Forever Young (Alphaville song)

"Forever Young" is a power ballad from German rock group Alphaville's 1984 debut album of the same name. The single was a strong hit in Scandinavia and in the European German-speaking countries in the same year.

Although it was not the group's highest-charting European hit, and it failed to reach the American Top 40 despite three separate U.S. single releases, "Forever Young" has subsequently been covered by numerous artists.

Background and video

Originally released by Alphaville as a single in 1984, "Forever Young" was available in both its original mix and also in a dance version titled the "Special Dance Mix." Over the years the band has released several remixes and demo versions of the song.

The single reached the number 65 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the top 40 on the U.S. Hot Dance Music/ Club Play Singles in 1985.

The song's music video shows the band performing in one of the halls at Holloway Sanatorium in Virginia Water, Surrey, England. A number of ragged people ranging from children to the elderly awake to observe the band, then walk through a diamond-shaped glowing portal.

"Zu spät" (German for too late) is a punk song by Die Ärzte. It was the eleventh track and the second single from their 1984 album Debil.

It's a humorous song about jealousy and revenge. The narrator is devastated over his love interest's preference of a wealthier rival and compares their capabilities of entertaining the girl throughout the song, while fantasizing that he will be a star someday and will then reject her, when she'll come crawling back.

The live medley

"Live - Zu spät..." (1988) is a single for the medley "Zu spät (Hit Summer Mix '88)" (on the album just "Medley") from their 1988 album Live - Nach uns die Sintflut. The medley is composed of many covers, but most of it is the song "Zu spät", which actually ends the medley too (after "Blueprint").

Wolfgang Ambros (born March 19, 1952, in Wolfsgraben, Niederösterreich) is an Austrian singer-songwriter, most famously known for setting the then-new trend in the 1970s known now as Austropop. He is most famous for his song "Da Hofa" and "Schifoan".

Biography

His most famous songs are "Schifoan", "Es lebe der Zentralfriedhof" and "Zwickt's mi". "Schifoan" is like an anthem for the Austrian ski tourism and industry. Many Austrian skiers—but also many others—know the lyrics of this song.

His musical styles are pop-rock and sometimes blues-elements. His first LP Es lebe der Zentralfriedhof was very controversial, because many critics accused him of copying and plagiarizing Georg Danzer.

Ambros also released 3 cover albums (including songs by Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Hans Moser. His latest album Steh grod (2006) is very successful.

Cooperations

Since 1978 Ambros has cooperated with the duo Tauchen/Prokopetz, who were very successful with DÖF in the 1980s. Also since 1978 Ambros has sung at live concerts with his band No. 1 vom Wienerwald.
