Nursery rhyme

A nursery rhyme is a traditional poem or song for young children in Britain and many other countries, but usage only dates from the late 18th /early 19th century. In North America the term Mother Goose Rhymes, introduced in the mid-18th century, is still often used.

History

Lullabies

The oldest children's songs of which we have records are lullabies, intended to help a child sleep. Lullabies can be found in every human culture. The English term lullaby is thought to come from "lu, lu" or "la la" sound made by mothers or nurses to calm children, and "by by" or "bye bye", either another lulling sound, or a term for good night. Until the modern era lullabies were usually only recorded incidentally in written sources. The Roman nurses' lullaby, "Lalla, Lalla, Lalla, aut dormi, aut lacta", is recorded in a scholium on Persius and may be the oldest to survive.

Many medieval English verses associated with the birth of Jesus take the form of a lullaby, including "Lullay, my liking, my dere son, my sweting" and may be versions of contemporary lullabies. However, most of those used today date from the 17th century. For example, a well known lullaby such as "Rock-a-bye, baby on a tree top", cannot be found in records until the late-18th century when it was printed by John Newbery (c. 1765).

Teddy bear

A teddy bear is a soft toy in the form of a bear. Developed apparently simultaneously by toymakers Morris Michtom in the US and Richard Steiff in Germany in the early years of the 20th century, and named after President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, the teddy bear became an iconic children's toy, celebrated in story, song, and film. Since the creation of the first teddy bears which sought to imitate the form of real bear cubs, "teddies" have greatly varied in form, style and material. They have become collector's items, with older and rarer "teddies" appearing at public auctions. Teddy bears are among the most popular gifts for children and are often given to adults to signify love, congratulations, or sympathy.

History

The name teddy bear comes from former United States President Theodore Roosevelt, who was commonly known as "Teddy" (though he loathed being referred to as such). The name originated from an incident on a bear hunting trip in Mississippi in November 1902, to which Roosevelt was invited by Mississippi Governor Andrew H. Longino. There were several other hunters competing, and most of them had already killed an animal. A suite of Roosevelt's attendants, led by Holt Collier, cornered, clubbed, and tied an American black bear to a willow tree after a long exhausting chase with hounds. They called Roosevelt to the site and suggested that he should shoot it. He refused to shoot the bear himself, deeming this unsportsmanlike, but instructed that the bear be killed to put it out of its misery, and it became the topic of a political cartoon by Clifford Berryman in The Washington Post on November 16, 1902. While the initial cartoon of an adult black bear lassoed by a handler and a disgusted Roosevelt had symbolic overtones, later issues of that and other Berryman cartoons made the bear smaller and cuter.

Yankee Doodle

"Yankee Doodle" is a well-known Anglo-American song, the origin of which dates back to the Seven Years' War. It is often sung patriotically in the United States today and is the state anthem of Connecticut. Its Roud Folk Song Index number is 4501.

History and lyrics

Traditions place its origin in a pre-Revolutionary War song originally sung by British military officers to mock the disheveled, disorganized colonial "Yankees" with whom they served in the French and Indian War. It is believed that the tune comes from the nursery rhyme Lucy Locket. One version of the Yankee Doodle lyrics is "generally attributed" to Dr. Richard Shuckburgh, a British Army surgeon. According to one story, Dr. Shuckburgh wrote the song after seeing the appearance of Colonial troops under Colonel Thomas Fitch, V, the son of Connecticut Governor Thomas Fitch.

Etymology

The term Doodle first appeared in the early seventeenth century, and is thought to be derived from the Low German dudel, meaning “playing music badly” or Dödel, meaning "fool" or "simpleton". The Macaroni wig was an extreme fashion in the 1770s and became contemporary slang for foppishness.Dandies were young English men who adopted feminine mannerisms and highly extravagant attire, and were deemed effeminate.

Musiałam zrobić ten film, by zamknąć pewien etap. Nie chodzi tu o zapomnienie, wymazanie z pamięci czy coś takiego, bo to jest niemożliwe. Ale okres "kryzysu" po starcie dziecka zdaje się dobiegł końca. taką granicą stał się odcinek 1298. Ewa sama stwierdza, że życie toczy się dalej. Trzeba żyć, bo jest dla kogo. Nie można wiecznie żyć przeszłością, widzieć koszmar tamtego dnia. To było, nie wróci. Zostawiło bolesną bliznę, która nigdy nie zejdzie, ale pokazało nam też, jak wielką wartością jest rodzina, miłość. Marek z Ewą mieli wielką górę do przebycia, ale udało im się, pokonali ją razem. A my pokonaliśmy ją wraz z nimi. I choć na wspomnienie tego, co mogło być wylejemy jeszcze mnóstwo łez, choć za każdym razem wspominane będzie boleć tak samo, to nigdy nas to nie złamie, nigdy nie przezwycięży. Bo jesteśmy silni razem. I razem jesteśmy w stanie przetrwać wszystko. Dlatego tu w tym miejscu pragnę podziękować każdemu z osobna. Każdemu kto zwłaszcza wtedy z nami był, dawał nam to, co najcenniejsze: czas. Zwłaszcza dziękuję mojej siostrze: Natce. Nie będę wymieniać za co, ty wiesz. Bo byłaś, jesteś i mam nadzieję przy mnie będziesz. Ten film dedykuję marzeniom, których mamy przecież całą masę. Julka była naszym, moim największym marzeniem i choć dostałam ją na parę chwil, to nie żałuję. Moje marzenie się spełniło. Oczekiwałam więcej, ale niestety nie było mi dane otrzymać. Mówią, że czas leczy rany, może z tą też tak będzie. Może któregoś dnia się obudzę jedynie z uśmiechem na to wspomnienie, bo dostałam to, czego pragnęłam przez lata. Bo coś było... Dzień dzisiejszy pokazuje mi jak wiele mnie ta sytuacja nauczyła. Kiedy dostajemy szczęście chcemy go więcej i więcej. A ono jest takie kruche, tak szybko może się skończyć. Nauczyłam się kochać i doceniać to, co mam, bo to tak szybko może stać się jedynie wspomnieniem... Ta piosenka od dawna jest ze mną. Miałam ją od chwili okropnego dnia, w którym dowiedziałam się o poronieniu. Bo Julcia to nasz mały brzuszek, który zawsze pozostanie w pamięci. The E-waste Academy (EWA) is a pioneering concept in research and will foster multi-stakeholder partnerships and collaboration on e-waste policy and management, looking at the e-waste issue in its entirety, rather than through the lens of a specific discipline. Considering that e-waste poses most diverse challenges, including environmental, economic and social aspects, where all stakeholders need to participate in the development and even more the implementation of solutions, we propose to address both policymakers and government officials as well as small and medium sized companies (mostly recyclers) with an intended focus on developing/transition countries. The vision for the EWA is to be the foremost forum available for stakeholders involved in e-waste system design as well as implementing solutions to share their knowledge, interact with experts and develop collaborative partnerships fostering high long-term, sustainable solutions and approaches on all policy-related areas related ine-waste - from policy to technology to economics to social aspects. Notice that other beetles on the cover are drawn to the melee, possibly due to the release of pheromones from the beetles. Watch closely as it appears that there is a pair of beetles, possibly mating, that arrive as well. These bees are much more aggressive towards the beetles than another hive that I taped in another apiary - much more docile bees.

Police are investigating the stabbing of a teenager in Ewa Beach this afternoon. Emergency Medical Services reported that a 17-year-old boy was treated and transported to a hospital in serious condition at 2.30 p.m. after suffering an apparent stabbed wound. EMS personnel responded to a call at Aimi Place near Campbell High School. Police did not release details, but said detectives are investigating ... ....
