One-party state
A one-party state, single-party state, one-party system, or single-party system is a type of state in which one political party has the right to form the government, usually based on the existing constitution. All other parties are either outlawed or allowed to take only a limited and controlled participation in elections. Sometimes the term de facto one-party state is used to describe a dominant-party system that, unlike the one-party state, allows (at least nominally) democratic multiparty elections, but the existing practices or balance of political power effectively prevent the opposition from winning the elections.
Concept
One-party states explain themselves through various methods. Most often, proponents of a one-party state argue that the existence of separate parties runs counter to national unity. Others argue that the one party is the vanguard of the people, and therefore its right to rule cannot be legitimately questioned. The Marxist theory states that political parties represent the interests, most of which, in a liberal system, respond to the economic power and are part of the system (the superstructure) where whoever wins there will be no substantial changes, once abolished class distinctions no place for the struggle for multiparty own economic interests, however, an organization that is able to formulate national policies and manage their reins to ensure the development of socialism is necessary, this organization is the only party to be the only existing single social class and the common interest of progress.

There have been five, arguably six, party systems since the election of John Adams in 1796 (George Washington’s presidency was an unusual case, and we’ll get to that), so we’ll look at the supporters and policies of each of the parties during these eras and look at how historical contingencies cause these policy shifts. ▶ In this video I talk about one-party states throughout the world. First explaining what a one-party state / single-party system is and how they work; providing some historical examples of them such as the 20th century Portuguese dictatorship of the 'Estado Novo'. I then go into a brief overview of the countries today that are truly one-party states, according to its exact definition: China, Vietnam, Laos, North Korea, Eritrea. But then explain why this definition is severely limited: understanding that there are many 'de facto' one-party states - in which other parties are allowed to exist but severely limited and never capable of reaching power (such as in Russia, Belarus, etc.). Finally, I go into other regimes in the world where the scenario is the same as one-party states, but where parties don't even exist due to the ruling's faction absolute power, i.e. absolute monarchies and military dictatorships.

Bangladesh issued an arrest warrant for the country’s opposition leader, Khaleda Zia, this week over allegations that Zia and members of her Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were involved in a deadly fire-bomb attack in 2015.
Zia and the country’s current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have been rivals for years and have alternated as the country’s leader over the last two decades.
The opposition leader was also charged with sedition early this year and other members of the BNP say they have been harassed, detained and forced to flee the country.
In an interview conducted prior to the recent arrest warrant, Mehdi Hasan sat down with the country’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam to discuss the future of democracy in the country.

Attempting to mingle, Hrundi (Peter Sellers) mistakes a tragic story for a joke.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Peter Sellers plays a bumbling foreigner once again (but this time he's not from France) in this cult-favorite comedy. Hrundi V. Bakshi (Peter Sellers) is an accident-prone actor from India who has come to California, hoping to make a name for himself in Hollywood movies. However, Bakshi quickly makes the wrong impression on producer C.S. Divot (Gavin MacLeod) and studio chief Fred Clutterbuck (J. Edward McKinley) when he accidentally blows up the set for his first film. Clutterbuck jots down Bakshi's name to remind himself to have the actor blacklisted, but he doesn't realize that he's put the name on the guest list for an upcoming party at his home. Bakshi sees the social event as an opportunity to get back in Clutterbuck's good graces, but from the moment he arrives, one thing after another goes wrong, with increasing effect; it doesn't help that he finds himself infatuated with Michele Monet (Claudine Longet), Divot's latest starlet discovery. Director Blake Edwards shot The Party with a minimal script to allow Peter Sellers and the other comic actors greater room for slapstick improvisation, which helps explain why many of the film's most memorable scenes feature little or no dialogue.

▶ In this video I talk about one-party states throughout the world. First explaining what a one-party state / single-party system is and how they work; providing some historical examples of them such as the 20th century Portuguese dictatorship of the 'Estado Novo'. I then go into a brief overview of the countries today that are truly one-party states, according to its exact definition: China, Vietnam, Laos, North Korea, Eritrea. But then explain why this definition is severely limited: understanding that there are many 'de facto' one-party states - in which other parties are allowed to exist but severely limited and never capable of reaching power (such as in Russia, Belarus, etc.). Finally, I go into other regimes in the world where the scenario is the same as one-party states, but where parties don't even exist due to the ruling's faction absolute power, i.e. absolute monarchies and military dictatorships.

Today, Craig is going to dive into the history of American political parties. So throughout most of United States history our political system has been dominated by a two-party system, but the policies and the groups that support these parties have changed drastically throughout history. There have been five, arguably six, party systems since the election of John Adams in 1796 (George Washington’s presidency was an unusual case, and we’ll get to that), so we’ll look at the supporters and policies of each of the parties during these eras and look at how historical contingencies cause these policy shifts. We’ll also talk a bit about the benefit of a third party, which although rarely ever wins, helps to influence political debate.

Bangladesh issued an arrest warrant for the country’s opposition leader, Khaleda Zia, this week over allegations that Zia and members of her Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were involved in a deadly fire-bomb attack in 2015.
Zia and the country’s current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have been rivals for years and have alternated as the country’s leader over the last two decades.
The opposition leader was also charged with sedition early this year and other members of the BNP say they have been harassed, detained and forced to flee the country.
In an interview conducted prior to the recent arrest warrant, Mehdi Hasan sat down with the country’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam to discuss the future of democracy in the country.

One-party state
A one-party state, single-party state, one-party system, or single-party system is a type of state in which one political party has the right to form the government, usually based on the existing constitution. All other parties are either outlawed or allowed to take only a limited and controlled participation in elections. Sometimes the term de facto one-party state is used to describe a dominant-party system that, unlike the one-party state, allows (at least nominally) democratic multiparty elections, but the existing practices or balance of political power effectively prevent the opposition from winning the elections.
Concept
One-party states explain themselves through various methods. Most often, proponents of a one-party state argue that the existence of separate parties runs counter to national unity. Others argue that the one party is the vanguard of the people, and therefore its right to rule cannot be legitimately questioned. The Marxist theory states that political parties represent the interests, most of which, in a liberal system, respond to the economic power and are part of the system (the superstructure) where whoever wins there will be no substantial changes, once abolished class distinctions no place for the struggle for multiparty own economic interests, however, an organization that is able to formulate national policies and manage their reins to ensure the development of socialism is necessary, this organization is the only party to be the only existing single social class and the common interest of progress.

Attempting to mingle, Hrundi (Peter Sellers) mistakes a tragic story for a joke.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Peter Sellers plays a bumbling foreigner once again (but this time he's not from France) in this cult-favorite comedy. Hrundi V. Bakshi (Peter Sellers) is an accident-prone actor from India who has come to California, hoping to make a name for himself in Hollywood movies. However, Bakshi quickly makes the wrong impression on producer C.S. Divot (Gavin MacLeod) and studio chief Fred Clutterbuck (J. Edward McKinley) when he accidentally blows up the set for his first film. Clutterbuck jots down Bakshi's name to remind himself to have the actor blacklisted, but he doesn't realize that he's put the name on the guest list for an upcoming party at his home. Bakshi sees the social event as an opportunity to get back in Clutterbuck's good graces, but from the moment he arrives, one thing after another goes wrong, with increasing effect; it doesn't help that he finds himself infatuated with Michele Monet (Claudine Longet), Divot's latest starlet discovery. Director Blake Edwards shot The Party with a minimal script to allow Peter Sellers and the other comic actors greater room for slapstick improvisation, which helps explain why many of the film's most memorable scenes feature little or no dialogue.
