Kidspot Things To Do

Is this the best theme park EVER?!

Playing with Tonka trucks in the sandpit has never looked so comparatively puny.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that children and sandpits are a match made in heaven. From the time my child could drool on his clenched little fist, all he wanted was to sit in the middle of a sandpit, grab handfuls of the salty stuff and shove it gleefully down his throat. It would vanish into his fat, little body only to return, compacted, out the other end.

His burgeoning toddlerhood did nothing to dull the little city planner’s love affair with sand, either. Every day he comes home from daycare with his shoes full of the stuff! Undressing is now an outdoor occurrence thanks to those mini mountains of sand that pour forth from each pocket and folded sleeve.

At least he’s no longer eating the stuff

He is obsessed, OBSESSED with the accoutrements of sandpit play. And by accoutrements, I mean steamrollers. Dump Trucks. Caterpillars. DIGGERRRRRRRRRRRRRRS!

Weirdly, I have a feeling this fascination is not likely to end anytime soon. I’m pretty sure I still detect a slight rise in heart rate when my partner sees one of these mighty beasts of the adult sandpit in action.

Ooops, did I say adult sandpit? I meant, construction site.

Hell, even I get a little bit excited when driving any kind of giant vehicle. Hopping in the front seat of a tow truck is pretty damn exciting. And I can’t help but feel a bit cool when driving a combi van.

But what if kids and adults alike were able to fulfill their sandpit dreams in a GIANT, LIFE SIZED SANDPIT FILLED WITH DIGGERS THAT YOU CAN RIDE?

Disneyland, eat my DIRT

The Digglerland USA theme park in New Jersey in the United States costs around $30 a day for entry and has taken the whole sandpit play thing next level. Honestly, I’m not sure who’s having more fun, the kids or the parents sitting behind them, fulfilling their dashed childhood hopes and dreams.

Seriously, what could go wrong?

What with all the horrific rollercoaster accidents I keep reading about, it seems like a completely sane and fabulous idea to put the operations of heavy machinery in the hands of small children, where it belongs.

The fun doesn’t stop with earthmovers

Check out this kid scaling scaffolding. Construction fantasies MADE! (And don’t worry, he’s strapped in. Nothing can go wrong…)

Why not do some burnouts in this eight-wheeler golf caddy on steroids?

And just in case, yes, it is life-size.
