Tom Ashbrook is an American journalist and radio broadcaster. He hosts the nationally syndicated, public radio call-in program On Point.
Born in 1956 on a farm in Bloomington, Illinois, he studied American history at Yale University and Gandhi's independence movement at Andhra University in India.
Ashbrook worked in Alaska as a surveyor and dynamiter of oil fields to help pay for college. After leaving for Asia, he produced English-dubbed kung fu films in Hong Kong where he spent a decade as a foreign correspondent in India, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. His first newspaper job was at the South China Morning Post. During the late 1980s Ashbrook became foreign editor for The Boston Globe.
As a correspondent Ashbrook covered the "refugee exodus from Vietnam and the post-Mao opening of China, and has covered turmoil and shifting cultural and economic trends in the United States and around the world, from Somalia and Rwanda to Russia and the Balkans."
Ashbrook High School is a public high school in the Gaston County Schools public school district located in Gastonia, NC. The school was the result of the merger of two former senior high schools, Holbrook Senior High and Ashley Senior High. The first class graduated in 1971. Its attendance range covers most of the central and eastern portions of the City of Gastonia, as well as the towns of Ranlo and Lowell, and the community of Springdale.
The school's most famous alumnus is retired basketball player James Worthy, player for the 1982 NCAA National Champion University of North Carolina and the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA. Other notable alumni include MLB baseball player Wes Helms and NBA veteran Darrell Armstrong of the New Jersey Nets.
Joey Clinton serves as principal. Assistant principals are Laura Costner, Charlotte Friday, Michael Hewitt, and A.T. Pearson.
Ashbrook High School last won the North Carolina State Football Championship in 2002 as well as the Baseball State Championship in 2003. The current Athletic Director is Jake Eccles. Ashbrook usually goes head-to-head with Hunter Huss High School in sports. In football, Ashbrook and Huss play for the Victory Bell on the last game of the season, which is dubbed the "Battle for the Bell." Also, Ashbrook's men's soccer team had a 49 and 0 running conference record over 4 years and in 2015 won the Gazette cup over Gaston Christian. In 2015, the Ashbrook men's basketball team made it to the 3A state championship basketball game, but lost to Terry Sanford 67-60 at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill.
A high school (also secondary school, senior school, secondary college) is a school that provides adolescents with part or all of their secondary education. It may come after primary school or middle school and be followed by higher education or vocational training.
The term "high school" originated in Scotland, with the world's oldest high school being Edinburgh's Royal High School from 1505. The Royal High School was used as a model for the first public high school in the United States, Boston Latin School founded in Boston, Massachusetts.
The precise stage of schooling provided by a high school differs from country to country, and may vary within the same jurisdiction. In all of New Zealand and Malaysia, along with most of Britain and parts of Australia, Bangladesh and Canada, high school means the same thing as secondary school, but instead of starting in 9th grade, these "secondary schools" begin at ages 11 or 12.
In Australia, high school is a secondary school, from Year 7 or Year 8 through to Year 12, varying from state to state. High school immediately follows primary (elementary) school; therefore, a Year-7 Australian high-school student is sometimes as young as 12. In Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory, the term "high school" generally refers to Years 7–10, whereas the term "College" is used for Years 11–12. In Victoria the term "secondary college" has largely replaced the term "high school" following the reforms of the Labor Government in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Some schools have retained the name "high school" (such as Melbourne High School) and many have now dropped the "secondary" and are simply known as "college".

Walkin' with you down through Echo Park
The ghosts fillin' the trees
The fire never understands the spark
The way it is with you and me
Freedom
Freedom
Our love won't fade away
Freedom
Freedom
Our love it won't fade away
The children runnin' through the greenest field
The light of love pourin' down
And only you and I know how it feels
When no one else is around
Freedom
Freedom
Our love won't fade away
Freedom
Freedom
Our love it won't fade away
Freedom
