District courts are a category of courts which exists in several nations. These include:
District Court is the name given to the intermediate court in most Australian States. They hear indictable (serious) criminal offences excluding treason, murder and, in some States, manslaughter. Their civil jurisdiction is also intermediate, typically being for civil disputes where the amount claimed is greater than a $75 000 but less than $750 000. The limits vary between Australian States. In Victoria, the equivalent Court is called the County Court. Below them is the Magistrates' Courts, known as the Local Court in New South Wales. Above them are the State Supreme Courts.
Austria has some 200 district, or local, courts, which decide minor civil and criminal cases.
Finland has 27 district courts (käräjäoikeus/tingsrätt), which deal with criminal cases, civil cases and petitionary matters. Each court is headed by the Chief Judge and other District Judges. In certain cases, the district court may also have Lay Judges. The cases are handled and resolved either in a session or in chambers. In simple cases decisions can be made by notaries.
An explanation of the district court's role in the federal court system.
A woman was reportedly brought into a Kentucky courtroom with no pants and the presiding judge was not happy about it. The unidentified inmate was brought into the Jefferson District Court on Friday, where Judge Amber Wolf was prepared to sentence her for failing to complete a diversion program following a shoplifting conviction. That is, until the attorney informed Wolf that the woman was wearing no pants. The woman told the judge she'd been denied pants as well as feminine hygiene products for her three-day stint behind bars. This video includes both parts of Adam Horine's April 22 arraignment in Carroll District Court. Judge Elizabeth Chandler ordered an immediate mental-health examination and transport to Eastern State Hospital in Lexington for a more thorough psychiatric assessment. The cops had different plans. Later that night, an officer plucked the 31-year-old defendant from jail, drove him 50 miles to Louisville and bought him a one-way ticket to Florida. U.S. District Court Judge Julie A. Robinson's journey to the federal bench in Topeka, KS, started when, at the age of five, she decided to become a lawyer. She credits her success to her father's faith in her and the fact that her mentors set high standards and demanded the best from her. Judge Robinson tells young people: "You never can dream big enough, sometimes. You can never really know all that is in store for you. All you can do is make sure that you are ready, and positioned, and able, and willing to accept all that comes your way."
There are only 2 Jurisdictions Authorized Under the Constitution for use in criminal cases. 1. COMMON LAW JURISDICTION: CORPUS DELECTI, or injured party must be shown here. The STATE CANNOT CLAIM TO BE THE INJURED PARTY here or the case must be moved to FEDERAL COURT! 2. ADMIRALTY or MILITARY TRIBUNAL: To be valid, a valid international contract that I am a party to must be shown. The only other way this type of jurisdiction is valid is if I were an ENEMY COMBATANT, in the MILITIA, or a member the MILITARY. NONE OF THESE APPLY TO ME! In district court this morning, Keene Police prosecutor Jean Kilham seemed to be suggesting that because Derrick J was laughing during proceedings that he doesn’t deserve the right to concealed carry a gun. Derrick was clearly laughing at the absurdity of the violence brought against him during his Victimless Crime Spree, which was detailed in witness testimony today. Derrick J’s attorney, Free State Project participant and former FSP vice president Evan Nappen, is known among defense attorneys in New Hampshire as the go-to guy for gun rights cases. Nappen did a fine job today and Derrick seemed very pleased with how he argued the case. The Keene police argued that Derrick J is “unsuitable” to conceal carry, the big loophole word in the state’s “shall-issue” statute. While simultaneous...

The founder of the far-right French Front National (FN) party, Jean-Marie Le Pen, arrived at the District Court of Nanterre in Paris, Wednesday, for an appeal process to protest his expulsion from the party. Le Pen was suspended from the party in May 2015, and then expelled by the FN Executive Board because of a number of controversial statements, one of which concerned gas chambers in Nazi Germany, which he termed a "detail of history." Speaking to journalists after the hearing, Le Pen refused to comment on this particular statement, stating "No, sir I don't want to play that game, if I can," responding "Because it's my right." Le Pen's daughter Marine Le Pen, is the current leader of the FN party and distanced herself from the her father's statements. The court's decision is expected...

The Defendant in a personal injury auto accident case took an appeal following a jury verdict, asking the appellate court to reverse the trial court's decision. The Defendant's attorney presented his argument first. Attorney Jason Herman, of Herman & Wells, presented his arguments next, arguing that the trial court should be affirmed. Ten days after this argument, the Second District issued an opinion affirming the trial court, resulting in a full recovery for Mr. Herman's client, the Plaintiff.
