A union station (or depot, or terminal) is a train station used by more than one railroad company or line.
The proper name Union Station, and variants (Union Terminal, Union Depot, or Union Passenger Station) may refer to:
Union is the state of being united or joined.
Union may also refer to:
The Empire Builder is a passenger train operated by Amtrak in the Midwestern and Northwestern United States. It is Amtrak's busiest long-distance route, carrying more than 500,000 passengers a year in 2007–2010. Before Amtrak, the Empire Builder was the flagship train of the Great Northern Railway. The current route runs from Chicago, Illinois, to the Pacific Northwest. The line splits in Spokane, Washington, terminating at Seattle, Washington's King Street Station (2,206 miles (3,550 km) from Chicago) in the north and Portland, Oregon's Union Station (2,257 miles (3,632 km) from Chicago) in the south.
The train passes through Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. Layovers (train service stops) are made in Saint Paul, Minot, Havre, and Spokane. Other major stops are Milwaukee; Fargo; Whitefish, Montana; and Vancouver, Washington. Railways used are BNSF Railway's northern route from Seattle to Minneapolis, Minnesota Commercial from Minneapolis to St. Paul, Canadian Pacific from St. Paul to Glenview, and Metra from Glenview to Chicago.
Saint Paul (/ˌseɪnt ˈpɔːl/; abbreviated St. Paul) is the capital and second-most populous city of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of 2014, the city's estimated population was 297,640. Saint Paul is the county seat of Ramsey County, the smallest and most densely populated county in Minnesota. The city lies mostly on the east bank of the Mississippi River in the area surrounding its point of confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Minneapolis, the state's largest city. Known as the "Twin Cities", the two form the core of Minneapolis–Saint Paul, the 16th-largest metropolitan area in the United States, with about 3.5 million residents.
Founded near historic Native American settlements as a trading and transportation center, the city rose to prominence when it was named the capital of the Minnesota Territory in 1849. Though Minneapolis is better-known nationally, Saint Paul contains the state government and other important institutions. Regionally, the city is known for the Xcel Energy Center, home of the Minnesota Wild, and for the Science Museum of Minnesota. As a business hub of the Upper Midwest, it is the headquarters of companies such as Ecolab. Saint Paul, along with its Twin City, Minneapolis, is known for its high literacy rate. It was the only city in the United States with a population of 250,000 or more to see an increase in circulation of Sunday newspapers in 2007.
Urban Sketchers (USk) is a global community of artists that practice drawing on location in cities, towns and villages they live in or travel to. The Urban Sketchers movement was started on Flickr in 2007 by journalist Gabriel Campanario. In 2009 Campanario established Urban Sketchers as a nonprofit organization (501 (c) (3) tax-exempt). The Urban Sketchers Manifesto has been translated into several languages.
The USk motto is “We show the world, one drawing at a time!”
Urban Sketchers started as a group on image sharing site, Flickr, in 2007. The Urban Sketchers founder Gabriel (Gabi) Campanario is a Spanish journalist and illustrator living in Seattle. He is a journalist for The Seattle Times where he contributes as an artist and a writer to both the printed edition as well as blogs. As more and more artists began to submit and share their drawings online, Campanario started a group to support and promote journalistic drawing depicting real life as it happens in front of the artist.

A look at the Union Depot, which opened in 1893 at Fort Street and Second. It was the lesser-known, lesser-traveled of Detroit's two main train stations. The building stood until January 1974, when a crane with a jack-o-lantern-like bucket nibbled away on its red sandstone walls. A fitting, drawn-out demise for a depot that served Detroit for nearly 80 years. Featuring "Reckoner" by Radiohead. Take the train to this years Hostlers Train Show at the Ogden Utah Union Depot. Check out the modular layouts of the Sherman Hill model railroad club as well as the Hostlers. Lego trains and dealers and a plain old good time. ****************************************************************** This year Ogden train show was a huge hit, attracting a large crowd. The historic Ogden Union Depot is a great place for a train show, also home of the Utah Railroad Museum. Ogden was once the western end of the Union Pacific and interchange point with the Southern Pacific (before that the Central Pacific) and a significant railroad historic site. We catch a peak of the sight of the old roundhouse, subject of next weeks show, the Ogden Shops in HO scale! *********************************************...

Only a few hours late this time.
Filmed May 5, 2017 As part of "Union Depot Train Days" May 5 & 6, a night time photo shoot was put on to take pictures of the equipment, which included Great Northern SDP40 #325, Amtrak P42DC #42 (veterans) and the Amtrak Empire Builder to Seattle/Portland. Here is the video of the train arriving, some light shows for photographers, and the train departing the depot for the next stop. The location the video was taken is NOT open to the public and was only allowed with special permission in part of the paid photo shoot. This was filmed with my iPhone 7, so apologies for the shakes and bumps in the video.
The CP Rail 2014 Christmas Train pulling into the Historic Union Depot, downtown St. Paul, MN, in front of a crowd of 20,000 people. The train featured Country Music Singer Kira Isabella performing out of a boxcar. The Christmas Train had a Challenger along side with the North Pole Express Train, pulled by the restored vintage Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 "Northern" Steamer #261, which was sponsored in part by BNSF Railway. It was a foggy night so some of the video isn't very clear. MERRY CHRISTMAS Everyone! April 22, 2013 was an important day in Marion railroad history. On this day the signal cutover was initialized. Old Conrail tri-light, N&W; position light and C&O; color light signals were covered over with tarps, and brand new 'SafeTrans' signals were turned on and tested. This didn't stop trains from running however. Each train had to stop and be "walked by" the work area. This setup produced interesting results with NS trains 'racing' each-other and multiple trains working across the interlocking at once. Union Depot shaped a city, connected people to places and faced a decline. In December 2012, this majestic Beaux Arts train station now serves as a multimodal transportation hub, community gathering space and event center. Take a peek inside!
I, Jake Schoeder, video recorded the blowing of the Titanic's whistles on February 1999 at Union Depot, St. Paul, MN. First whistle blowing is at the very beginning and the second blowing is at 1:32 in this video. jakeschoeder@gmail.com (from The Free Library by Farlex) Thousands of people standing in the streets of St Paul, Minnesota, responded with cheers, applause and whistles after the ten-second blasts, which sounded about two minutes apart. The free whistle-blowing ceremony was held outside the old Union Depot in St. Paul, MN, where other artifacts from the Titanic are on display. Police estimated the crowd on the cold but sunny afternoon to be between 80,000 and 100,000 - much higher than the 2,000 to 3,000 organisers had predicted. http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Titanic%27s+w...

Recorded before tear-down on May 7. If you don't enjoy some bell and horn exercise, this probably isn't your video. The engineer seemed to be making a point about noise.
June 23, 2014: Departing from the new St. Paul Union Depot to make its daily run down along the Mississippi, the 8+ hour late Amtrak Empire Builder goes another hour down through the sea of trains in the yard trying getting out of St. Paul due to freight traffic. Most of the delay is caused by a CP Hopper train entering the yard and finding that it doesn't fit and has to stop leaving its tail end blocking Amtrak's path. Running a little late to the "Rail View Lounge" after being sent to the wrong sleeper car (I was told to board the 830 car at the head end, not the 2830 car at the tail where I was supposed to be), we're not able to get video from the platform itself. After a few minor adjustments to the window mount, we're ready for our run down along the river to La Crosse, WI.
Happy National train Day All! I headed up to St. Paul Union Depot to see the displays and model layouts. Outside included the locomotives Amtrak Veterans Heritage Unit #42, Union Pacific SD70AHs (or SD70ACes) #8893 & #9041, MNTX/BN SDP40 #325, from the Minnesota Transportation Museum, and Twin Cities & Western GP38-2 #2010. After that, i head down to Newport, hoping to catch some busy action (which didn't turn out). on the way down, I saw a WB BNSF train with NS 9748 & AC44C6M 4055 for power. NS 4055 is my first AC44C6M! We reach Newport, and i see a stopped CP Grain. We make it over to where the videos were taken, just in time! They started reversing into Pig's Eye Yard. They block a BNSF intermodal/autorack train, which was very short. After the CP grain cleared, it came back, but it sto...
Why are there so many places in America called "Union Station"? Because they are the union point of multiple rail companies that come together at major intersections so travelers can connect from one rail line to the next. This is the historic Washington DC Union Station one of the busiest rail hubs in America! Though not quite as exciting as last year's National Train Day, the 2014 National Train Day events at St. Paul Union Depot were a great treat! This year, instead of Duluth, we go to St. Paul and visit Union Depot for events, and there were plenty of surprises around! Including Great Northern SD45 #400 (Hustle Muscle), Amtrak 8 Empire Builder, Ken Buehler from the Lake Superior Railroad Museum/North Shore Scenic Railroad, and Choo-Choo Bob! Union Depot is a beautiful building/station and pictures and video don't do justice to how magnificent the building is in person, truly a work of art! $243 million renovation is expected to generate 3,000 new jobs and will transform the depot into state-of-the-art transportation, retail and community hub.

UP 844 has been in continuous service on Union Pacific since it was built in 1944, perhaps the only steam locomotive never removed from service and still operating on its original railroad. Now totally rebuilt, it's amazing!! ********************************************************************* We followed to locomotive through Idaho on "shake down" runs testing the rebuild completed in 2016. Rain and mist made for some spectacular images of steam in the mist. We also stent the night at Lava Hot Springs, to "take the waters" in this awesome old hotel and resort from 1911. This was 844’s first real trip after a break-in run in the Cheyenne-Colorado area last fall. They took the locomotive through Wyoming, Idaho and Utah in April of 2017 with a string of service cars and two passenger ca...
