Hilarious: Watch Jennifer Garner read "Go the F**k to Sleep"

Jo Harris |

Parents the world over understand how hard bedtime can be. Sometimes you just want to lose it. Don’t – let Jennifer Garner do that for you.

If you’ve never read the caustic ‘children’s bedtime book for adults’ Go the F**k to Sleep, you really need to. Or you can watch Jennifer Garner reading it – she has joined a growing club of famous fans who have read the manuscript aloud, in what we can only assume is a bid to keep parents sane the world over.

A genius book on the hardships of bedtime

The book is the 2011 brainchild of author Adam Mansbach, and was inspired by his own sleep-avoidant daughter, Vivien, who at two years old would take hours to get to sleep. At one time it held the top spot on Amazon’s bestsellers list and it has been translated into an impressive 40 languages.

It starts off as sweetly as any bedtime story, but quickly turns into a profane and uber-funny story about the trials and tribulations of bedtime in a house ruled by little people.

The cats nestle close to their kittens,
The lambs have laid down with the sheep.
You’re cosy and warm in your bed, my dear.
Please go the f**k to sleep.

The windows are dark in the town, child.
The whales huddle down in the deep.
I’ll read you one very last book if you swear
You’ll go the f**k to sleep.

The eagles who soar through the sky are at rest
And the creatures who crawl, run, and creep.
I know you’re not thirsty. That’s bullsh*t. Stop lying.
Lie the f**k down, my darling, and sleep.

Celebs weigh in …

Now Jennifer Garner has made her own video reading of the book, and it has got parents shouting yaaaaaaaaaas!

Garner made the video for Vanity Fair – she stars on their March cover. It has been on YouTube for just one day, and with Garner’s sultry tones and her bubbly spirit, it’s sure to set the internet ablaze.

It’s not the first time a celeb has done a reading of this book. Samuel L. Jackson and our own Noni Hazelhurst have both made hilarious video readings of this book.

Word on the street is that a feature film based on this book is on it’s way – Jennifer Garner, clear your schedule.
