Equal and Accessible Services

This new Abraham Fund initiative works with government agencies, businesses and civil society organizations to advance the provision of equal and accessible services as we aim to narrow the gaps that divide Israel’s Arab and Jewish communities, while strengthening the foundation for a just and inclusive society.

Mandatory Arabic study for 5th and 6th grades in Jewish schools

The Ministry of Education just announced that spoken Arabic will become a mandatory subject for Grades 5 and 6 throughout Israel, starting next year. This follows 12 years of The Abraham Fund's work in the field, bringing spoken Arabic classes to 24,000 students a year. We applaud the Ministry's decision and believe that it has the potential to be the beginning of a revolution in Arabic education for Jewish students. Read our press release here.

Fostering Jewish-Arab Multiculturalism through Staff Trainings at Hebrew University

The Abraham Fund, in partnership with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, today began operating a pilot program which, for the first time, trains University staff to provide culturally attuned services, fostering a multicultural Jewish-Arab campus.
The pilot program will bring the course to 20 members of administrative staff and a summer course for 20 members of the University’s security staff.

Economic Development and Employment

The Abraham Fund’s Sharikat Haya jobs program was created to address the massive unemployment of Israeli Arab women. Five successful years later, our model is going national through a new government-funded effort to train and place Arab women in their first-ever jobs – good for Arab women and good for the Israeli economy.

Public Education, Advocacy and Government Relations

The Abraham Fund’s reputation – within government, civil society and the media – as a valued partner and resource in the field of Jewish-Arab relations positions us as one of a handful of shared Jewish-Arab NGOs with trusted access to both Israel's Arab leadership and government officials.

Education for a Shared Society

The Abraham Fund’s groundbreaking coexistence education programs already reach 25,000 Jewish and Arab elementary school children throughout Israel – a stepping stone toward our goal of requiring that every Israeli youngster learn the language and culture of their neighbor as we build a foundation for peace.

Emerging Leaders

Wanting to see more women and young adults in leadership roles within their communities and Israeli society at large were among the encouraging findings of a recent Abraham Fund study of Arab voter attitudes. Pilot programs now underway will chart the course for a multi-year investment in training next-gen Israeli Arab leaders.

Policing in a Divided Society

The Abraham Fund’s work with the Israel Police has resulted in significant changes in policing policies and practices informed by international learning. Government's recognition of its failure to provide appropriate police services to the Arab community underscores the need for our continuing efforts to improve relations between the police and Arab society.
