In 1992 the NGA held an exhibition, The age of Angkor, curated by Dr Michael Brand, which included the display of loans from the National Museum of Cambodia. Since that time there has been considerable research into the Angkor period in Cambodia and new discoveries relating to the extensive Khmer civilisation. Lectures highlight these new discoveries and draw attention to the three remarkable Khmer sculptures on loan from the National Museum of Cambodia on display in the NGA.

The Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials (AICCM) is convening the Book, Paper and Photograph Symposium, which is being hosted by the NGA from 10-12 October.
Following the symposium, workshops are being held in various locations across Canberra. These workshops have been designed as professional development for conservators and, because of extremely limited place numbers, are only open to conference attendees and/or professional paper conservators.

The NGA has entered into an exciting partnership with the ANU Centre for European Studies which will hold a number of talks and lectures until 2017. With the NGA's extensive holdings of European art, there are many stories to be told through the collection.
The lectures will focus on exploring the many connections between Australian and European history and culture and the NGA's European art collection.
