Farida of Egypt
Queen Farida, born Safinaz Zulficar (5 September 1921 – 16 October 1988) (Arabic: صافيناز ذوالفقار) was the first wife of King Farouk. She was queen of Egypt for nearly eleven years.
Early life and education
Farida was born on 5 September 1921 to an Egyptian noble family in Gianaclis, Alexandria. Her father, judge Youssef Zulficar Pasha, was vice president of the Alexandria Mixed Court of Appeals. Her family was Egyptian Circassian. She had as a maternal grandfather Turkish prime minister Muhammad Said Pasha and was the niece of renowned artist Mahmoud Said. She attended elementary and primary education at Notre Dame de Sion in Alexandria, a school run by French nuns.
Her mother was Zainab Khanum, lady-in-waiting to Queen Nazli.
Marriage and issue
Farida and King Farouk first met on a royal trip to London in 1937. They were engaged in the summer of 1937. She married King Farouk on 20 January 1938 at Qubba Palace in Cairo, Egypt. She was renamed Farida in accordance with the tradition initiated by King Fuad I that members of the royal family should bear the same initials. She wore a wedding gown designed by The House of Worth in Paris. She had three daughters: HRH Princess Ferial, HRH Princess Fawzia and HRH Princess Fadia. After the birth of a third daughter, Farouk divorced her, on 19 November 1948. King Farouk cared for the first two daughters, while Farida cared for the youngest one after the divorce.

Princess Fawzia
Fawzia Fuad of Egypt (Arabic: الأميرة فوزية فؤاد, Persian: شاهدخت فوزیه فؤاد; 5 November 1921 – 2 July 2013) was an Egyptian princess who became Queen of Iran as the first wife of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Princess Fawzia was the daughter of Fuad I, the seventh son of Ismail the Magnificent. She descended from the Muhammad Ali Dynasty. She was also known as Fawzia Chirine (or Shirin), having married to Colonel Ismail Chirine, Egyptian diplomat of Circassian origin, in 1949. Princess Fawzia was the daughter of Fuad I, the seventh son of Ismail the Magnificent. She descended from the Muhammad Ali Dynasty. She was also known as Fawzia Chirine (or Shirin), having married to Colonel Ismail Chirine, Egyptian diplomat of Circassian origin, in 1949.

When HRH Princess Ferial Farouk was born in Montazah Palace, Alexandria , on November 17 1938, her arrival into the world was met with great jubilation. She was the first born of Egypt's last monarch, King Farouk and as such, nationwide events were organized to mark the occasion These included clothing distributed to thousands of poor, free breakfasts given to 10,000 poor people and the distribution of one Egyptian pound to each of the 1,700 families who also gave birth on the same day. At the time of her birth her father was a mere 18 years of age and his wife, Farida, a mere 17. Princess Ferial was later joined by two more sisters, Fawzia and Fadia, from her parents and a half brother Fuad from her father's second marriage. In 1952 when her father's throne was overturned, Princess Ferial moved with her family to exile in Italy. She was educated privately and at finishing school Grand Verger in Lutry, Switzerland. In 1966 her wedding to Swiss Jean-Pierre Perreten took place in Westminster, London. Together the couple had one daughter, Yasmine, in 1967, although the marriage later ended in divorce. Ferial, the last surviving daughter of Egypt's last monarch King Farouk, passed away on 29 November 2009 after a fight with cancer. In her interview with Ricardo Karam she talks for the first time ever about her family's exile and how they lived in the decades after the revolution. She also addresses the rumours and myths that surround her father's life. This exclusive interview with Ricardo Karam took place in Geneva, Switzerland.
