Professor Martina Newell McGloughlin of the University of California at Davis explains the rigorous safety testing completed on all foods derived from crop biotechnology. McGloughlin says GMO food crops are more thoroughly tested than any non-GMO products in the history of agriculture, and explains how the same basic building blocks of DNA make up all genetically modified and conventionally grown foods. Chemistry and Geology Professor Bill Casey expresses his thanks to College of Letters & Science donors and shares how their contributions have made a difference in pursuing his research.
Wow. The biggest crowd I've seen on the MU Quad in 12+ years working at UC Davis. The People were Powerful Today at UC Davis. And with clever Signs to boot. Favorite Signs/Posters: (first, many great Photoshopped images that words can't describe...) "Say it Don't Spray It" "Shame on U" "Nov. 17, 1973. You Forgot." (ouch. that one made Katehi cry) "Syria Called. They want John Pike back." "Respect Existence or Expect Resistance" ...and what, Prithee, was YOUR favorite Sign or Poster at the Occupy UCD Rally Today? Or at any Occupy Rally for that matter?

"Hans-Jörg and die Mädels" rap about the Vienna Program! Vienna, one of Europe's great imperial capitals, is our classroom. We study European society, politics, and culture through an Austrian lens. An interplay of religion and politics shaped the reign of the Habsburg dynasty that ruled Austria from 1273 to 1918. The religious upheavals of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries is revealed in art and architecture. We visit sacred shrines and saints' relics to understand Catholic spirituality. Vienna was the scene of epic battles between Christians and Muslims, as Ottoman Turks besieged the city. We visit Baroque and Rococo palaces where Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven performed. We spend time in classic Vienna Coffeehouses, the scene of enlightened sociability and intellectual life. We trace t...

Chemistry graduate student and Chemical Biology Program trainee Cody Palumbo talks to fellow students and professors at the 2016 Annual CBP Retreat. The CBP supported by a NIH T32 Training Grant, with matching funds from UC Davis, providing fellowships for 3-4 highly qualified predoctoral candidates annually. Our goal is to engage students in effective cross training at the interface of chemistry and biology. Through the CBP, trainees will develop an understanding for the value of the synthesis and analysis tools traditionally associated with chemistry in addressing biological questions relating to human health. http://chembio.ucdavis.edu Produced by Andrew Turner
Cody Palumbo is a Ph.D. student in the UC Davis Department of Chemistry, as well as a NIH-funded trainee of the Chemical Biology Program. He works in the lab of Professor Pete Beal.
