A shotgun (also known as a scattergun and peppergun, or historically as a fowling piece) is a firearm that is usually designed to be fired from the shoulder, which uses the energy of a fixed shell to fire a number of small spherical pellets called shot, or a solid projectile called a slug. Shotguns come in a wide variety of sizes, ranging from 5.5 mm (.22 inch) bore up to 5 cm (2.0 in) bore, and in a range of firearm operating mechanisms, including breech loading, single-barreled, double or combination gun, pump-action, bolt-, and lever-action, semi-automatic, and even fully automatic variants...
Specialty ammunition
The unique properties of the shotgun, such as large case capacity, large bore, and the lack of rifling, has led to the development of a large variety of specialty shells, ranging from novelties to high tech military rounds.
Hunting, defensive, and military
Brenneke and Foster type slugs have the same basic configuration as normal slugs, but have increased accuracy. The hollowed rear of the Foster slug improves accuracy by placing more mass in the front of the projectile, therefore inhibiting the "tumble" that normal slugs may generate. The Brenneke slug takes this concept a bit further, with the addition of a wad that stays connected to the projectile after discharge, increasing accuracy. Both slugs are commonly found with fins or rib, which are meant to allow the projectile to safely squeeze down during passage through chokes, but they do not increase stability in flight.
Flechette rounds contain aerodynamic darts, typically from 8 to 20 in number. The flechette provide greatly extended range due to their aerodynamic shape, and improved penetration of light armor. American troops during the Vietnam War packed their own flechette shotgun rounds, called beehive rounds, after the similar artillery rounds. However, terminal performance was poor due to the very light weight of the flechettes, and their use was quickly dropped.
Frag-12 shotgun rounds are a series of special purpose shotgun grenades, including high explosive blast, fragmentation, and HEAP grenades intended to be fired from any 12-ga shotgun. They are distinguished from regular shotgun rounds by a green hull. It has been proposed as an armament for modern UAVs and is currently being tested for military deployment.
Grenade rounds use exploding projectiles to increase long range lethality. These are currently experimental, but the British FRAG-12, which comes in both armor penetrating and fragmentary forms, is under consideration by military forces...
Novelty and other
Bolo rounds are made of two or more slugs molded onto steel wire. When fired, the slugs separate, pulling the wire taut creating a flying blade, which could theoretically decapitate people and animals or amputate limbs. However, many active shotgun users consider this to be overstated, and view bolo shells as being less effective than conventional ammunition. Bolo shell rounds are banned in many locations (including the US states of Florida and Illinois) due to concerns about their potential lethality. The round is named in reference to bolas, which use two or more weighted balls on a rope to trap cattle or game.
Dragon's Breath usually refers to a zirconium-based pyrotechnic shotgun round. When fired, a gout of flame erupts from the barrel of the gun (up to 20 ft). The visual effect it produces is impressive, similar to that of a short ranged flamethrower. However, it has few tactical uses, mainly distraction/disorientation.
Flare rounds are sometimes carried by hunters for safety and rescue purposes. They are available in low and high altitude versions. Some brands claim they can reach a height of up to 200 m (660 ft).

Specialty ammunition The unique properties of the shotgun, such as large case capacity, large bore, and the lack of rifling, has led to the development of a large variety of specialty shells, ranging from novelties to high tech military rounds. Hunting, defensive, and military Brenneke and Foster type slugs have the same basic configuration as normal slugs, but have increased accuracy. The hollowed rear of the Foster slug improves accuracy by placing more mass in the front of the projectile, therefore inhibiting the "tumble" that normal slugs may generate. The Brenneke slug takes this concept a bit further, with the addition of a wad that stays connected to the projectile after discharge, increasing accuracy. Both slugs are commonly found with fins or rib, which are meant to allow the projectile to safely squeeze down during passage through chokes, but they do not increase stability in flight. Flechette rounds contain aerodynamic darts, typically from 8 to 20 in number. The flechette provide greatly extended range due to their aerodynamic shape, and improved penetration of light armor. American troops during the Vietnam War packed their own flechette shotgun rounds, called beehive rounds, after the similar artillery rounds. However, terminal performance was poor due to the very light weight of the flechettes, and their use was quickly dropped. Frag-12 shotgun rounds are a series of special purpose shotgun grenades, including high explosive blast, fragmentation, and HEAP grenades intended to be fired from any 12-ga shotgun. They are distinguished from regular shotgun rounds by a green hull. It has been proposed as an armament for modern UAVs and is currently being tested for military deployment. Grenade rounds use exploding projectiles to increase long range lethality. These are currently experimental, but the British FRAG-12, which comes in both armor penetrating and fragmentary forms, is under consideration by military forces... Novelty and other Bolo rounds are made of two or more slugs molded onto steel wire. When fired, the slugs separate, pulling the wire taut creating a flying blade, which could theoretically decapitate people and animals or amputate limbs. However, many active shotgun users consider this to be overstated, and view bolo shells as being less effective than conventional ammunition. Bolo shell rounds are banned in many locations (including the US states of Florida and Illinois) due to concerns about their potential lethality. The round is named in reference to bolas, which use two or more weighted balls on a rope to trap cattle or game. Dragon's Breath usually refers to a zirconium-based pyrotechnic shotgun round. When fired, a gout of flame erupts from the barrel of the gun (up to 20 ft). The visual effect it produces is impressive, similar to that of a short ranged flamethrower. However, it has few tactical uses, mainly distraction/disorientation. Flare rounds are sometimes carried by hunters for safety and rescue purposes. They are available in low and high altitude versions. Some brands claim they can reach a height of up to 200 m (660 ft). -

A shotgun (also known as a scattergun and peppergun, or historically as a fowling piece) is a firearm that is usually designed to be fired from the shoulder, which uses the energy of a fixed shell to fire a number of small spherical pellets called shot, or a solid projectile called a slug. The unique properties of the shotgun, such as large case capacity, large bore, and the lack of rifling, has led to the development of a large variety of specialty shells, ranging from novelties to high tech military rounds.
Hunting, defensive, and military
Brenneke and Foster type slugs have the same basic configuration as normal slugs, but have increased accuracy. The hollowed rear of the Foster slug improves accuracy by placing more mass in the front of the projectile, therefore inhibiting the "tumble" that normal slugs may generate. The Brenneke slug takes this concept a bit further, with the addition of a wad that stays connected to the projectile after discharge, increasing accuracy. Both slugs are commonly found with fins or rib, which are meant to allow the projectile to safely squeeze down during passage through chokes, but they do not increase stability in flight.
Flechette rounds contain aerodynamic darts, typically from 8 to 20 in number. The flechette provide greatly extended range due to their aerodynamic shape, and improved penetration of light armor. American troops during the Vietnam War packed their own flechette shotgun rounds, called beehive rounds, after the similar artillery rounds. However, terminal performance was poor due to the very light weight of the flechettes, and their use was quickly dropped.
Frag-12 shotgun rounds are a series of special purpose shotgun grenades, including high explosive blast, fragmentation, and HEAP grenades intended to be fired from any 12-ga shotgun. They are distinguished from regular shotgun rounds by a green hull. It has been proposed as an armament for modern UAVs and is currently being tested for military deployment.
Grenade rounds use exploding projectiles to increase long range lethality. These are currently experimental, but the British FRAG-12, which comes in both armor penetrating and fragmentary forms, is under consideration by military forces...
Novelty and other
Bolo rounds are made of two or more slugs molded onto steel wire. When fired, the slugs separate, pulling the wire taut creating a flying blade, which could theoretically decapitate people and animals or amputate limbs. However, many active shotgun users consider this to be overstated, and view bolo shells as being less effective than conventional ammunition. Bolo shell rounds are banned in many locations (including the US states of Florida and Illinois) due to concerns about their potential lethality. The round is named in reference to bolas, which use two or more weighted balls on a rope to trap cattle or game.
Dragon's Breath usually refers to a zirconium-based pyrotechnic shotgun round. When fired, a gout of flame erupts from the barrel of the gun (up to 20 ft). The visual effect it produces is impressive, similar to that of a short ranged flamethrower. However, it has few tactical uses, mainly distraction/disorientation.
Flare rounds are sometimes carried by hunters for safety and rescue purposes. They are available in low and high altitude versions. Some brands claim they can reach a height of up to 200 m (660 ft).

New Orleans, LA Police are NOT ALLOWED by policy to ask about IMMIGRATION STATUS of those that are arrested, nor can they make inquiry as to the status of a person's citizenship status as a pre-emptive measure before a violent crime has been committed. This is a failure of the Federal Government's primary responsibility to ensure sovereignty and protection of its citizens from inherent threats.
Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee Chairman Gowdy and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Goodlatte issued the statement below in advance of this hearing:
“It is outrageous that the Justice Department would seek a consent decree with the New Orleans Police Department to actually inhibit the ability of the federal government to enforce federal law. (a) In general
Notwithstanding any other provision of Federal, State, or local law, a Federal, State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.
(b) Additional authority of government entitiesNotwithstanding any other provision of Federal, State, or local law, no person or agency may prohibit, or in any way restrict, a Federal, State, or local government entity from doing any of the following with respect to information regarding the immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual:
(1) Sending such information to, or requesting or receiving such information from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
(2) Maintaining such information.
(3) Exchanging such information with any other Federal, State, or local government entity.
(c) Obligation to respond to inquiries
The Immigration and Naturalization Service shall respond to an inquiry by a Federal, State, or local government agency, seeking to verify or ascertain the citizenship or immigration status of any individual within the jurisdiction of the agency for any purpose authorized by law, by providing the requested verification or status information.

Studies conducted in the late 1960s revealed an urgent need for high-quality, cost-effective training by a cadre of professional instructors using modern training facilities and standardized course content. Congress responded by authorizing funds for planning and constructing the Consolidated Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (CFLETC). In 1970, the CFLETC was established as a bureau of the Department of the Treasury (Treasury Order #217) and began training operations in temporary facilities in Washington, D.C.
The permanent location of the training center was originally planned for the Washington, D.C., area. However, a three-year construction delay resulted in Congress requesting that surplus federal installations be surveyed to determine if one could serve as the permanent site. In May 1975, after an extensive review of existing facilities, the former Naval Air Station Glynco was selected. In the summer of 1975, the newly renamed Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) relocated from Washington, D.C., and began training in September of that year at Glynco, Georgia. Glynco is the headquarters site and main campus for the FLETC and houses the senior leadership of the organization.
On March 1, 2003, FLETC formally transferred from the Treasury Department to the newly created Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with some 22 other federal agencies and entities. The move reflected the centrality of the FLETC's mission in support of the unified homeland security effort, which was expanded following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The FLETC's parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security, supervises its administrative and financial activities.
As an interagency training organization, FLETC has professionals from diverse backgrounds to serve on its faculty and staff. "Two recent Supreme Court decisions have created a crisis in religious freedom for Native Americans. These cases held that the first amendment does not protect tribal religious practices and referred the issue of protecting Native worship to Congress. In the view of many legal experts, the court's exclusion of traditional Indian worship from the first amendment also seriously weakened religious liberty for all Americans.
Proposed amendments to the American Indian Freedom of Religion Act (AIRFA) passed in 1978, would greatly strengthen protections for Native American religious practices. This week Native American religious and political leaders gather in Portland to testify at the hearing of the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs—the first step toward fashioning legislation to restore the rights of Native Americans to worship in the manner of their ancestors.
Vine Deloria, Jr., a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and a noted author, historian and Native American legal expert, will discuss the threat to Native American religious freedom, and the need for federal law reform. He will describe the need for access to sacred sites and religious sacraments important to Native American holy practices, and the proposed amendments to AIRFA.
Deloria is professor of American Indian Studies and adjunct professor of law at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, Deloria became the executive director of the National Congress of American Indians in 1964, and founded the Institute for the Development of Indian Law in Washington D.C. in 1971. He is the author of Custer Died For Our Sins and numerous other books. "

The Library Channel is pleased to present the eighth installment of The Simon Ortiz and Labriola Center Lecture on Indigenous Land, Culture, and Community with Tribal Land Claims: A Generation of Federal Indian Law on the Edge. Attorney Arlinda Locklear demonstrates how attorneys for tribes have used the doctrine of discovery or federal common law to assert claims in tribal land claim cases. She lays out the history of the Oneida land claim case against the state of New York beginning in 1784 when the state began an aggressive campaign to acquire Oneida territory leading to their currently pending case.
Arlinda Locklear (Lumbee) has a particularly distinguished career in federal Indian law. During her thirty five years' experience in the field, Locklear has represented tribes throughout the U.S. in federal and state courts on treaty claims to water and land, taxation disputes with states and local authorities, reservation boundary issues, and federal recognition of tribes. In particular, she is a nationally recognized expert in federal recognition of tribes and Indian land claims. Locklear began her career as an attorney at the Native American Rights Fund in Boulder, CO, and later transferred to the Washington DC office. As directing attorney for seven years in the Washington, DC office, Locklear supervised significant litigation of Indian issues as well as the legislative work of the office. Locklear was a member of the board of Advisors for the Encyclopedia of Native Americans in the 20th Century and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of North Carolina, Pembroke. Locklear was awarded the Outstanding Woman of Color Award, given by the National Institute of Women of Color in 1987; the Julian T. Pierce Award, given by Pembroke State University in 1994; the 1995 Carpathian Award for Speaking Out, given by North Carolina Equity; the Parks Award for Community Service, given by North Carolina State University in 2003; the 2008 Kate Stoneman Award for outstanding achievement in the legal profession, given by Albany Law School; and the 2009 Distinguished Alumna Award, from the College of Charleston. Locklear earned her law degree from Duke University School of Law and is a member of the Bars of Maryland, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia. She also holds honorary doctorates from State University of New York, Oneonta, and North Carolina State University.

Arlinda Locklear (Lumbee) has a particularly distinguished career in federal Indian law. During her thirty five years' experience in the field, Locklear has represented tribes throughout the U.S. in federal and state courts on treaty claims to water and land, taxation disputes with states and local authorities, reservation boundary issues, and federal recognition of tribes. In particular, she is a nationally recognized expert in federal recognition of tribes and Indian land claims. Locklear began her career as an attorney at the Native American Rights Fund in Boulder, CO, and later transferred to the Washington DC office. As directing attorney for seven years in the Washington, DC office, Locklear supervised significant litigation of Indian issues as well as the legislative work of the office. Locklear was a member of the board of Advisors for the Encyclopedia of Native Americans in the 20th Century and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of North Carolina, Pembroke. Locklear was awarded the Outstanding Woman of Color Award, given by the National Institute of Women of Color in 1987; the Julian T. Pierce Award, given by Pembroke State University in 1994; the 1995 Carpathian Award for Speaking Out, given by North Carolina Equity; the Parks Award for Community Service, given by North Carolina State University in 2003; the 2008 Kate Stoneman Award for outstanding achievement in the legal profession, given by Albany Law School; and the 2009 Distinguished Alumna Award, from the College of Charleston. Locklear earned her law degree from Duke University School of Law and is a member of the Bars of Maryland, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia. She also holds honorary doctorates from State University of New York, Oneonta, and North Carolina State University.
