Do you love to travel? A passion for new places is a must for any travel agent! This job involves advising customers on business and leisure travel options, and selling them the trips that are right for them. You may be working in a high street agency or in a call centre for this role. Usually working within a team, you will help individuals to plan and book their trips, be it for a honeymoon, family holiday or business trip.
A travel agent's role is a busy and varied one, and ideally you'll need to have experience travelling or learning about new places in order to succeed. On-the-job training is usually offered, and there's often a good scope for progression. If you love going abroad and want to share your knowledge, this could be the job for you.
This role is customer-focused, and a large part will be talking to customers about their needs. You will check and make bookings, collect deposits, contact customers when their tickets arrive, and inform them of any changes. You will also be providing a wealth of information regarding destinations and accommodation options and offer advice regarding visas, travel insurance and vaccinations.
Travel agents are kept busy, and you'll need to be able to think on your feet to keep up with multiple deadlines in this role. There may often be last minute changes to deal with, and you'll need to be organised and diplomatic. You'll also need excellent customer service skills, a thirst for knowledge, and the ability to work well as part of a team. A knowledge of travel and geography would be a distinct advantage.
