'Pennies From Heaven' by Dennis Potter. Episode 5: Painting The Clouds'. Seeking refuge for the night in a Salvation Army hostel, the mysterious Accordion Man (Kenneth Colley), whose entire repertoire consists of three hymn tunes, is haunted by the murder of a blind girl (Yolande Palfrey). While the weird busker is involved in a chain of events in which salesman Arthur is forced to go on the run wanted for her murder, he cannot escape the memories of the girl as the ambiguity of the Accordion Man and Arthur's guilt by association becomes clear and he is trapped in the English words of a classic italian love song.
Potter continues to explore his theme of good and evil, corruption and love, setting up a quite eery connection between the two, as Colley lip syncs to the lyrics which hint at a motive for the murder - "she gave not a sign that she'd ever be mine" - with a seedy and dark backdrop to the Italian love song 'Violino tzigano', typical of Potter's sweet and sour style.The scene is given the full on tango treatment with over the top Latin 'gusto' and, as Colley is swamped by a motley band of accordion players, the Accordion Man's entrapment in his own guilt is palpable.

SUMMARY
From 1969 to 1984 I used 13 different artists with the Brotherhood of Man, I recorded 204 different tracks, which I wrote or co wrote 149 different songs, I released 36 singles in which 14 charted, I released 20 albums in which 6 charted, the Brotherhood of Man received over 30 Silver, Gold and Platinum discs.
I now look back with joy at those wonderful years and am delighted that I was instrumental in putting together such an array of wonderful talent, like the late great Johnny Goodison who went on to write and produce many hits. Tony Burrows to this day is still recording and still has a wonderful career touring with White Plains. Roger Greenaway along with his partner Roger Cook went on to become one of the greatest writers that this country has ever seen, also chairman of the PRS (performing Rights Society) and vice president of ASCAP. Russell Stone along with his lovely wife went on and recorded many hits. The talented Sue and Sunny carried on with session work and went on and recorded many big hits of today. Barry Upton whom I also had the pleasure of writing many hits songs with, Barry also went on to write hits in his own right.

The Man
"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either passively, openly or via sabotage.
History
As a phrase meaning "the boss" it dates from at least 1918.
In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.
The use of this term was expanded to counterculture groups and their battles against authority, such as the Yippies, which, according to a May 19, 1969 article in U.S. News and World Report, had the "avowed aim ... to destroy 'The Man', their term for the present system of government". The term eventually found its way into humorous usage, such as in a December 1979 motorcycle ad from the magazine Easyriders which featured the tagline, "California residents: Add 6% sales tax for The Man."

Brotherhood of Man are a British pop group who achieved success in the 1970s. They won the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest with "Save Your Kisses for Me".
Created in 1969 by songwriter and record producer Tony Hiller, Brotherhood of Man was initially an umbrella title for a frequently-changing line-up of session singers. Early on, they scored a worldwide hit with the song "United We Stand". By 1973 the concept had run its course and Hiller formed a definite four-member line-up consisting of Martin Lee, Lee Sheriden, Nicky Stevens and Sandra Stevens. This version of the group went on to score many hits around the world in the mid to late 1970s including "Kiss Me Kiss Your Baby", "Angelo", "Oh Boy (The Mood I'm In)" and "Figaro". They achieved perhaps their biggest success in their native UK with three number one singles and four top twenty albums. The group under this line-up still continues today, performing shows throughout Europe. Altogether, they have released 16 studio albums, with worldwide record sales topping 15 million.

Save Your Kisses
Save Your Kisses is the debut album of Danish singer Natasha Thomas. It is her first and last album with Epic. It was a minor hit in some European countries and South America, principally in Brazil, where the song "It's Over Now" was used in the soundtrack of a famous soap opera, A Senhora do Destino (English: The owner of the destiny). In 2005 a Japanese version was released, with a different cover and a modified track listing; in it, "Save Your Kisses For Me" was replaced with "Let Me Show You (The Way)", which is the same song, but with different lyrics, and the song "I'm Just A Little Bit Shy", for unknown reason, was replaced for a single mix of "Save Your Kisses For Me".

'Pennies From Heaven' by Dennis Potter. Episode 5: Painting The Clouds'. Seeking refuge for the night in a Salvation Army hostel, the mysterious Accordion Man (Kenneth Colley), whose entire repertoire consists of three hymn tunes, is haunted by the murder of a blind girl (Yolande Palfrey). 'Pennies From Heaven' by Dennis Potter. Episode 5: Painting The Clouds'. Seeking refuge for the night in a Salvation Army hostel, the mysterious Accordion Man (Kenneth Colley), whose entire repertoire consists of three hymn tunes, is haunted by the murder of a blind girl (Yolande Palfrey). While the weird busker is involved in a chain of events in which salesman Arthur is forced to go on the run wanted for her murder, he cannot escape the memories of the girl as the ambiguity of the Accordion Man and Arthur's guilt by association becomes clear and he is trapped in the English words of a classic italian love song.
Potter continues to explore his theme of good and evil, corruption and love, setting up a quite eery connection between the two, as Colley lip syncs to the lyrics which hint at a motive for the murder - "she gave not a sign that she'd ever be mine" - with a seedy and dark backdrop to the Italian love song 'Violino tzigano', typical of Potter's sweet and sour style.The scene is given the full on tango treatment with over the top Latin 'gusto' and, as Colley is swamped by a motley band of accordion players, the Accordion Man's entrapment in his own guilt is palpable.

SUMMARY
From 1969 to 1984 I used 13 different artists with the Brotherhood of Man, I recorded 204 different tracks, which I wrote or co wrote 149 different songs, I released 36 singles in which 14 charted, I released 20 albums in which 6 charted, the Brotherhood of Man received over 30 Silver, Gold and Platinum discs.
I now look back with joy at those wonderful years and am delighted that I was instrumental in putting together such an array of wonderful talent, like the late great Johnny Goodison who went on to write and produce many hits. Tony Burrows to this day is still recording and still has a wonderful career touring with White Plains. Roger Greenaway along with his partner Roger Cook went on to become one of the greatest writers that this country has ever seen, also chairman of the PRS (performing Rights Society) and vice president of ASCAP. Russell Stone along with his lovely wife went on and recorded many hits. The talented Sue and Sunny carried on with session work and went on and recorded many big hits of today. Barry Upton whom I also had the pleasure of writing many hits songs with, Barry also went on to write hits in his own right.

SUMMARY
From 1969 to 1984 I used 13 different artists with the Brotherhood of Man, I recorded 204 different tracks, which I wrote or co wrote 149 different songs, I released 36 singles in which 14 charted, I released 20 albums in which 6 charted, the Brotherhood of Man received over 30 Silver, Gold and Platinum discs.
I now look back with joy at those wonderful years and am delighted that I was instrumental in putting together such an array of wonderful talent, like the late great Johnny Goodison who went on to write and produce many hits. Tony Burrows to this day is still recording and still has a wonderful career touring with White Plains. Roger Greenaway along with his partner Roger Cook went on to become one of the greatest writers that this country has ever seen, also chairman of the PRS (performing Rights Society) and vice president of ASCAP. Russell Stone along with his lovely wife went on and recorded many hits. The talented Sue and Sunny carried on with session work and went on and recorded many big hits of today. Barry Upton whom I also had the pleasure of writing many hits songs with, Barry also went on to write hits in his own right.
