The British Army is the principal land warfare force of the United Kingdom. The force was initially administered by the War Office from London, which in 1964 was subsumed into the Ministry of Defence. The professional head of the British Army is the Chief of the General Staff.
The full-time element of the British Army is referred to as the Regular Army and has been since the creation of the reservist Territorial Force in 1908. All members of the British Army swear (or affirm) allegiance to the monarch as commander-in-chief. However, the Bill of Rights of 1689 requires Parliamentary consent for The Crown to maintain a standing army in peacetime. Parliament approves the continued existence of the Army by passing an Armed Forces Act at least once every five years.
Throughout its history, the British Army has seen action in a number of major wars involving the world's great powers, including the Seven Years' War, the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the First World War and Second World War. Repeatedly emerging victorious from these decisive wars allowed Britain to influence world events with its policies and establish itself as one of the world's leading military and economic powers. Since the end of the Cold war, the British Army has been deployed to many conflict zones, often as part of an expeditionary force or a United Nations peacekeeping operation. Additionally, the British Army maintains several permanent overseas postings.

Kenya has signed a deal with the UK, allowing the British Army to continue training thousands of troops in the country every year. The agreement still needs to be ratified by both the UK and the Kenyan parliaments, but it will allow the army to use what has become its biggest foreign training area for live firing drills. The BBC's Africa Correspondent Alastair Leithead joined one of the exercises. The Royal Gurkha Rifles Regiment leads the way in the final phase of Exercise Saber Strike. The Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR) is a rifle regiment of the British Army, forming part of the Brigade of Gurkhas. Unlike other regiments in the British army, soldiers are recruited from Nepal, which is neither a dependent territory of the United Kingdom nor a member of the Commonwealth. The Gurkhas are a unique unit in the Army with a reputation of being amongst the finest and most feared soldiers in the world. The Victorians identified them as a "martial race", perceiving in them particularly masculine qualities of toughness. Their motto is: Better to die than live a coward. Jeremy Corbyn on British troops, it's right they should be in courts on war crimes, slash military spending, and MI5 spies should not be expanded to deal with expanded numbers of Islamic nutjob terrorists in the UK let in under Labour's (and now Tories) "Open Borders" policy. Any audio or picture break up was at the transmission end (BBC), not by a dodgy aerial / bad weather at my end. Recorded from BBC1 HD, Andrew Marr Show, 30 September 2016.
Some parts of video are blank skip forward a few mins. It follows the British army, Royal Logistics Corps as they drive their supply trucks across the harsh Afghanistan terrain to the forward operating bases. Their job is difficult but supplying the troops with ammunition, food and other basic necessities is vital.
Took this thing long enough to arrive! And amazingly intact with itself as the container, pretty awesome for the Brits to do so. But the drinks are excessively sweet for my taste and it gave me a light fever after.

In a new episode of Rule Britannia, VICE joins the UK's Army Cadet Force and asks what the youth club can give British kids who may not have a lot else. The Army Cadet Force has over 46,000 cadets from the ages of 12 to 18, training in 1,700 detachments all over the country. The super low-cost club evenings and training camps equip teenagers with discipline and skills in everything from orienteering and military knowledge to weaponry, first aid, and sports. Smartly uniformed and proudly representing Queen and Country, the young cadets are taught to embody British values. The theory that cadet activities could keep youth on the right track has seen huge government funding allocated to expand the cadets by next year.
