The Social (Canadian TV series)

The Social is a Canadian daytime television talk show, which airs weekday afternoons on CTV and CTV Two. Using a panel format similar to American talk shows such as The View or The Talk, the show is hosted by Melissa Grelo, Lainey Lui, Cynthia Loyst and Traci Melchor.

The series covers news, lifestyle and entertainment topics, and places a strong emphasis on direct and live interaction with viewers through social media.

Grelo took a maternity leave from the program in spring 2014. A series of celebrity guest hosts appeared during her absence, including Jann Arden, Marilyn Denis, Wendy Crewson, Elisha Cuthbert, Arlene Dickinson, Arielle Kebbel, Emily Procter, Sarah Rafferty and Debbie Travis.

The Social films in front of a live audience on weekdays in Toronto, Ontario. Audience members must be at least 18 years old to attend the taping.

International broadcasts

The series began airing in syndication in the United States through PPI Releasing and Sony Pictures Television via selective markets since September 2015, although a few stations had started airing the show during a test run prior to the push to expand it in more American television markets. It had been targeted for a soft 2014 US launch but was held back in order to give the show enough time to find its footing.

Craig Doyle Live

Craig Doyle is an Irish weekly topical comedy-style chat show which aired from November 2011 as The Social until 2012, and was shown on RTÉ Two. Portrayed as live programme, some episodes were recorded in advance and broadcast at a later date.

Format as The Social

The show was presented by Craig Doyle with guests discussing latest topical news interspersed with news on the latest events on social media such as Twitter and Facebook. It was Doyle's second attempt at a chat show with RTÉ, following 2010's ill-fated Saturday night effort Tonight with Craig Doyle.

"No topic is out of bounds" was the billing before the first episode was broadcast. Doyle and three showbiz guests discussed topics such as soccer-victory-night sex and phone apps that alert men to women's menstrual cycles allowing the male, where applicable, to "steer clear" of the woman or find out "whether she's feeling randy".

The new series failed to attract an audience for RTÉ Two, with both critics and audiences unimpressed. "The Afternoon Show seemed dangerously cutting-edge by comparison", said The Irish Times.

Chance the Rapper

Chancelor Bennett (born April 16, 1993), better known by his stage name Chance the Rapper, is an American hip hop recording artist from the West Chatham neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. In 2013, he began to gain major recognition following the release of his second mixtape, Acid Rap. Chance is also a member of the Chicago collective SAVEMONEY with frequent collaborator Vic Mensa, and lead vocalist for the band The Social Experiment.

Life and career

1993–2010: Early life

Chance grew up as the oldest brother in the middle-class neighborhood of West Chatham in Chicago's South Side, his younger brother Taylor Bennett is also an aspiring young rapper. His father, Ken Williams-Bennett, was a prominent presence in the city: He first served as an aide to former Chicago mayor Harold Washington and then worked for Barack Obama, who was a senator at the time. Williams-Bennett, who is now a deputy chief of staff to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, dreamed that his son might one day hold office.
