Borneo (/ˈbɔːrnioʊ/; Indonesian: Kalimantan, Malay: Borneo) is the third-largest island in the world and the largest island in Asia. At the geographic center of Maritime Southeast Asia, in relation to major Indonesian islands, it is located north of Java, west of Sulawesi, and east of Sumatra.
The island is divided among three countries: Malaysia and Brunei in the north, and Indonesia to the south. Approximately 73% of the island is Indonesian territory. In the north, the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak make up about 26% of the island. Additionally, the Malaysian federal territory of Labuan is situated on a small island just off the coast of Borneo. The sovereign state of Brunei, located on the north coast, comprises about 1% of Borneo's land area. Antipodal to an area of Amazon rainforest, Borneo is itself home to one of the oldest rainforests in the world.
The island is known by many names; internationally it is known as Borneo, after Brunei, derived from European historical contact with the kingdom in the 16th century during the Age of Exploration. The name Brunei possibly was initially derived from the Sanskrit word "varuṇ" (वरुण), meaning either "ocean" or the mythological Varuna, the "god of the ocean." Indonesian natives called it Kalimantan, which was derived from the Sanskrit word Kalamanthana, meaning "burning weather island" (to describe its hot and humid tropical weather).

Redfern's Wild Borneo expedition takes in the very best wildlife highlights that Borneo has to offer. Starting with a boat journey to see the curious proboscis monkeys, we explore towering tropical rainforests in search of one of the world’s largest flowers, with blooms up to 1 metre in diameter. We then travel upriver by canoe to stay at a remote longhouse, experiencing traditional life and customs, and explore vast caves used by gatherers of bird nests for soup both in ancient times as today. We then observe orangutans up close, before relaxing in soothing geothermal hot water springs prior to an ascent of Borneo’s tallest and most spectacular mountain, Mt. Kinabalu. After seeing exquisite orchids and giant carnivorous pitcher plants, we end the tour on a beautiful coral island for two ...

Kuching is one of my favourite Asian Capitals. I think it is a very easy place to travel for Westerners and is a great base to explore the Borneo Interior. I also review the backpackers accommodation I am staying at, The B and B Inn. I've been here for a few weeks and feel they do a number of things right with regard to tourist accommodation. The B and B Inn is the first registered inn catering for backpackers in Kuching. A lot of backpacker's accommodation in Kuching are not registered and can lead to problems with travel insurance if things go wrong, e.g. fire To prebook accommodation at the B & B Inn Phone: +60 82 237 366 email: phanlily@hotmail.com Address: 30-1 Jalan Tubuan, Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo XF100 Canon CineF preset

Well I ain't gonna live in your world no more (Hey Borneo!)
Feelin' like a flunky for a two-bit whore (Here I come Borneo!)
You've got a monkey for a president (Hey Borneo!)
And a head all filled up with cement (Lookout Borneo!)
So I'm getting out of here
And I'm counting one! (Two!) Three!(Four!)
I can't take a minute more!
I'm gonna swing like an ape from a banyan tree (Hey Borneo!)
I'm gonna live me a life of luxury (Here I come Borneo!)
I'll get drunk on toddy and I'll sleep all day (Hey Borneo)
Until your world is washed away (Lookout Borneo!)
So I'm getting out of here
I said, I'm counting four! (Three!) Two! (One!)
Set a course for the rising sun
So I'm getting out of here
Said I'm counting ten! (Nine!) Eight! (Seven!)
This monkey's gonna go to heaven
Gonna set my sails for the virgin soil (Hey Borneo!)
You know I don't wanna die for the price of oil (Here I come Borneo!)
I wanna watch the sun set every night (Hey Borneo!)
Gonna fall asleep in the cool moonlight (Lookout Borneo!)
So I'm getting out of here
Yeah, I'm counting five! (Six!) Seven! (Eight!)
