The Nomadic Nenets Of Russia
The Nenets call themselves "the children of the reindeer." They number fewer than 50,000. In Russia's hostile tundra conditions, their lives are much as they were hundreds of years ago.

Reindeer Ritual - Raw meat shared by family of Nenet Herders
Part 2 to our series about the ritual aspects of the Nenets of Northern Siberia. This is an educational video showing an ancient and sacred aspect of traditional life among the reindeer herders of northern Siberia. The reindeer (caribou) is everything to them, they herd them, and in the past they were a very important part of their shamanic tradition. The reindeer can survive in the harshest of climates, find its food under two fees (0.5m) of snow, and keeps the herders and their families alive when there is no other food available. In the far north of the region there is no firewood for cooking. Everything freezes solid within minutes. Warm fresh food is therefore a treat.

The Daily life of Nenets Indigenous women in the Siberian Arctic
The Nenets people are nomadic reindeer herders in North-West Siberia. They heavily depend on their herds for food, clothes, transport and shelter and have migrated for over 1000 years across their ancestral homelands. Currently the entire region and its inhabitants are under serious threat from climate change as temperatures are on a steep rise and Russia’s ancient permafrost is melting.

Life of Nenets indigenous people in the Frozen Tundra | @DOCUHUB
The Nenets are indigenous people who still live as their nomadic ancestors did centuries ago. To this day, they are constantly herding reindeer across the vast frozen Arctic tundra. Children follow their parents from birth, learning everything about life in the tundra. But from autumn to spring, they live at boarding schools to get an education in towns, just like other children.

While some Nenets children become accustomed to comfortable urban life, others miss home so much they run away and go back to their families on foot. The separation is also difficult for many parents, and some would prefer to have their kids nearby.
