Americans are citizens of the United States of America. The country is home to people of many different national origins. As a result, most Americans do not equate their nationality with ethnicity, but with citizenship and allegiance. Although citizens make up the majority of Americans, non-citizen residents, dual citizens, and expatriates may also claim an American identity.
The majority of Americans or their ancestors immigrated within the past five centuries, with the exception of the Native American population and people from Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine Islands who became American through expansion of the country in the 19th century, and American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Northern Mariana Islands in the 20th century.
Despite its multi-ethnic composition, the culture of the United States held in common by most Americans can also be referred to as mainstream American culture, a Western culture largely derived from the traditions of Northern and Western European colonists, settlers, and immigrants. It also includes influences of African-American culture. Westward expansion integrated the Creoles and Cajuns of Louisiana and the Hispanos of the Southwest and brought close contact with the culture of Mexico. Large-scale immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries from Southern and Eastern Europe introduced a variety of elements. Immigration from Asia, Africa, and Latin America has also had impact. A cultural melting pot, or pluralistic salad bowl, describes the way in which generations of Americans have celebrated and exchanged distinctive cultural characteristics.

With polls showing Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump trailing all other presidential candidates at 2% approval with African American voters, a campaign revamp has included a week of orchestrated outreach, including speeches in front of mostly white audiences and a visit to Great Faith Ministries an African American church in Detroit, Michigan. Detroit and Chicago, IL are two examples of cities that Donald Trump says have been poorly managed since the period of "white flight" and jurisdictional segregation that turned American's inner cities into "ghettos" during and after the Civil Rights movement. "What do you have to lose by voting Trump?" he wants to know. TYT Politics reporter Eric Byler went to the prestigious North Carolina A & T State University, a Historic Black Co...

Read your free e-book: http://hotaudiobook.com/mebk/50/en/B00DCCAW7O/book This is the first comprehensive account of African American secondary education in the postwar era. Drawing on quantitative datasets, as well as oral history, this compelling narrative examines how African Americans narrowed the racial gap in high school completion. The authors explore regional variations in high school attendance across the United States and how intraracial factors affected attendance within racial groups. They also examine the larger social historical context, such as the national high school revolution, the civil rights movement, campaigns to expand schooling and urging youth to stay in school, and Black migration northward. Closing chapters focus on desegregation and the "urban crisis" of the 196...

This is a lot larger than most people will admit. Quite often we, as a country, are unrighteously holding the world to a higher standard. Now the tables are turning and America might have to face the reality of her sins. Massive wrongdoing without some form of justice is incomprehensible... It defies the laws of nature and karma. It seems as tho America's magical powers of defying those laws are coming to a close... Time will tell. ~Sincere Download Our Independent Media App!
