The combination of En Gedi's location and its fresh water sources allow a wide variety of plant and animal species to thrive side by side. Among the mammals in En Gedi are herds of ibex and groups of hyrax. Nocturnal animals include foxes, wolves, hyenas, and even the occasional spotted leopard.

Gedi
Gede (also known as Gedi) is a village on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya, lying in Kilifi County, south of Malindi and north of Watamu. The Ruins of Gedi are located there. Although not thought to be mentioned in historic sources, extensive ruins of a former port have been dated to the thirteenth century or earlier, including a tomb with a date corresponding to 1399, until at least the seventeenth century. Later, the port was abandoned and not rediscovered until the 1920s.
The buildings are of coral, earth and plaster, some with designs inscribed. They include a mosque, palace, houses and tombs as well as a fort. The style is classified as Swahili architecture.
The modern village is home to a museum and a butterfly house.
Gede was part of the Malindi District (until it was eliminated in 2010) and it has an urban population of 600

Driftwood VLOG Israel This year we visited Israel to attend a wedding of a friend I met travelling and since Quentin hadn’t seen this beautiful country we wanted to explore Israel. After landing at Tel Aviv we drove to Jerusalem where we found fairly cheap accomodation: The Abraham Hostel. Backpacking in Israel is a very easy , but prices are more or less like in Europe. We paid 270 Schekel, about 60 Euros, per night for a private room but it was central, clean and had friendly staff. The best way to experience Jerusalem if you don't have a lot of time is by booking a tour. So we booked a tour via the hostel to see the ruins of Masada, the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve and the Dead Sea. Ein Gedi is an oasis in Israel, located west of the Dead Sea, near Masada and the Qumran Caves. In the 2 Chronicles 20:2 it is identified with Hazazon-tamar, where the Moabites and Ammonites gathered in order to fight Josaphat. In Genesis 14:7 Hazazon-tamar is mentioned as being an Amorite city, smitten by Chedorlaomer in his war against the cities of the plain. Driftwood VLOG Israel
This year we visited Israel to attend a wedding of a friend I met travelling and since Quentin hadn’t seen this beautiful country we wanted to explore Israel.
After landing at Tel Aviv we drove to Jerusalem where we found fairly cheap accomodation: The Abraham Hostel. Backpacking in Israel is a very easy , but prices are more or less like in Europe. We paid 270 Schekel, about 60 Euros, per night for a private room but it was central, clean and had friendly staff.
The best way to experience Jerusalem if you don't have a lot of time is by booking a tour.
So we booked a tour via the hostel to see the ruins of Masada, the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve and the Dead Sea. The tour takes you to all 3 locations on the same day and costs 280NIS, which is about 65 Euros
The schedule of the days:
07:00 - Pick up from Abraham Hostel-Davidka Square
07:15 - Pick up from Carta Parking Lot (near Jaffa Gate)
09:00 - Arrive at Masada. Cable-car up the mountain
11:00 - Hike through Ein Gedi Nature Reserve
13:00 - Relax at the Dead Sea
16:00 - Arrive back in Jerusalem
The tour also included a guide: Alon. He is a very friendly and interesting person, as you can see in the video, and answered all our questions patiently.
At the first location, Masada, we took the cable car to the top of the mountain. Here it is really hot (above 40 degress) and it’s not recommended to walk up if you have any health issues. The view from the top was great though. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to explore every little inch, but it was still impressive and a important sight in Israel.
Masada was quiet and peaceful but after arriving at Ein Gedi we were greeted with crowds of school children on excursions. This made it hard to relax. But after arriving at the Dead Sea we could let go of all the tension and float in the salty waters. An intense Mud bath is a Must-Do.
Thanks to Alon this was a really great day, where we learned a lot about the country. The only bad thing was that it was a little rushed. But that didn’t stop us going on another tour to the westbank the next day…

Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Later, King David hides in the desert of Ein Gedi (1 Samuel 24:1-2) and King Saul seeks him "even upon the most craggy rocks, which are accessible only to wild goats" (1 Samuel 24:3).
