The Chief Director for Community Savings and Investments Promotion (COMSIP) Tenneson Kalizga Gondwe has pledged to assist cooperatives in the country market their products.
He made the promise Tuesady when he was giving out cheques worth K9.6 million to different cooperatives in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kasumbu. The money is for irrigation farming.
Gondwe said a number of cooperatives that COMSIP has given out grants to are performing very well, but do not have markets for their products.
"As COMSIP we are planning of opening a shop in Lilongwe before the end of this year where all products made or produced by different cooperatives are going to be sold there to overcome this challenge," he said.
The cooperatives that received the grants for irrigating are Makota, Lowe, Phangalagome and Chideza.
Chief Director in the Ministry of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development Joseph Mwandidya commended COMSIP and community development officers in the country for teaching the communities in saving money and running small businesses.
"As a country, it's high time we sensitized the communities more on the benefits of saving and doing business in groups," he said.
Mwandidya urged the cooperatives to use the money for the intended purpose to help alleviate poverty in their homes and community at large.
Grace Chagoma from Lowe Cooperative was very thankful to COMSIP for the help saying her cooperative will do everything possible to make their area food secure through irrigation farming.
