Tyler McVey (February 14, 1912 – July 4, 2003) was an American character actor of film and television.
His first screen role, uncredited, came at the age of 39 in 1951, when he portrayed Brady in the The Day the Earth Stood Still. He was uncredited in two 1953 military films, From Here to Eternity as Major Stern and in Mission over Korea as Colonel Colton.
He made one of his first television appearances in a 1953 episode of Four Star Playhouse. During the 1950s, McVey guest starred in episodes of The Restless Gun, Dragnet, The Lone Ranger, I Love Lucy, Tales of Wells Fargo, Sheriff of Cochise, Colt .45 (as Col. Ben Williams in the 1960 episode "Absent Without Leave"), Bourbon Street Beat, Hallmark Hall of Fame, My Friend Flicka, Highway Patrol, It's a Great Life, Annie Oakley, and The Man and the Challenge. From 1953 to 1956, he guest starred on the CBS educational series You Are There, narrated by Walter Cronkite.
From 1959 to 1960, McVey portrayed Major General Norgath in the CBS series Men into Space. In 1964, McVey was cast as General Hardesty in the political thriller film Seven Days in May. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, McVey continued guest starring in episodic television, including roles on National Velvet, The Rebel, The Everglades, Bat Masterson, Death Valley Days, Checkmate, Redigo, Ripcord, The Wild, Wild West, The F.B.I., Bonanza, Ironside, Ellery Queen, and Eight Is Enough. His last roles were in 1985 and 1986 as different ministers in two episodes of Highway to Heaven.
The Whistler is an American radio mystery drama which ran from May 16, 1942, until September 22, 1955, on the west-coast regional CBS radio network. The show was also broadcast in Chicago and over Armed Forces Radio. On the west coast, it was sponsored by the Signal Oil Company: "That whistle is your signal for the Signal Oil program, The Whistler." There were also two short-lived attempts to form east-coast broadcast spurs: July 3 to September 25, 1946, sponsored by the Campbell Soup Company; and March 26, 1947, to September 29, 1948, sponsored by Household Finance. The program was also adapted into a film noir series by Columbia Pictures in 1944.
Each episode of The Whistler began with the sound of footsteps and a person whistling. (The Saint radio series with Vincent Price used a similar opening.) The haunting signature theme tune was composed by Wilbur Hatch and featured Dorothy Roberts whistling with an orchestra.
A character known only as the Whistler was the host and narrator of the tales, which focused on crime and fate. He often commented directly upon the action in the manner of a Greek chorus, taunting the characters, guilty or innocent, from an omniscient perspective. The stories followed a formula in which a person's criminal acts were typically undone either by an overlooked but important detail or by the criminal's own stupidity. An ironic ending, often grim, was a key feature of each episode. But on rare occasions, the plot's twist of fate caused the story to end happily for the protagonist.
Ellen Miriam Hopkins (October 18, 1902 – October 9, 1972) was an American film and TV actress known for her versatility. She first signed with Paramount in 1930, working with Ernst Lubitsch and Joel McCrea, among many others. Her long-running feud with Bette Davis was publicised for effect. Later she became a pioneer of TV drama. Hopkins was a distinguished Hollywood hostess, who moved in intellectual and creative circles.
Hopkins was born in Savannah, Georgia, and raised in Bainbridge, near the Alabama border. In 1909 she briefly lived in Mexico. After her parents separated, she moved as a teen with her mother to Syracuse, New York, to be near her uncle, Thomas Cramer Hopkins, head of the Geology Department at Syracuse University.
She attended Goddard Seminary in Barre, Vermont (which later became Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont) and Syracuse University (in New York). She became estranged from her father, and when at the age of 19 she applied for a passport in 1922 in preparation for a theatrical tour of South America, she listed his address as "unknown."
Men Into Space is an American black-and-white science fiction television series, produced by Ziv Television Programs, Inc., that was broadcast from September 30, 1959 to September 7, 1960 by CBS. The syndicated series depicts future efforts by the United States Air Force to explore and develop outer space. The series' star, William Lundigan, played Col. Edward McCauley.
Men Into Space was not set in a specified era, but clues dropped in the scripts indicated that it took place between the mid-1970s and mid-1980s, with the first Moon landing happening somewhere around 1975. Props were occasionally futuristic (such as a forerunner of today's real-life LCD TVs), but the show's Earthly clothing and environs, including automobiles, telephones, and other machines, were decidedly 1950s.
Men Into Space was somewhat unusual for a TV action series in that it had numerous recurring characters, but only one protagonist, Col. Edward McCauley (William Lundigan), who was in all of the 38 series' episodes. Tyler McVey appeared in seven episodes as Major General Norgath. Ron Foster appeared five times as Lieutenant Neil Templeton.

The best way to described the economically assembled religious picture Day of Triumph is "sincere". Though the film details the Last Days of Jesus Christ (Robert Wilson), top billing is bestowed upon Lee J. Cobb as Zadok, leader of the Zealots. The all-character-actor cast includes James Griffith as Judas, Tyler McVey as Peter, Lowell Gilmore as Pilate and veteran western heavy Anthony Warde as Barabbas. The biggest "name" in the cast is Joanne Dru as Mary Magdalene, while relative newcomer Touch (later Mike) Connors appears as Andrew. The film was the last directed by Irving Pichel, who'd previously helmed the independently produced religious drama Martin Luther.

Vera Miles plays the daughter of a man accused of an unspeakable act. Hitchcock tells a powerful story of the devastating effects of gossip in a small town. Through his most elaborate and ambitious work for television, Hitchcock sensitively shows the cancerous effects, the pain, and tension arising from false accusation. The show was known as either Ford Startime—TV's Finest Hour or Lincoln/Mercury Startime, depending on which division of the Ford Motor Company was presenting commercials within that show. This Western featured movie star, Guy Madison as the lead, ably assisted by veteran character actor, Andy Devine as his sidekick Jingles. Both remained with the series for it's entire run. After the last show in December 1954 it went into syndication from July 1955 until Feb 1956. Guy Madison and Andy Devine were extremely busy during this time. In addition to the radio series they also appeared in 113 half hour TV Wild Bill Hickok shows between 1951 and 1958. Unlike most series that made the transition from radio to TV, The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok TV Show kept the same cast as the radio show. The TV version began as a syndicated one; it was picked up by CBS-TV and viewed from 1955-1958 and on ABC-TV from 1957 to 1958 in the day time or late afternoon. Other regular cast members i...
