Iago is a fictional supporting character in the animated Aladdin films and television series produced by The Walt Disney Company. He is voiced by Gilbert Gottfried and appeared in the first film as the sidekick to the main antagonist Jafar. The red-plumed talking bird is an apparent homage to an identically-named red parrot in the Tintin adventure The Castafiore Emerald.
Iago had been originally conceived as a "British" calm and serious character, but was reworked into a comic role after the filmmakers saw Gilbert Gottfried in Beverly Hills Cop II and Gottfried was cast to provide Iago's voice. Iago's animator Will Finn tried to incorporate some aspects of Gottfried's appearance into Iago's design, especially his semi-closed eyes and the always-appearing teeth.
Gilbert Gottfried has said that his voiceover career really began after voicing the character in the 1992 film. “... that has been one of those things that lives on,” he said. “That seemed to open the door for other voiceover jobs.”

Is Desdemona simply a victim or is she in some way responsible for her own downfall? How far is Othello a victim, ruled by emotion rather than logic? What is the conflict between Othello's identity as a Christian commander of the Venetian force and as a social and racial outsider?

In the early 1990s, Gilbert Gottfried and Jonathan Freeman first met each other as they stepped into sound booths. They were hired to provide voices for a new Disney film, to be released in 1992. Its title was Aladdin and Freeman would be playing the sinister villain Jafar. Gottfried was engaged to play Jafar's talking parrot companion, Iago. Over the next decades their voices would become synonymous with these roles. Disney recently released Aladdin on Blu-ray, and to celebrate the cast sat down with TheaterMania to reminisce. Here, Freeman (who reprises his performance as Jafar in the Broadway version of Aladdin) and Gottfried share their memories of the shooting process and discuss how they helped develop the iconic characters they're still remembered for today.
I'm Looking Out for Me on-screen lyrics sung by Iago the Parrot From the Bonus Features on Aladdin The Return of Jafar. PLEASE LEAVE A RATING OF THE VIDEO BEFORE YOU LEAVE!
Jafar's and Iago's most hilarious scenes from Disney's "Aladdin", Italian version.
