He is known for playing FBI Agent Fox Mulder on the sci-fi horror action drama show The X-Files and writer Hank Moody on the comedy-drama series Californication, both of which have earned him Golden Globe awards. Duchovny appeared in both of the two X-Files films, the 1998 science fiction-thriller of the same name and the supernatural-thriller The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008). As of May 2015, he has been executive producing and starring in the historically based cop drama Aquarius.
Duchovny has a B.A. in English Literature from Princeton University and an M.A. in English Literature from Yale University.

His father was Jewish; Duchovny's paternal grandfather was from Berdychiv, Russian Empire (now in Ukraine), and Duchovny's paternal grandmother was born in Russian Poland (now in Poland). Please enjoy this short adaptation of an excerpt from "Real Man Adventures," a new book by T Cooper (published by McSweeney's Books, December 2012). "In this mindbendingly good book, T Cooper gets to the heart of what it is to be human, by circling around questions most of us don't ever know to ask. Subtle, engaging, righteously furious and often brilliant, this book radiates infinite possibility." —Nick Flynn "Sublime confidence and spirit distinguishes this unorthodox memoir... Probing, entertaining and revealing... Infused with personality and the ballsy honesty of someone for whom becoming a man was 'the most natural thing in the world.'" —Kirkus Reviews "Sharp, hilarious, incredibly personal, and ingenuously honest." —Interview Magazine "Humorous, surprising, and heartfelt." —Publ...

The Civil War and Reconstruction (HIST 119) This lecture focuses on the process of emancipation after the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. The Proclamation, Professor Blight suggests, had four immediate effects: it made the Union army an army of emancipation; it encouraged slaves to strike against slavery; it committed the US to a policy of emancipation in the eyes of Europe; and it allowed African Americans to enlist in the Union Army. In the end, ten percent of Union soldiers would be African American. A number of factors, Professor Blight suggests, combined to influence the timing of emancipation in particular areas of the South, including geography, the nature of the slave society, and the proximity of the Union army. 00:00 - Chapter 1.
