Angelie Sens
Profile
Angelie Sens obtained her doctorate degree in 2001 at the Radboud University, Nijmegen, with the PhD thesis: 'Mensaap, heiden, slaaf'. Nederlandse visies op de wereld rond 1800 (Den Haag, Sdu, 2001).
She studied History at Utrecht University (MA) and received a BA in Political Sciences at the University of Amsterdam (with distinction).
From 2001 until 2013 she worked at the Press Museum, Amsterdam; the last twelve years as director, curator and senior researcher. Since 2013 she is honorary fellow at the IISH and since June 2014 member of the research department. Sens works on the research project: 'A Kingdom at Work. Johannes van den Bosch (1780-1844), reformer in a global context'. The result will be a biography on Johannes van den Bosch (2016-2017).
Her main fields of interest are the histories of colonialism, the slave trade, slavery and abolitionism (18th-19th centuries) and the press history of the Netherlands and their former colonies (18th-20th centuries).
