrtɪk/)[1][Note 1] is a polar region located at the northernmost part of the Earth. The Arctic consists of the Arctic Ocean and parts of Alaska (United States), Canada, Finland, Greenland (Denmark), Iceland, Norway, Russia, and Sweden. The Arctic region consists of a vast ocean with a seasonally varying ice cover, surrounded by treeless permafrost. The area can be defined as north of the Arctic Circle (66° 33'N), the approximate limit of the midnight sun and the polar night. Alternatively, it can be defined as the region where the average temperature for the warmest month (July) is below 10 °C (50 °F); the northernmost tree line roughly follows the isotherm at the boundary of...

The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon occurring in summer months at latitudes north and nearby to the south of the Arctic Circle, and south and nearby to the north of the Antarctic Circle where the sun remains visible at the local midnight. Given fair weather, the sun is visible for a continuous 24 hours, mostly north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle. The number of days per year with potential midnight sun increases the farther poleward one goes. The opposite phenomenon, polar night, occurs in winter when the sun stays below the horizon throughout the day.

50 Erasmus students from Riga went on an adventurous trip to Saariselkä in Lapland for one week. This video captures the best moments of the trip and the activities, including -swimming in the arctic ocean -Husky safari -snowmobile night safari -sledging on Europe's formerly longest slide -cross-country skiing -a visit of the Kemi SnowCastle -walking on the frozen Baltic Sea -a visit of Santa Claus' Home at the Arctic Circle -Reindeer sledging and more. It was an amazing trip, my thanks go to Timetravels and ESN Riga for the organisation and our finnish and latvian guides Maija, Annija and Lāse. The map animation was done by my brother, check out his channel here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7JoB1I0ww8D1Doh6dGxbCQ Enjoy the video! :-)
Heimo Korth is the last man standing in 19 million acres of Alaskan wilderness. His neighbors are polar bears and caribous. Say good bye to civilization and see how they do it in the arctic circle on the last frontier in America. In 1980, Jimmy Carter established the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in the Alaskan Interior, cutting off 19 million acres of prime boreal wilderness from the mitts of fur trappers, oil tycoons, and would-be lodge owners alike. Only six families of white settlers were grandfathered in and allowed to keep cabins in the refuge—of them, only one still stays there year-round living off the land. His name is Heimo Korth, and he is basically the Omega Man of Americas Final Frontier. Hosted by John Martin & Thomas Morton | Originally released in 2009 at http://vice....

Peek inside Facebook's massive data center near the Arctic Circle. Over the next few months, I'm going to start posting some rare photos of the most advanced technology Facebook is building around the world. We're starting deep in the forests of northern Sweden with the Luleå data center. It's a key part of our global infrastructure, and it uses a variety of local natural resources to increase efficiency and save power. The small town of Luleå is less than 70 miles south of the Arctic Circle, and it's typically pretty cold. The temperature in the area is below 50 degrees most days, so we use large fans to pull in the outside air to naturally cool the thousands of warm servers that line the center’s broad hallways. A dozen hydro-electric plants operate on nearby rivers, providing a reliabl...
After another 8 hour straight editing session things are now really moving. Part one is now done, parts 2, 3, 4 and five just need a little more work an that just leaves part 6, and a Q&A; video we want to make at the end to answer all of your questions. A full film launch will be announced over the next week or so. Jed

This is a film of a seven day wilderness trek in mid September 2013 along the Arctic Circle Trail in Greenland, from Kangerlussuaq near the ice cap to Sisimiut on the west coast. The film follows the adventures of three taciturn 50-somethings from St Albans, UK. These boys really know how to have fun. The film is raw and unedited but surprisingly watchable, though that's really for you to judge.
