Our nation's men and women of the military forces have defended our country, insured our freedom, and upheld the beliefs and principles that this great nation was built on. On May 21st, 2016, the City of Torrance continued its long-standing tradition in its 57th consecutive year of hosting an Armed Forces Day Celebration and Parade to honor the sacrifices of our nation's military.
This year, the City once again honored the men and women of our nation's military with a three-day celebration that began on Friday, May 20th, and continued through Sunday, May 22nd. The Parade highlight was on Saturday, May 21st, and the honored branch was the United States Army. The City of Torrance is proud to help honor and thank the men and women of our nation's Armed Forces!

Armed forces
The armed forces of a country are its government-sponsored defense, fighting forces, and organizations. They exist to further the foreign and domestic policies of their governing body and to defend that body and the nation it represents from external and internal aggressors. In broad usage, the terms "armed forces" and "military" are often treated synonymously, although in technical usage a distinction is sometimes made in which a country's armed forces may include both its military and other paramilitary forces. Armed force is the use of armed forces to achieve political objectives.
The study of the use of armed forces is called military science. Broadly speaking, this involves considering offense and defense at three "levels": strategy, operational art, and tactics. All three levels study the application of the use of force in order to achieve a desired objective.
Organization
In most countries the basis of the armed forces is the military, divided into basic military branches. However, armed forces can include other paramilitary structures.

5190 May 21st. (Start film) Ideal weather, coupled with the advent of Armed Forces Day sent crowds thronging to the Air Force Radar Station atop Apple Orchard Mountain. (Show film) The Radar towers atop the mountain serve to lure visitors to this installation each year, and today was no different. In the air-to-ground communications building visitors are shown the methods used in aircraft and air controllers on the ground. Inside the installation, theres even a model of the set up which was built by a model railroad enthusiast. Shuttle buses ran continuously today bringing visitors from the lower level up to the radar site. Also, concession stands were set up for the hungry or thirsty visitor. The Radar towers atop the mountain serve to lure visitors to this installation each year, and today was no different. In the air-to-ground communications building visitors are shown the methods used in aircraft and air controllers on the ground. Inside the installation, theres even a model of the set up which was built by a model railroad enthusiast. Shuttle buses ran continuously today bringing visitors from the lower level up to the radar site. Also, concession stands were set up for the hungry or thirsty visitor. The location is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway about 19 miles from Bedford. Here the visitor not only enjoys some spectacular scenery, he learns much about the importance of such installations to the security of our country.
