If your ambient temp is below 10c you may want to use an engine warmer for the first start. We didn't in the video as we were at 12c on the day.
For the first tank start your engine check no funny noises and warm up engine gently to about 60c then take it up to about 80c using no more than half throttle to take up the revs to warm the engine like shown in the video. Then let it idle to cool down to 60c again to heat temper the engine. Repeat this for the first tank of fuel. There should be plenty of oil exiting the pipe so look out for that. We use a fuel with 12% oil.
Start engine check no funny noises, warm up gently to running temp then tune to how you would like to race it meaning how it feels when you are warming it up for a qualifying heat.
Then take it on the track and run 2 tanks up to half throttle then 2 tanks at 3/4 throttle then 2 tanks just touching full throttle backing off just as you are hitting full revs. Keeping engine running all the time as this helps with heat tempering the piston & liner.
Once you have done this give it 3 laps and check temp you are aiming for 85c plus ambient temp so if it's 30c it should be 115c
Once you have the temp controlled run it flat out up and down straight on bring to a stop. Should idle for 30 seconds then hit the gas flat out it should have a small splutter then pull away. If it pulls away clean then richen bottom and try again. I like to run the bottom a little richer and top so it really screams down the straight. Hope this is helpful.

One of the vital parts of sounding good when you sing is to make sure you are singing in tune - or on pitch as well call it in musician speak.
So what this means is that you are matching the note that you need to sing exactly. many singers tend to fall flat of the note - which is when you are slightly under. Or you may sing slightly above which is singing SHARP - but most commonly singers fall flat.
And this occurs for three reasons:
1. There's not enough air flow/ breath support
2. there is not enough space in your mouth when you are singing
3. your need to develop your musical hearing.
So let's break this down:
1. Breath support and airflow.
As a singer you are essentially a wind insturment. So you need air coming through your instrument so that your vocal folds can vibrate and produce sound.
Now if there is not enought airflow your vocal folds can't do their job properly and you end up straining your throat to compensate and the result is singing flat.
So a simple exercise to get your airflow happening is to sigh - because when we sigh, our throats are naturally relaxed and we're allowing a lot of airflow to come out.
Then extend the sigh - this is just getting you into the habit of having more airflow. Try this a bunch of different notes and do some sighing during your warm ups.
2. Space in your mouth.
If you have ever been inside a big cathedral or any room that has a high rounded ceiling, it usually has that nice reverb that echo when you speak loudly. The sound is amplified and it sounds nice and resonant. The same goes for your voice.
If you create more space in your mouth, your sound quality will improve.However if you're not opening your mouth enough and your tongue is lazy, then what is doing is squashing all the sound down and results in a flattened pitch.
So to get that nice rounded mouth, 'How now brown cow' when you do this your soft palate raises and everything goes into the right position. So think posh, drop your jaw and keep that space happening. You want to go LONG not wide.
3. Your musical hearing:
Training your ears is vital not only to singing in tune, but it also increases your versatility as a singer. If you have good hearing, you can sing vocal harmony, you can improvise, and your appreciation of music will increase because you will be able to hear all the different sounds and instruments and you'll know if your accompanist plays a wrong note plus you'll be able to start off your songs better because you'll be able to hear your start note after the piano player does an intro for you.

So if you get those three aspects working - your pitch will improve and you will sound all the better for it.

Tuner (radio)
A tuner is a subsystem that receives radio frequency (RF) transmissions like radio broadcasts and converts the selected carrier frequency and its associated bandwidth into a fixed frequency that is suitable for further processing, usually because a lower frequency is used on the output. Broadcast FM/AM transmissions usually feed this intermediate frequency (IF) directly into a demodulator that convert the radio signal into audio-frequency signals that can be fed into an amplifier to drive a loudspeaker. More complex transmissions like PAL/NTSC (TV), DAB (digital radio), DVB-T/DVB-S/DVB-C (digital TV) etc. uses a wider frequency bandwidth, often with several subcarriers. These are transmitted inside the receiver as an intermediate frequency (IF). The next step is usually either to process subcarriers like real radio transmissions or to sample the whole bandwidth with A/D at a rate faster than the nyquist rate that is at least 2 times the IF frequency.
The term tuner can also refer to a radio receiver or standalone audio component that are part of an audio system, to be connected to a separate amplifier. The verb "tuning" in radio contexts means adjusting the radio receiver to receive the desired radio signal carrier frequency that a particular radio station uses.

If your ambient temp is below 10c you may want to use an engine warmer for the first start. We didn't in the video as we were at 12c on the day.
For the first tank start your engine check no funny noises and warm up engine gently to about 60c then take it up to about 80c using no more than half throttle to take up the revs to warm the engine like shown in the video. Then let it idle to cool down to 60c again to heat temper the engine. Repeat this for the first tank of fuel. There should be plenty of oil exiting the pipe so look out for that. We use a fuel with 12% oil.
Start engine check no funny noises, warm up gently to running temp then tune to how you would like to race it meaning how it feels when you are warming it up for a qualifying heat.
Then take it on the track and run 2 tanks up to half throttle then 2 tanks at 3/4 throttle then 2 tanks just touching full throttle backing off just as you are hitting full revs. Keeping engine running all the time as this helps with heat tempering the piston & liner.
Once you have done this give it 3 laps and check temp you are aiming for 85c plus ambient temp so if it's 30c it should be 115c
Once you have the temp controlled run it flat out up and down straight on bring to a stop. Should idle for 30 seconds then hit the gas flat out it should have a small splutter then pull away. If it pulls away clean then richen bottom and try again. I like to run the bottom a little richer and top so it really screams down the straight. Hope this is helpful.

One of the vital parts of sounding good when you sing is to make sure you are singing in tune - or on pitch as well call it in musician speak.
So what this means is that you are matching the note that you need to sing exactly. many singers tend to fall flat of the note - which is when you are slightly under. Or you may sing slightly above which is singing SHARP - but most commonly singers fall flat.
And this occurs for three reasons:
1. There's not enough air flow/ breath support
2. there is not enough space in your mouth when you are singing
3. your need to develop your musical hearing.
So let's break this down:
1. Breath support and airflow.
As a singer you are essentially a wind insturment. So you need air coming through your instrument so that your vocal folds can vibrate and produce sound.
Now if there is not enought airflow your vocal folds can't do their job properly and you end up straining your throat to compensate and the result is singing flat.
So a simple exercise to get your airflow happening is to sigh - because when we sigh, our throats are naturally relaxed and we're allowing a lot of airflow to come out.
Then extend the sigh - this is just getting you into the habit of having more airflow. Try this a bunch of different notes and do some sighing during your warm ups.
2. Space in your mouth.
If you have ever been inside a big cathedral or any room that has a high rounded ceiling, it usually has that nice reverb that echo when you speak loudly. The sound is amplified and it sounds nice and resonant. The same goes for your voice.
If you create more space in your mouth, your sound quality will improve.However if you're not opening your mouth enough and your tongue is lazy, then what is doing is squashing all the sound down and results in a flattened pitch.
So to get that nice rounded mouth, 'How now brown cow' when you do this your soft palate raises and everything goes into the right position. So think posh, drop your jaw and keep that space happening. You want to go LONG not wide.
3. Your musical hearing:
Training your ears is vital not only to singing in tune, but it also increases your versatility as a singer. If you have good hearing, you can sing vocal harmony, you can improvise, and your appreciation of music will increase because you will be able to hear all the different sounds and instruments and you'll know if your accompanist plays a wrong note plus you'll be able to start off your songs better because you'll be able to hear your start note after the piano player does an intro for you.

Of all of his audio releases, I consider this one to be the most controversial, most dangerous, and most straightforward speech on what his goal really was. This record is very different from the 1967 version which has the same title. The 1967 version is a guided tour of an LSD session. This record is simply a quiet speech by Timothy Leary with no music or effects. A live performance by tUnE-yArDs is as thrilling and unshakeable as the music itself. For this set, recorded live at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., Merrill Garbus, the mad genius behind tUnE-yArDs brought along two frenetic dancers and backup singers, an extra percussionist, a bassist, and two enormous pairs of glittery blue eyes that stared the audience down from the back of the stage. Of all of his audio releases, I consider this one to be the most controversial, most dangerous, and most straightforward speech on what his goal really was. This record is simply a quiet speech by Timothy Leary with no music or effects. He talks about life at the Millbrook, NY estate, how it's a center for psychedelic research and basically what kind of stuff goes on there. He also talks about how LSD is a touchy subject for older people and authorities and so he speaks towards a younger generation. He talks about how drugs can be used as a tool and that he expects the upcoming generation to begin using these tools in a responsible and intelligent manner. Unlike many of his other recordings, this one really doesn't spend a lot of time trying to describe a psychedelic experience, if at all. It doesn't talk about migration, or cellular trips, or intelligence increase, or really anything he's talked about in his later writings and works. This is more of a personal, one-on-one type dialog directed towards young, open minds, with the intent of getting them to avoid the old establishment and to gently drop out of society and begin using drugs to expand their minds. After listening to this, I can see why Nixon named him "The Most Dangerous Man in America". Mostly because he is very convincing and what he is proposing is a giant blow to the establishment and great potential for upsetting society. Of course this was about 50 years ago, so we know how it all really ended-up playing out. For anyone who is a big fan of Timothy Leary's work, or just very curious about him, this is really good one to start with because it's easy to relate to without having had an actual LSD session yourself. This was recorded about 2 years after he and Richard Alpert (Ram Dass) wrote The Psychedelic Experience and in the same year (1966) that he wrote Psychedelic Prayers after the Tao Te Ching. Both this album and the Psychedelic Prayers book are examples of the rarest and most appreciated works of Timothy Leary, it really was the peak of his time.

A live performance by tUnE-yArDs is as thrilling and unshakeable as the music itself. For this set, recorded live at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., Merrill Garbus, the mad genius behind tUnE-yArDs brought along two frenetic dancers and backup singers, an extra percussionist, a bassist, and two enormous pairs of glittery blue eyes that stared the audience down from the back of the stage.
Wearing an aqua dress with a pattern made to look like fish scales, Garbus stood at center stage, deftly directing her crew through the patchwork, polyrhythmic sounds that make up her head-spinning music.
tUnE-yArDs is currently on tour for its latest, and most fully realized album, Nikki Nack. This performance was the first of two sold-out nights, recorded live in Washington, D.C. on Jun. 13, 2014.
