James Neville Mason (15 May 1909 – 27 July 1984) was an English actor.
After achieving much success in the United Kingdom (he was the top box office attraction there in 1944 and 1945), he made the transition to the United States and became one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, starring in iconic films including: The Desert Fox, A Star Is Born, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Lolita, North by Northwest, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Bigger Than Life, Julius Caesar, Georgy Girl, The Deadly Affair, Heaven Can Wait, The Boys from Brazil, The Verdict, Mandingo, Murder by Decree and Salem's Lot.
He was nominated for three Academy Awards and three Golden Globes (winning the Golden Globe in 1955 for A Star is Born).
Mason was born in Huddersfield, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, to Mabel Hattersley (Gaunt) and John Mason. His father was a wealthy textile merchant. He was educated at Marlborough College, and earned a first in architecture at Peterhouse, Cambridge where he became involved in stock theatre companies in his spare time. Mason had no formal training as an actor and initially embarked upon it for fun. After Cambridge he made his stage debut in Aldershot in The Rascal in 1931. He joined The Old Vic theatre in London under the guidance of Tyrone Guthrie. In 1933 Alexander Korda gave Mason a small role in The Private Life of Don Juan but sacked him three days into shooting.

Plot: It's Christmas Eve, and a snowstorm is blowing through the small town of Summit View. The roads are virtually empty, except for a group of vehicles that get stuck on a remote road on the outskirts of town. The seven people involved decide to take refuge in a nearby abandoned church. Those seven are: James, an ex-priest who is running away from his life and his vocation following the death of his wife and child; Darryl, an EMT who dreams of becoming a doctor, but who believes that dream will never materialize because of his dyslexia; wealthy married couple Drake and Madeleine, whose marriage and its problems are centered on money; newlyweds Nick and Christy, who find that they are arguing more and more ever since their wedding three days ago; and the only local among the bunch, Joe, who is separated from his wife Mary, largely because of their differing views of how to manage their family, most specifically in dealing with their autistic son, Matt. They are eventually joined by an eighth, Mary, who comes to provide some food and blankets to the stranded seven, but whose SUV also gets stuck by the church. As the eight interact with each other, they find that the true Christmas spirit comes to the surface which assists each with their own life problems, especially as they work together toward a common goal to help specifically Mary and Joe.

James Mason - "The Dance Of Life" Cat. no: RH RSS 17 Format: 12" http://bit.ly/TheDanceOfLife Over three decades after "Rhythm Of Life", James Mason rediscovered tapes with more recordings from the same late seventies period. “The Dance Of Life” (ft. Bernard Purdie on drums and Fonda Rae on backing vocals) and “Up Jump” are the first two tracks taken from the "Recollection Echo" album that Rush Hour are very proud to release on vinyl. James Mason only made one album, that got acclaim years after its release. “Rhythm Of Life” became a soul-jazz cult classic, recorded in around 1978/79 with musicians such as Narada Michael Walden and Gene Torres, and featuring Clarice Taylor’s beautiful, characteristic vocals. Elyesa Bazna was an Albanian from Kosovo who spied for the Germans during the Second World War, and was widely known by his code name Cicero. Elyesa Bazna was a famous World War II secret agent. Principally motivated by a feeling of power, he sold information to the Germans through their attaché Ludwig Carl Moyzisch, in Turkey Ankara in what became known as the Cicero affair. The information that he leaked is believed to have been potentially among the more damaging disclosures made by a Second World War spy but conflicts inside the highest echelons of the German government meant that little if any of it was acted upon. 1953 Golden Globes: Best Screenplay 1953 Edgar Allan Poe Awards: Best Film Mankiewicz's Oscar-winning director, II. Full-Length Interview with James Mason that was originally conducted by AMOK. "When he was 14 years old he began communicating with George Lincoln Rockwell's American Nazi Party and became a youth member until his 18th birthday when he was sworn into the renamed National Socialist White People's Party. In the 1970s he was involved with the National Socialist Liberation Front. He later went on to form the Universal Order." "He edited, wrote, and published a newsletter titled SIEGE throughout the early to mid 1980s. Its contents were edited and published by Michael Moynihan as Siege: The Collected Writings of James Mason. He advocated leaderless resistance, calling for autonomous action by individuals rather than an authoritarian hierarchical organization.["

John Gielgud disliked making movies in his early career, preferring to act Shakespeare and other great roles on the stage. However, in his later life he often took small roles that amounted to cameo parts in such films as '11 Harrowhouse' where he plays the head of the Diamond Exchange in London. Here a disgruntled employee (James Mason) who knows he is dying of cancer, conceals himself in the vault overnight so to as to assist an American burglar (Charles Grodin) in stealing the entire stock of diamonds. In this scene (which also features Jack Watling, Peter Vaughan and Jack Watson) Gielgud discovers that all his diamonds are missing.
